Why 4 QB's
Most believe they are keeping them till Cassel is back, but it has been said Cassel should be back by week 1 or week 2 at most. If that is the case it still doesn't make sense to keep 3 Qb's unless you have no faith in any of your back-ups, you are wasting a spot you could use for another position. Just like a lot of things Pioli/Haley have done we might never know why they have did this, It is just something that didn't make sense to me.
It has also been said they are keeping Thigpen to work out a trade. We do know they were talking about trading Thigpen but I never bought into the whole playing Thigpen with the 2nd string to show him off for other teams for a trade. First Haley/Pioli don't seem like the type to change what they are doing just for other teams, There is plenty of game tape to look at for Thigpen. You take a chance of the player getting hurt, and just like what happened the player could play really bad. Lets look at it from the other side, If they were just working him with the 2nd team just for other teams why would they play him for the whole 3 quarters after Cassel went down? If your starting QB went down wouldn't you want your 2nd string QB to go in and get reps with the first team just in case the starter is out for awhile?
I would like to see what AP thinks is the reasoning for keeping 4 QB's on the roster when the spots are so important when trying to build a team that has been so bad the last few years. My thoughts are Matt Cassel is more hurt than they are letting on so the think they might need all three or like Gretz said in one of his articles none of the QB's have clearly take that 2nd spot. So Haley might be taking more time to choose and maybe see who was let go from other teams during the cuts.

I think it's a combination of things
Cassel may or may not be out for week 1
no one distinguished themselves as #2
they are hoping to trade one of the backups if possible
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
I should have put all of the above on the poll
Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

They're keeping four because
They can’t decide what is better to keep between thiggy and croyle. Gutierrez is on this team in my opinion. They look at Croyle and say, well he’s got the intangibles but he can’t stay healthy, and we already have a weak line. They look at thigpen and say, well the kid can win games without an offensive line, but when we get one he won’t be able to throw.
So they’re still evaluating which of the 2 would be the best option down the road…in my opinion its Croyle. Thigpen would be good for this season, but not after that.
I agree about Guti
he’s in, IMO

or
they’re looking at bringing in someone who is sturdy AND can operate a normal offense.
Top candidates in my book-
Brian Brohm
Chase Patton
Chase Daniel
Patton and Daniel operating in a normal offense?
How would we know? Neither one ever has.

or they are all to valuable to cut in piolis mind
thigpen=trade value
croyle= played well
gutttirez = he likes him
Go Harrington !
Joey would be the most veteran QB on the team – just has had a good team to play with yet. Did well in preseason with the Saints – but they prefer Brunell for his playoff experience. If Joey is still available, I say bring him in for at least a work out, it couldn’t hurt.
agreed give him a workout see if he wants to win,
but we still need to have a line

Kansas City Patriots
I think they are keeping the other qbs because they are idiots. Thigpen showed us what he’s made of and did all we could have ask of him last year(not really) and why the hell do we keep signing patriots. I would rather have Benard Pollard than guiterez and thigpen. Why cut him, why not one of the many qb’s on the team. Cassel the future, and so was pollard. Bottom linew is there is no reason to get rid of a starter when you can cut one of the 4 qbs or snip off another lineman. Makes no sense to me.
Reality...
Lets face it, we’re not even “1” deep on the o-line yet. Why keep o-lineman that aren’t going to cut it? Untill we get a starting o-line, and it starts to gell, we’ll keep 4. Cut one only when you can upgrade elsewhere later.
None of the above
They kept four for now because number one is hurt and we have a major league D to play this week. After Cassel comes back things will probably change. If they don’t change then it is just insurance policy on QB because our O line will let lots of defenders through.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.
