Kansas City Chiefs Release Bernard Pollard, 12 Others
The Kansas City Chiefs have just announced the final round of cuts to get down to the league mandated 53 man roster.
Biggest shocker? Bernard Pollard. Wow.
| Offense | Defense |
| TE Tom Crabtree | CB Jackie Bates |
| G Darryl Harris | DE Dion Gales |
| WR Taurus Johnson | DE Bobby Greenwood |
| WR Ashley Lelie | DT Derek Lokey |
| RB Javarris Williams | S Bernard Pollard |
| WR Rodney Wright | LB Zach Thomas |
| G Colin Brown (IR) | S Ricky Price |
After the jump, we take a look at the circumstances surrounding each of the cuts.
The following were released:
S Bernard Pollard Wow. There were trade rumors recently and apparently they had some legs. This is far and away the most shocking move by the Chiefs. Frankly, I don't understand this move. This leaves DaJuan Morgan, who was injured for much of last season as a rookie, and Mike Brown, who has been injured much of the last five years, as your strong safeties.
CB Jackie Bates This shouldn't be much of a surprise. The Chiefs decided to keep five cornerbacks and it was down to Bates or Ricardo Colclough. Colclough has been a return man in the past and provides a little more experience. TE Tom Crabree It's not surprising, either. This leaves three tight ends on the Chiefs roster (Sean Ryan, Brad Cottam and Jake O'Connell). Crabtree had a couple of nice plays in last week's game against the Rams but ultimately it came down to a numbers game. Remember, the Chiefs gave up a draft pick in a trade to get O'Connell. DE Dion Gales A little surprised here. Gales didn't necessarily separate himself but the Chiefs will be a little low on defensive ends. DE Bobby Greenwood See above. I thought about the best chance he had to make the team was due to the low number of offensive linemen. Harris' name was rarely mentioned and ultimately proved to be expendable. WR Taurus Johnson Chiefs had a lot of wide receivers and, for a position where they needed playmakers, he apparently couldn't cut it. It doesn't help that he didn't return kicks and/or punts as well. WR Ashley Lelie A little surprising considering he showed a little promise and is one of the few Chiefs receivers with some experience. He's a fast receiver and the Chiefs don't really have that right now. DT Derek Lokey He was playing nose tackle behind Tank Tyler and Ron Edwards. It was going to be tough to beat out one of those guys. Again, a numbers game. He couldn't beat out Jon McGraw and starter Jarrad Page. LB Zach Thomas Rumored to be injured and looking at retirement. Apparently he was healthy enough for the Chiefs to part ways with him without an injury settlement. RB Javarris Williams The Chiefs 7th round draft pick and the only draftee released. He's certainly eligible for the practice squad. WR Rodney Wright 29 year old player who hasn't shown much thus far. Placed on Injured Reserve When did he have an injury? Behind Pollard, this is the second most surprising move. There were no indications he was injured. He was the team's fifth round draft pick.

Pollard
Must have been a negative player all summer.
I can’t believe he had no trade value.

I just Hope
like hell he doesnt end up in the AFC West! He’ll be playing for blood.
COME ON!
I agree about the 4 QBs but that won’t last beyond a few weeks. Which Berand Pollard was you watchng for the last 2 years? The one that was out of position 90% of the time or the one that could not tackle 90% of the time.
The tackles he made were a product of bad DL and LB play. It hurts to be exposed to the truth but this move will have no impact on the Chiefs…unless Bernard changes the way he plays.

No
Nice job completely making up those numbers. It’s not Pollard’s fault the DL and LB play were terrible last season. This is a horrible mistake by the Chiefs. Even if they benched him, or just used him on special teams.
So Drew...
doesnt get paid? LMAO
"But what do I know, I'm AP's new assclown and I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"
Interesting.
I have a feeling cutting Pollard is a big mistake. I do believe another team is going to jump on him fast and he will have a BIG year….
Maybe he's just sorta dinged up and they know he ain't startin' and they want another crack at developing him.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Bullshit.
You can’t tell me we couldn’t get a single draft pick for Pollard. What a fucking waste.
And…do we have any freaking O Linemen left now?
I'm telling you EXACTLY that.
There were no takers, apparently.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Exactly
Why not cut a guy like Copper that no one is going to pick up anyway and try to work Pollard for a trade?

