Some FA to watch

I just went through the roster cuts that were posted on the Red Zone. There are some names of young talent that were cut. I found names that could possibly help us around the lines. OLine OT Jamon Meredith= 5th round draft pick by the packers. When the 5th round was up I thought we should have got him and I was awfully upset that we didn't draft him. Instead we went with Colin Brown. Meredith is out of South Carolina. On nfl.com they said that he was one of the better sleepers picked up. C AQ Shipley. 7th rounder that some thought had 3rd ability. They say he is short and has short arms to be a center in the NFL. Shipley's case has been made before. Guard Trevor Canfield. Being a Cincinnati Bearcat fat this would be an awesome sign. When I was his name on roster cuts I thought we need him now! OT Alex Boone. Boone was cut by the 49ers. He would be an alright backup. In the bowl game vs. Texas he made the 13th pick Orakpo do nothing

Practice squads...

Jamon Meredith to the Packers, Shipley went back to the Steelers, Trevor Canfield to the Cards and Alex Boone back to the 49ers.

Makes you wonder why or how every one of these guys was passed over by the other 31 teams in the NFL.

Anyone have a list of players that are still out there?

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

Not a waiver player but one I'd like to see...

Would be Victor Hobson. He has an Arizona connection and from the two games I saw was all over the field making plays including two sacks against Denver. From what I gather he can play either ILB position and would be a good backup to Mays or DJ/Demorrio.

I've always been surprised by the fact that

boone hasn’t been able to put it together, I remember watching him at osu and thinking he was a dominant player and would be a perfect RT… obviously I was wrong but I’ve just seen the guy absoloutely swallow up people too many times to think he couldn’t contribute to an nfl team. It has to be some kind of attitude problem, that woul of course be magnified here in KC… ha

Some that I'd like to see

Matt Conner had some good ones listed here
http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2009/9/5/1017649/possible-waiver-claims-that-could

I like:

Justin Miller CB/KR…. Cut Colclough for this guy, upgrade special teams instantly.

Anthony Davis OT/G ? Not sure how good he is, but he’s 29 and has played a bit

Alex Smith/Ben Watson/Len Pope TE…

Dan Klecko FB/DT… versatile and huge, special teams guy as well

love...

klecko… kind of have a man crush on him… ha.. and I’d have to think that all three of the listed TE’s would be an upgrade over what we have. U pick up pope and run a two tight set in the red zone and run bowe and bradley out there who could cover two 6 2 recievers and a 6 7 and and a 6 8 TE…. Jump balls all day long..

Yeah, when's the shoe droppin' on the TEs?

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Alex Smith just signed with Philly

Pope is visiting the Giants

walterfootball.com

has a list of free agents, ranked by ability, that they keep updating. The top 10 or so TEs on that list have been signed and Pope or Smith are at the top of the remaining available TEs.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Sep 7, 2009 6:27 PM CDT up reply actions

that's interesting...

at offensive tackle they rank O’Callaghan at #19…. right between Levi Jones and Jon Runyan. Pashos was listed at #23, Anthony Davis is #39.

Mark Tauscher is the highest rated Tackle available, at #15.

Which says Pioli ain't all that far from optimum, given that he didn't make a splash in the draft.

Nice tidbit, stagdsp. Nice analysis.

And yeah, if Tauscher CAN play, I would like KC to be VERY aggressive about getting him.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Sep 7, 2009 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions

I think

Tauscher and Runyan are both healthy enough to play now.

I’ve been hearing about how veteran contracts are guaranteed until week 1, so a lot of moves might be made AFTER this weekend’s game.

Maybe they are comfortable going into Baltimore with Ndukwe, O’Callaghan and Albert being the only OT?

I’ve heard Alleman can play tackle in an emergency

I think you're right

I’m guessing we’ll see a bit of a flurry after this week’s game. Chiefs will pick up additional O-line help, perhaps a TE and I also wouldn’t be surprised if we see Thigpen or Croyle moved as well.

Jones

haha

Matt Jones, Jaguars. Age: 26.
Matt “Coke Zero” Jones is young and coming off his best season (65 receptions, 761 yards, 2 TDs). He’s a solid possession receiver. Unfortunately, Jones has trouble staying out of jail.

At this point, Chiefs don't, IMO, need another possession receiver,

as much as they need Bradley to step up and threaten something deep. Lawrence needs to step up, too. Jones is said to be fast, but for some reason that doesn’t seem to translate onto the field, when he mostly just looks like a big target.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Sep 7, 2009 9:07 PM CDT up reply actions

that's true

Bradley should be the big play guy
Bowe should make the redzone catches and acrobatic sideline catches
Engram the dump offs and 3rd down slants
Lawrence the WR screens and end arounds
Copper should…. well, he can…. shit I don’t know what he can do

by stagdsp on Sep 7, 2009 9:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Actually, I think we want Lawrence to threaten something deep, as well as Bradley.

And Bowe can be a deep threat just by winning the battle for contested, possibly underthrown, passes. But Bradley or Lawrence, somebody needs to threaten to get separation by out-runnin’ somebody else. That gimmicky stuff you’re talking about with Lawrence is all good, but I don’t want just baby-passes and end-arounds to be the extent of Lawrence’s repertoire, or he’s no better than Dante Hall in the regular offense. Defenses need to respect the danger of a Chief gettin’ behind ‘em, even if you’re known for slants and crossers.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

More OL

Dennis Norman, just cut from the Jags
their SBNation someone said:

I’m kind of sad to see Dennis go. He’s stepped in and done a pretty good job at multiple positions and he’s a couple years younger. I guess I always liked him because he’s smart.

Sounds like a Pioli guy to me.

Also, Langston Walker, we’re discussing in another post… I think he may be the best choice out there
