Chiefs to pick up a cut QB

Inside scoop says the Chiefs will pick up a released QB from another team in the next few days. Prediction... Thigpen traded for 5th rounder; Guttierez to practice squad; Croyle to compete with new pick up for backup to Cassell; Croyle to start vs. Ravens. Take these to the bank!

Also, Savage and Battle will make the team with the absence of Smith. Lawrence and Savage will return kicks. The Chiefs are on the right track, however next Sunday against the Ravens could get ugly. Any chance they have is with the defense pulling a couple fo turnovers.

That doesnt work.

Gut is no longer eligible for the practice squad. He’s been active on an NFL roster for 6 games making him inelgible. Also long term he’s probably better then the other two guys we have as far as potential is concerned.

BS rumor

We aren’t getting anything for Thigpen, and Gut can’t be a practice squad guy. Also what QB in the league that’s going to be cut (besides maybe Jackson from Minnesota) could possibly help us?

Jackson... Now that's interesting.

He’s pretty damn good IMO. I doubt that’s happening though.

says jeff garcia might get cut. which i find pretty unlikely. but he’s still better than our backups if he does get cut.

Jeff Garcia is a very good QB...

I live in Florida…he’s a really solid QB….just a little old…but who isn’t? Seriously WHO?? WHHOOOOOOOOO?? Answer me!

I'll take backup NFL Quarter Backs with hot wives for 800$ please Alex....

Brodie Croyle, Matt Cassel, and this newly signed third string, former Eagle QB, form the holy trinity of hot wives?

How doesn't he?

traditional pocket QB is what Haley’s offense is all about, I doubt Jackson will be released anyways.

Jackson is not a traditional pocket QB!

If Haley liked Jackson, he would also like Thigpen; And that is not the case!

by Goldzone on Sep 4, 2009 4:30 PM CDT reply actions

Jackson isn't a scrambling QB!

He is a pocket QB, he only has 95 rushing attempts with the team in 3 years! Thats compare to his 524 passing attempts in the same time period, once again he IS a traditional style QB. Where is your logic on this?

Also I do agree Feely could have a chance at a backup QB spot with us

by Shawn on Sep 4, 2009 4:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Jackson plays in Chilly's system

His comfort zone is passing outside of the pocket. Minnesota has discouraged that with him, and that is why his running totals are down. Haley wants another type such as Warner. Do any of you think Jackson is anything like Warner? Case rested.

by Goldzone on Sep 4, 2009 4:47 PM CDT reply actions

There is no merit to your argument

I have the unfortunate luxury to see Jackson play every sunday being that I live near Minnesota and Jackson is not like Warner because he isn’t as good as Warner, but is a genuine pocket QB. I would much rather have Jackson on this team than Feely. Neither of which in my mind will happen.

by Shawn on Sep 4, 2009 4:50 PM CDT reply actions

No argument. Simply stating facts!

Jackson likes to throw on the run and Haley is against any of that improvisation! Hence the demoting of Thigpen. It’s real simple. He alos doesn’t want to latch onto players that have not had success!

by Goldzone on Sep 4, 2009 4:54 PM CDT reply actions

So A.J. Feeley

who has a 55.9 percent completion percentage for his career is successful? Not to mention he is an interception machine.

by Shawn on Sep 4, 2009 5:00 PM CDT up reply actions

I do agree that Feeley could be a servicable backup and even a great 3rd QB

I also still stand that Jackson would be a better option if available, even in our system.

Keep in mind; Feeley has had some success and some wins

That is really the key here. A spot starter that can possibly pull out a win if needed. I don’t believe anyone is confident that Croyle can do that?

by Goldzone on Sep 4, 2009 5:05 PM CDT reply actions

If thats all we're looking for then bring back Huard.

Hes a champ coming off the bench. Actually I really wouldnt be against that pick up at all.

Trade Thigpen and Croyle for some oreos and some milk to dunk them in.

Staying on your feet has little to do with the QB.

Especially since its already been established that Haley isnt interested in mobile QBs.

"Success is never ending, failure is never final."

by GenericBrand on Sep 4, 2009 5:34 PM CDT up reply actions

Should keep Gutierrez

Haley talks about situation football. Look at the situations this guy was placed in. I would argue he played them exactly how Matt Cassel would have.

If you are starting a game, or even the 2nd half, that’s one thing. But, this guy is put in with less than a quarter left and expected to wrestle victory from the jaws of defeat.

When you are put in, down 8 with minutes on the clock, you have to be a gun slinger. You attempt low percentage passes that you wouldn’t normally attempt because you’re trying to do anything to win, not the norm.

Not to mention, look at what he had to work with for receivers, he’d never been given the benefit of throwing to the starters in a game situation. He’s a bargain, and he has balls to sit there in the pocket and take it, just like Cassel, that’s got to be better than the other two options.

by jcru on Sep 4, 2009 6:04 PM CDT reply actions

He would have to have live in-season game action to be properly evaluated

I am in favor of him sticking around as well. Personally, I like him over Croyle, he’s a lot more durable and it seems brighter! But it’s not gonna happen at this time. Croyle will start at Baltimore. Let’s hope he does well!

by Goldzone on Sep 4, 2009 6:20 PM CDT up reply actions

You don't think Cassel will be ready for Baltimore?

I think he’ll be playing. He won’t be 100% but I’d be shocked if Matt doesn’t play.

by jcru on Sep 4, 2009 6:26 PM CDT up reply actions

If he's not 100%, he won't play against that defense!

Remember, Haley knows that this is going to take a long time to clean up Herm’s mess, so he’s not going to blow up the franchise QB in game one against a stout defense, unless he’s sure it won’t aggravate the injury! It’s too soon!

by Goldzone on Sep 4, 2009 6:35 PM CDT up reply actions

MCL sprain isn't that bad of an injury.

I’ve had that same injury, same leg, same tendon. Like I said, I’d be really shocked if he wasn’t out there next weekend.

by jcru on Sep 4, 2009 6:39 PM CDT up reply actions

I'd be equally shocked if he does play!

A different opponent would make the difference.

BTW, this is the NFL

Matt’s a professional, it doesn’t matter who the opponent is.

If you can play against the #32 ranked Defense, you can play against the #1 ranked Defense (or #2 in this case).

I’m positive Haley doesn’t think like your theory there, any head coach worth his job wouldn’t.

by jcru on Sep 4, 2009 6:48 PM CDT up reply actions

?? Serious??

With all due respect to your take, Haley is not going to jeopardize his whole coaching career over his first game! Especially since they will be heavy underdogs! A healthier Cassel in week two against the Raiders at home makes too much sense! I’m not saying he should’nt play if he’s 100%, but if not ,you simply can’t put the whole season on the line in game one! Especially with the Chiefs back up QB situation. Haley is worth his job, and that’s why he would’nt do it. (By the way, your opponent and how you game plan for them means everything week to week. #2 ranked defenses do make a difference in how you game plan. If not anyone could be a head coach!).

by Goldzone on Sep 4, 2009 6:56 PM CDT up reply actions

Umm the Chiefs D ended Tom Brady's season

It can happen anywhere at any time. The opponent won’t factor into the decision at all. If he’s healthy…he plays, period.

This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

by KCSatchmo on Sep 4, 2009 7:05 PM CDT up reply actions

If he's a 100% he plays! If he's not, he doesn't, period!

And do a poll of head coaches, the opponents ALWAYS factor into coaches decisions on players. As well as envirornment, weather, etc,, Come on guys, this isn’t that tough! I’m with you in saying I’d like to see him healthy and play, but if not, so be it!