5th round rumors for thuggy
and nothing for BP? I doubt that…this seems like a HUGE mistake if you ask me.
DT Reigns you said it.....that's horseshit!!
How in the hell are they gonna tell us they couldn’t get a single thing for him anywhere? I am in disbelief here. How could this happen?? I don’t care he’s gone I just can’t believe we just cut him…they gotta have someone in mind … please God tell me they do!
Many changes
between now and midweek. Hoping that O-Line is on it’s way. Damn, I sure liked “Bonecrusher” Though.

I don’t know if I’ll get over this like TG. BP had lot of value, he was the leader of one of the best secondaries in the league.

Pioli is a dumbass…Sorry.
Did you see all of Training Camp? Did you see how Pollard reacted in Team meetings?
The players will do it the Haley / Pioli way. Pollard apparently wasn’t on the same page as the coach and GM.

He also was the mouthiest guy in camp… He also got in the DC face… You think that was going to fly with Haley?

Dont forget that if we pick someone up through waivers we have to drop someone right away… Cooper is not going to be on the roster long…

I agree...
this guys copy and paste is mindless. But, I have to agree that Pollard has never been a good player for us. He was a poor man’s Roy Williams and that is saying a lot considering Roy sucks. It was the right move and 31 other teams agree with my opinion considering he hasn’t been picked up.
You dont cut Pollard.
You trade him at worst case scenario. You even cut someone else to hold on to him to buy yourself time to trade him

Finally somebody that has been paying attention.
Everybody is blinded by those couple punt blocks his first year.
That's a cop out to try and make those of us arguing in his favor
seem like idiots.
We’ve got every right to pissed that we literally just gave away a 4 year starter in exchange for a 2nd year player that had ONE good game against the 3rd stringers of the only team to be worse than us last year not named Detriot and a guy that has had more injuries the last few years than Brodie.
Yeah, sounds like I’m just blinded by homerism!
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
It's not just homerism
The thing I think I see everyone missing here is something that Looney said early on today. It’s about who fits the 3-4 far more than it is the names. This is why a lot of the D line was cut and Pollard as well. Period.
There has been a bit of discussion on here about whether or not our backfield would be able to adjust to a 3-4 instead of the Tampon 2. This is a major answer to those debates we have had. Obviously most of the guys were able to make the transition. Pollard could not. They tried to move him and could not. So now he is gone. Doesn’t mean anyone here is a blind homer…just means Pollard didn’t fit the scheme. And yes, he will likely be playing elsewhere.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.
if he will be plaing elsewhere,,,
he has /some/ trade value. If that value wasn’t extracted, it’s a ding on Pioli, unless SP’s gonna grab critical talent, and fast, and needed the space.

because I'm sure they didn't TRY
same with Edwards and his staff. Uncoachable? Pollard is a hot head who tries to go for the big hit too often and often comes up short. He said himself during the beginning of this off season that him and Haley had had disagreements about how aggressive he wanted him to play. This really isn’t and should not be a big suprise
I don't want no Yo-Yos
The surprise, and this should give Pollard man-love victims pause, ...
… is that, when shopped, Pollard elicited zero trade interest in 31 other teams.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
unable to adjust to the 3-4
I think this is an example of a D-back who could play tampa 2 but did not adjust to a 3-4 scheme. Not to mention mouthy as hell.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.
Pollard
was miscast in the tampa 2. Pollard is a traditional hard-hitting, run supporting Strong Safety. BUT you are right partially because he was unable to adjust to the 3-4.
SS’s in the 3-4 are used somewhat like the Cover 2. Not quite the same, but somewhat identical. Because there are 4 LB’s in the 3-4, theres less need for support by a SSafety, so the SSafety tends to be in coverage more often. This is why I think Brown and Morgan fit the position better. Morgan is also a hard hitter but he showed hes decent in coverage. Sure, theres the arguement that he played good in only one game, but I’m sure hes been making plays when he has been practicing.
Morgan was on the verge of being cut because he was injured through so much of training camp. But he got healthy, got on the field and made an impact. He got into a game and made an impact. Hes only a 2nd year player, so I think he deserves to be looked at. Brown is a balanced guy (hitter, coverage) and Morgan will benefit him more than Pollard.
BUT…I dont think you cut Pollard in the process. Not quite yet. But, in all fairness, hes better fit for a traditional 4-3 defense as a SS. Something that would fit in Gunthers system (the Cover 2 that Gunther ran under Herm is NOT his system)
Pollard to the Lions. Out of the division, out of the conference. No problem to us.
Beautiful

Good points.
And the next team that hires him, he’ll be ALL eager to play STs for ‘em, to help secure employment, even if it would’ve been tough to get that to happen in KC, where I think he felt he was entitled to things he wasn’t.

