Biggest surprise, to me, is O'Callaghan. Thought he played well enough to earn a spot. He'll land on another roster. My guess: Chiefs. -Mike Reiss' Twitter page

If he is on Pioli's radar...

We’re 3rd on the Waiver priority list? So if Detroit and St. Louis pass on him, we can sign him? St. Louis needs alot of help on the O-Line, hope they have their eyes on someone else

This Is A Guy The Chiefs Should Be Targeting

He’ll fit right in at RT. Is he great? No, but he’s adequate and adequate’s a lot better than what we’ve got there now.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West. Revision: We go 5-11 and finish behind Oakland.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
8. The Chiefs will have a bottom 10 defense this year.
9. RB will be a problem area this season on offense.

by UCrawford on Sep 6, 2009 10:49 AM CDT reply actions

Agreed

I don’t know that he’ll make it past StL, though.

Probably Not

Their line is in pretty rough shape too. Although they’ve actually got two decent tackles right now in Barron and Smith so they may target someone else instead.

This is a definate upgrade at RT and almost a guaranteed pickup if he clears Detroit and St. Louis. There has now been at least one Center, Guard, and Tackle that I hope the Chiefs look at in A.Q. Shipley, Billy Yates, and ryan O’Callaghan. I’m not super crazy about Yates but he could be worth a look.

Great!!

I till think Our O-line is sloppy. We need to move branden albert to right tackle or right guard and start focusing on a franchise Left Tackle. I never liked albert at the backside tackle. I was hopin Chiefs would get a lineman soon. We gotta get guys quick or else we will fall on our face

by Chiefs190 on Sep 6, 2009 11:23 AM CDT reply actions

why do

people not like albert at LT? He doesn’t give up sacks, and I would guess he is a better pass blocker than run blocker. Isn’t that like playing to his weaknesses instead of his strengths?

Wouldn’t want to do that this year. Right side of the line pressure, at least cassell can see it coming. If we move albert to the right side, then the sieve is now on the left/blind side. I see bad things happening to cassell if that was to happen.

by thalove on Sep 6, 2009 11:28 AM CDT up reply actions

agreed

Albert is the LT. Period.

He’s stronger in pass blocking, more of a finesse guy, i think.
RT is your roadplow run blocker…

there’s nothing to gain by moving Albert to the RT spot.
IF anything, they could move him back to RG after Waters retires, and draft a new LT.
But, again… it’s not broke, don’t try and fix it.

Just work on solving the RT spot first, then go from there

by stagdsp on Sep 6, 2009 11:34 AM CDT up reply actions

The Only Time I Thought Albert Should Move

Was when the Chiefs had a shot at a potentially better LT in the draft. Other than that, I don’t see any players out there who are going to do better on the left side than Albert did and I think he’s a fine LT with the potential to be even better.

by stram#1 on Sep 6, 2009 5:27 PM CDT up reply actions

I'll bite

I could see moving Albert to guard since he played that position in college, but what makes you think a move to RT would be good for the team?

Sure, right now Scott Pioli would be an upgrade over what we have at RT, that’s not a strong arguement to move the guy doing an acceptable job on the blind-side of the QB. B Richardson is a 2d team LT only on a team as talent deficent as the Chief’s are and he’s an abject failure at RT so far. The guy from Miami we traded for isn’t even projected as a backup on the left side. I’d rather not lose all the QB’s we start the season with to injury, so that’s why I’d keep Albert where he is; as thalove pointed out, at least from the right side, whoever is quarterbacking at the time can see it coming.

by Druful on Sep 6, 2009 11:47 AM CDT up reply actions

Richardson

he’s only a failure at backup LT, IMO.
I’ve watched him on the right side, I think he has a future there

Ndukwe and Alleman are RG/RT and C/RG depth at this point… though Ndukwe could start over Richardson if a new RT isn’t signed

yeah..

I’m just sayin that Albert would make a great guard or tackle on the right side. I mean he can play either Guard or tackle. I’ve watched quite of bit of film on him hes footwork is a bit sloppy on pass protection. He just seems like a natural run blocker due to his size. But it all depends on who we get in the next few days cause I KNOW scott pioli will work up a deal with O’Callaghan and maybe even Pashos.

ol- OT O’Callaghan from Pats
og/c recently cut from broncos or C Shipley
      OT Pashos
I think Cards cut a recent draft pick too, a guard
Give us 2 of these guys please oh please!
te- Alex Smith. and/or Leonard Pope. Is Putzier worth a shot?
qb-Brohm
safety- not sure who
I would be content with 2 OL that come in a nd play, a pass catching te and Pope, then a developing qb for Haley to experiment with. Feel like a vet safety can come in and plug in Pollard’s absence.

Its because it isnt.

Once a team puts in a waiver claim their priority is moved to the end of the line for that 24 hour period. Then everyday the waiver wire resets and the order is re-established. So Detroit grabbed a guy today and now the only team ahead of us until the reset tomorrow is STL.

The Chiefs need help for the O-line, and I don’t think that’s any secret. He did a decent job filling in for Kaczur in 2006 at RT. He missed all of last year with a shoulder injury, so that’s probably a concern, and he’s been primarily a backup so I don’t know how he’d do for an entire year as a start (he filled in for five or six games in ’06, I think). Still, I think he could help your team out on the right side.