I was under the impression this regime wanted football guys. You can’t tell me Pollard isn’t a player.
he can play football
Great in a 4-3 tampa 2 but not a guy who fit in a 3-4. We were warned there would be surprises because of guys not making the switch well. He can and will play but not here…and apparently other teams weren’t too keen on him either…except for free.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.
Your Wrong...
Clancies system calls for safeties to blitz and play up close. They also play zone too. t6his had nothing to do with this play. He had the most tackles cuz we sucked and he was the last line of “defense” ..I Don’t know why everyones upset about this Pioli LOVES draft picks so OBVIOUSLY nobody wanted to trade for him….and I’m gonna keep saying this hes NOT A GOOD SAFETY…should’ve tried him out as a pass rushing LB in the 3-4 I thought he’d do better there…oh well…we bitch when Herm just gave him the job…we bitch cuz he can’t cover…and now we’re bitching cuz we just cut em? OH WELL
Cover 2
Doesn’t that give him alot of opportunity last season to ring up tackles?

I noticed I wasn't cringing any more when I saw #47 on the field.
Saw some good stuff from him on the regular D – better than just a guy counting on STs to guarantee him a job, no matter how shitty he was in regular D, which was what he looked like to me in ’08.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
just goes to show
you can NEVER expect to be right with predictting hte way this team will fluctuate. i hope we have some stuff cooking in the oven..thats all im sayin

hard to agree
it was “smart” to give up pollard for anything less than a bag of footballs
well it seems we did try to trade him
from the rumors we read …no trade=cut ….

you cant ignore the fact
that its months away from the trade deadline and we weren’t forced to cut him.
No one gave anything for him
because we tried move him days before he’d be floating free on the market for anyone to sign.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
Bouzi
How do you know he was a locker room distraction? Just because others are saying he is? If LJ isnt a cancer in the locker room anymore, idk how pollard could be…
You may be cut next Thorman!:)
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
Pioli and Brady
Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I wonder as close as Brady and Pioli are if he was dead set against getting rid of Pollard after losing his star Quarterback Last year and still had the bad taste left in his mouth.. Either wasy this was a mistake.
that makes no sesne, Pollard will still end up one someone's roster
If that was the case Pioli would keep Pollard on the bench and not cut him so he can go somewhere else and take out Cassel
2009-10 Predictions:
1. Chiefs will win ATLEAST 6 games, which is a big improvement over 6 wins in 2 seasons
2. Succop will bring stability to the K position for the first time in years
3. Chiefs D will atleast double the number of sacks form last season
4. Cassel will be a top 15 QB
5. Todd Haley won't make a poster and jump around holding it up welcoming the Chiefs players to summer camp, I mean TRAINING camp
MCBRIDE IS STILL HERE I JUST FORGOT
GREAT! Pollard could be a hell of a better option at linebacker than fucking mcbride. we shouldve atleast tried bernard there. what the fuck.
Pollard's tackling skills (or lack thereof)
Always tries to go for the big hit and whiffs completely sometimes
2009-10 Predictions:
1. Chiefs will win ATLEAST 6 games, which is a big improvement over 6 wins in 2 seasons
2. Succop will bring stability to the K position for the first time in years
3. Chiefs D will atleast double the number of sacks form last season
4. Cassel will be a top 15 QB

one of each

But yea a Qb will go eventrually.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Pollard Had a Blow up in the Face of the Defensive Cord not even a couple of weeks ago!!! What do you Expect???? Pioli and Haley wont put up with crap like that no matter who you are!! Pollard wasnt good in coverage either sloppy tackler..
hey im fine if morgan comes in and takes over
I just feel pollard had to net a 6 or 7
problem is
there’s NO FUCKING DEPTH now because Morgan may as well be a rook considering his experience last year and Brown is going to be injured before week 8.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
4 safties, that is depth
The quality of the depth is the great unknown, but they are keeping an average number of safties
read my explanation
I don’t care what the number is, if half of that depth is inexperienced and the other half is always injured, what kind of depth does that provide?

Yeah because
Robots following a rookie head coach that doesn’t know what he’s doing yet is much better than passionate, hard working players.
http://ajax-dj.mybrute.com
Good point.
I don’t think it’s the blowup, per se. I think the blowup may’ve been a symptom of the negative undercurrent.
Remember the Boldin blowup. If the player’s passionate about winning football, I think he can look Haley in the eye and disagree with him, and remain in his good graces. My sense was that the blowup was more about Pollard and less about winning football.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Completely agree. Whatever Pollard said or did, he cut his own throat and new......
management is not putting up with that crap.
The Report
I seen said after he had the yelling match, he pleaded with Haley, and Haley waived him off. Sounds more like Pollard may have wanted it HIS way rather than something that could have been worked out with the coach. Sounds like Haley agreed with Pender. Hard to say. Its all speculation. It’s not the end of this team or the world.

This isn't a fantasy league, guys
Detroit doesn’t drop to the bottom of the waiver queue after they claim someone. Waivers go by record. As such, Detroit will always have the first opportunity to claim a player.
If we put in a waiver claim on 10 guys and Detroit claims the same 10 guys, the Lions are going to get them.
And we claimed Guiterrez from the Patriots, remember? If it worked like you’re suggesting, we’d be right down near the bottom anyway.
Now THAT's devious!!!
But it makes sense that maybe he’s gearing-up for a guy that’s in his sights.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
I don't think this is the last of the cuts
We ARE going to sign a few players and someone else will have to go. Remember this is just the beginning of things yet to come. We are not at the RIGHT 53 yet. Hold on to your hats, it’s going to be a dark and bumpy ride.

is it possible
maybe 24 hours from now we will all know why these cuts were made and be VERY happy about it? because thats what im hoping. Scott Pioli needs to have a few tricks up his sleeve i mean this is just way too dubious for me.
Both you guys please settle down.
We can disagree about Pollard without disparaging one another.
I’m on Aejfan’s side on the Pollard issue, just based on what I see on the field. Other good fans see things differently than me all the time, even though I always – I mean ALWAYS – come out on top (except for a few thousand incidents that were marred by bad weather).
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Ridiculous
Gutierrez would have cleared waivers and could have been placed on the practice squad. One good preseason game by Morgan and suddenly he’s kept over a guy who has 4 years of starting experience and is only 24 years old? What about every other game Morgan’s ever played and been terrible?
Horrible move. I don’t like it whatsoever.
No way Gut clears waivers
Josh McDaniels would have started fondling himself as soon as he saw that cut

Which is probably the thing that confuses me the most
We tried shipping Morgan. We tried to ship Pollard. Morgan has ONE good game (don’t get me wrong, I like the kid a lot) and suddenly a 2nd year kid with one solid preseason4 game under his belt and a perennially-injured over the hill import are more valuable than a 4 year starter who’s only 24 and one of the most passionate leaders on the defense gets cut for absolutely NO RETURN?
Makes no sense with the info we’ve got.

Its too bad no one else has cut a "Pollard" yet in the form of a RT or KR/PR
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Bottom Line
Pioli’s job is on the line, our entertainment is on the line. He sees a lot of stuff that we don’t see. We bring in the best GM in the biz and the second he makes a controversial decision he is suddenly a hack? He wants locker room chemistry…why waste that for an average safety? This guy has been doing this for years and we’re supposed to trust him to build a winner for us.
I dont mind that he's gone.
But theres absolutely no way this guy has zero trade value. Thats the only thing that I question.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
I agree with you, but still think we can question
There is no track record here and brilliant men have done stupid things before. See Bellicheck’s Cleveland stint. I scratch my head on this one. Not because we cut him, but because we let him go for free.
I can’t believe that there wasn’t a 7th rounder out there at least, but Pioli does wheel and deal with the best so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt
So you think Pioli got offered a pick
and decided he’d just rather cut the guy?
We got no offers for him. Lets try to deal with teh reality that the rest of the league didn’t want him enough to give us a pick.

I keep hearing that we had limited time
BUT…based on everything else our new management does, we find out, days after the fact exactly how long it has been brewing. Who knows. Pollard may have been out there a bit. BUT….with his name being obviously WELL connected with the injury of one of the leagues BEST QB’s, I find it hard to swallow that someone did NOT jump on Bernard if given the chance. Maybe the “professional” evaluaters of football talent did not see anything in him to warrant any kind of a transaction. Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I wonder how much the threat of an uncapped year affected this
Pollard would get locked up for 2 more years if next year goes uncapped and his salary would escalate. I wonder if there were no trade takers because of it.
I wander if were still gonna get a fictional depth chart....
It would be nice to see were people are actually gonna play. But I’m sure they’ll hide that so no one can know who to practice for.

Ok settle down~ its ok, POLLARD is gone~ HE WAS A YO YO PLAYER~ negative, and to be on this team you must be a TEAM PLAYER, not a ME PLAYER!

if you think Pollard wasn’t a team player.
Was he
not the only one that took offense against a coach? Did he not practice hard one day and not the next ( from what I read, he didnt! ) This is a yo yo player~ one that gives it his all one day ( when he sees fit ) and doesnt the other~ Coach went on record way before his yelling at a coach, and said that exact thing
NO YO YO PLAYERS~ yes POLLARD was a yo yo player, not in skill but in giving to the TEAM what coach wanted DAY IN AND DAY OUT!
sorry, but i am NOT out of my mind, and im not going to yo yo with you on the subject!
POLLARD is and was a yo yo player in the chiefs mindset~ if he wasnt, he

They should have gotten rid of Thigpen.I can pass the ball better than he can, How do you underthrow a 4yd pass? They need to trade him for a good right tackle, if hes worth that much.
is why we drafted one on the third
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
You just have to love the fact that KC cut a starting saftey and there's nothing on ESPN
While the Bills cut their #3 RB and it hit the wire in 10 minutes.
I see your point, but I remember last spring kinda scratchin' my head at all the Pollard man-love
here and in mainstream articles. I think this might be a lot of “I want to believe” with regard to Pollard.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
I had to preface every other opinion with "I respect the opinions of the majority who really like this guy, but...
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
I remember
earlier this off-season there was a national media article bashing our secondary & there were a lot on here who really criticized them for it & I wondered then what I was missing. I always thought that some of us held Pollard in much higher esteem than what the rest of the NFL did.
I am highly unimpressed with the moves to cut Pollard and Lelie.
Pioli/Haley better find someone worth replacing Pollard—right now, I don’t think we have that player. I feel they created another hole.
Lelie proved himself more than Copper. Cutting Pollard or Lelie over Thigpen is just assinine to me.
That player better be = or better than pollard or were in trouble. Just because morgan
made 1 good catch doesnt make him god.
No, it doesn't.
But Morgan prob’ly has better coverage skills. With the front 7 playin’ stout, I want more coverage skills and anticipation from safety, and not just a durable guy who will reduce the level of embarrassment on a bad team. I want somebody to stick a fork in the opposition on a GOOD team. A real “resistance is futile” kind of guy.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
what happens if morgan does pan out
i can use the same argument you used. just beacuse he has one good game doesn’t mean that he’s not going to have any more.
Haha this is funny....

“Patriots waived OT Ryan O’Callaghan and S/WR Ray Ventrone.
O’Callaghan didn’t have a bad camp, but second-round pick Sebastian Vollmer passed him to be New England’s No. 3 offensive tackle. O’Callaghan could probably start for the Chiefs right away. Ventrone was a special teamer."

totally
its funny that Rhodes and Thomas were bigger cuts to NFLN than a safety in his prime with nice stats….
I know, he took bad angles, ok, ill move on, but still, hes a nice waiver pick up
Bernards Missed Tackles in Seattle Game
Warpaint Illustrated has a nice article posted about why Pollard got demoted to second string do to missed tackles (5) in the Seahawks game.
Bernard missed tackles in every game
He either laid a dude out or bounced off and asked for an autograph as they ran past
Yeah, because I guess you would rather see Thigpen or Guit throw incompletion or picks as a third QB…

For a week to get the play book...no never mind. We know that

might as well
unless they see a future for thig development-wise, he’s pretty much played himself outta trade value this preseason.
Wondering is the reaction to a safety that misses tackles going to be the same as the quarterback who pisses down hi leg and can't throw worth a sh*&
Dude, until that O-Line gets fixed, 4 QBs may not be eNOUGH!!!
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Today's cuts - a summary
- CB Jackie Bates – NO SURPRISE
- TE Tom Crabree – NO SURPRISE
- DE Dion Gales – NO SURPRISE
- DE Bobby Greenwood – NO SURPRISE
- G Darryl Harris – NO SURPRISE
- WR Taurus Johnson – NO SURPRISE – though I was rootin’ for ’im. Still might make PS.
- WR Ashley Lelie – a surprise. Probably mentality and learning curve make him a liability?
- DT Derek Lokey – NO SURPRISE
- S Bernard Pollard – NO SURPRISE – although I hoped there’d be some trade value.
- S Ricky Price – NO SURPRISE
- LB Zach Thomas – NO SURPRISE – but I was holding out hope that they were just trying to keep him healthy.
- RB Javarris Williams – NO SURPRISE – wasn’t gettin’ touches.
- WR Rodney Wright – NO SURPRISE
Placed on Injured Reserve
- G Colin Brown – As others have said, this is probably to hide a not-yet-ready-for-primetime player of the future. They prob’ly would’ve kept him if they weren’t so desperate to get as many looks at as many linemen as possible.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
All in all, some of the most heated arguing I've done, lately,
has borne fruit. Gales gone. Pollard gone. McBride and Studebaker making it (so far). Lelie was about the only surprise. If they think he’s not good enough, MAYbe these professional talent evaluators are saying they have something significantly better, which is cool with me.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
+1
No reported injury on Brown and all of the sudden he’s on IR not even PuP. Thats fishy.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Neither one makes a difference
Pollard has been overrated since he was drafted. Lelie just didn’t get it I guess I wanted him so suceed but didn’t happen. Really this makes us a better TEAM.
As in a WHOLE UNIT
in reality
with the 53 we have as of this minute…we are fighting for 3rd in the AFC West…6 wins would be a stretch…
Now i know there will be some moves before opening dat and this roster will look much different…but as of now…our team is horrible…sadly
What did you expect? Going from 2-14 to the Superbowl in a year?
That’s totally unrealistic. Pioli isn’t going to mortgage the future. He is building a 53 man team that is built to win in January. You can’t get that done in one season. And there is no doubt this team is better than last year’s.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
I'm shocked!
I thought we were Super Bowl contenders for the last 5 years.
Sackoff (McIntosh,Goff) like Brangelina.
Rosenhaus still saying Thomas wants to play even after the release.
But he probably has to to even apply for an injury grievance.

at least were not a packers fan
who cut their round 2 pick from last year and placed harrell (1st round) on the IR in three out of three seasons
Mike Brown
will not play a full season. Our house is a Chiefs/Bears house and I have been watching him for years. He is an exciting player for sure. He will miss games. This is not an endorsement for Pollard.
Yup
If they think Morgan can play like he did in the preseason every game that Brown misses then they are in for a surprise….
Whoa
“This is like those people at the town hall mettings argueing on behalf of insurance companies,”
I was agreeing with you until you started the crap about politics.
Anyone else just catch the commercial on NFL Network for Red Zone with Pollard getting burned?
by jbj8609 on Sep 5, 2009 7:54 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Did they take that from any game he played ever?
Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.
Is this a possibility with the waivers....
that IF he makes it past detroit and st louis we can resign him….like what haley did to bowe, just EXTREME?
That be an even more colossal waste
of time and effort than cutting him in the first place.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
Also....
At least this makes the JA trade better value to us in the end…keeping morgan, a pick from that trade.
You know...
Lately, the way we have performed in preseason, I really don’t see the chiefs doing well, not even average. Honestly things have worried me, including not scoring any TDs against 1st team defenses. I wouldn’t be suprised to see us picking top 5 again.
Hey good thing there is Mizzou football.

In Pioli We Trust! Right?
REALLY F'ING PISSED AT THIS!
Did anyone watch the games last year????
Pollard was the most exciting player we had on defense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He’s one of the hardest hitters I’ve seen since Steve Atwater!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND WE CUT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????
This makes no sense! Complete stupidity!
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????
Missed the most tackles
What part of “I’m not a yo-yo coach and I don’t want yo-yo players” did you miss?
Negative Ghost Rider the pattern is full...
Bad Move
Pollard isn’t a cocky player he’s an intense guy that isn’t afraid of anyone including the head coach, Haley is just to head strong and couldn’t handle him. It’s funny reading everyones comments about Pollard not being able to tackle, he was hands down the best tackler on the team, if you really want to see someone who can’t tackle watch film of how many tackles Page missed over the last 2 seasons. The sad part is the Chiefs not only get nothing in return for Pollard but they also lose one of the only players who actually played with some passion and heart over the last few shitty seasons. Think about it, how many guys have the Chiefs had on defense in the last 2 or 3 years that flew around hitting people like Pollard? I can only think of one Jared Allen, and sure he was out of position alot but he made plays and gave the fans something to cheer about. If Derrick Johnson played with the passion Pollard did he’d be playing in Pro Bowls. Well at least they still have Flowers and Carr in the secondary…………
Come on everyone, Pollard was the best of the worst (as Chef Ramsey would say). Obviously they see something in morgan that pollard didn’t have. To be honest pollard was basically playing a deep linebacker. He hits hard but how many recievers got open behind him, it seemd he forgot he was the LAST LINE OF DEFENSE. Don’t get me wrong I’m a bit shocked, but I prepared myself for this as soon as I heard he was on the trading block. I just went through the list of most notable cuts and there are a couple safeties we could look at, as for keeping four qb’s, well I think we’re gunna try to showcase one of them for a pick. In my opinion about Lelie though, that is kind of dissapointing. I thought we needed help at reciever since Darling went down on the IR. Lelie caught basically everything thrown his way over the preseason so what gives!? he’s fast and he caught the football!! WHAT DO YOU WANT TODD HALEY!!!?? WHAT THE HECK DO YOU WANT!!!???
I'm not pissed that we kept Morgan
I’m pissed that we A) gave Pollard up for nothing, and B) kept Mike “I need an exo-skeleton” Brown instead of Pollard.
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
HAHAHA
Some of you are still so attached to “hype” rather than “performance”.
Why are you mad that Pollard is gone? Because he hit someone really hard once and the CBS announcers told you that he was the “Bonecrusher” (oooooooohh)??? And because Herm told you he was good for 2 years? (Just like the rest of the team was gonna be good (“Get over it”))……. Pollard gave up WAY more big plays than he stopped. It is clear that this organization doesn’t give a **** about hype. I absolutely love it. Carl Peterson would have kept Pollard based on the presumption that he was “The Bonecrusher” and a shut down safety that everyone said “He could have been”….Just like Peterson signed Ty Law based on what he did 8 years earlier in his career…. clearly when he was past his prime. Listen. Pollard was a safety on a team that ACCIDENTALLY made the playoffs once, and went 6-26 for 2 seasons after. I don’t get why everyone is so attached to BAD players. I don’t care if he hits hard. He never had a concept of coverage, ALWAYS got made a fool of on play action, and frankly did nothing for a defense that finished in the basement of the league. FORGET ABOUT HIM. CLEARLY NOBODY IN THE NFL CARES ABOUT HIM…. or he would have had trade value.
almost 100 tackles is bad play,
Your so stupid, He was 3rd in the league in tacklesfor safeties last year. This just goes to show Todd Haley isnt a good coach. He let his personal feeling or Clancies get in the way of The Right 53. You cant be honestly happy that our starting safeties are going to be Page who is remarkably worse then Pollard, and Mike brown who gets injured every year. I dont care how much you dont like a guy, You dont just release him. I know one thing Im not buying any tickets to the Chiefs 3-13 season……By the way hell be on another team in a few days, probably the lions. Because they are 1st in the waiver order.
how do you know he's the right 53?
are you the coach? just because you like the guy doesn’t mean he was the right fit for the team.
its so funny because you guys have been sucking this regimes dick for 6 mths. I hoe you feel like you just got raped in an ally behing an IHOP
Dude that is way out of bounds
Hey they are not going to sit back, and be content with bs like the previous regime. There will be moves to make this team better.
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
Why are you jocking their nuts like this dude. What makes you7 think their proven. Pioli is from the belcheck tree and none of them were succesful. This is a dumb move to cut a guy who is in the top 10 safties in the league, Atleast keep him til the end of the year when his contract exspires then dont resign him if you dont want him. This was all because of the argue, ment. Haley put his emotions and pride in front of putting toegteher a talented football team. You keep on riding their nuts dude, Im not buying any tickets this year though. They got 1700 bucks out of me last year, They wont get a dime this year. Thanks cott oh thanks clark, your clueless dude. Hey maybe they will get on here and read your qoute man. This was a bad move for the Chiefs, exspecially when theier still trying to sell out the stadium.
