Did Todd Haley bet on the Eagles to win or what?
First off I am a die hard Chiefs Fan. I love the Chiefs with all that I am, I scour the internet countless hours. I listen to sports radio non stop, I read jason Whitlock's sports mumbo jumbo. If I had the money I would go to every game. I buy the gear, I drink the Kool-Aid and I will never ever get off the wagon. Never ever ever.
I make the trek up to River Falls Wisconsin to get a glimpse of my favorite team regardless of the sport. I sometimes ignore my job, wife and kids, to find out more about the Chiefs. I love the Kansas City Chiefs and still firmly believe that the Chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl. I am delusional, I think Tyler Thigpen is the second coming of Rich Gannon. I even started LJ on my Fantasy Team even though I knew he was going to have a horrible game.
I am the epitome of a Chiefs homer. But I have to ask?
Is Todd Haley the Pete Rose of the NFL?

via api.ning.com
How else can you explain the game on Sunday?
There is no crying in baseball Tom Hanks. That is great rule, a cardinal rule, but in the NFL, the is a rule much more sacred.
That rule is you don't give up in the second half, regardless of the score, risk of injury or embarrassment. You play to win the game Herm Edwards.
via media.collegepublisher.com
Todd Haley did not even attempt to even make it look like he was trying to win the game. Not one fan will ever convince me that the Todd Haley Kansas City Chiefs were trying to win that game in Philly in the second half.
When you are down by 20 points in the second half. You do not run HB dive plays on nearly every play, that doesn't spell winning to me, or trying to create a winning atmosphere. That's a team that is teaching itself how to give up, instead of giving every ounce of blood, sweat and tears on every play until the last whistle.
For a coach that Coordinated a dynamic offense last year. One in which a QB named Kurt Warner had these numbers:
16 g/ cmp 401/ att 598/ cmp% 67.1/ yards 4583/ TDS 30
It does not make any sense to why they laid down, this isn't a prize fight, you do not take a dive in the NFL. I am mad at Todd Haley, you wait your entire life to be a Head Football Coach in the NFL and then you bow out in the second half. That is absolutely absurd, his father better being laying into him right now , I know Bill Parcells would not approve.
You do not give up in football.
It was Todd Haley's third NFL game as head coach and he quits. Are you freakin' kiddin me. You did what? You quit in the NFL? Really? Really? You are professional that makes millions and you give up. F that!!!!!!!!
Why, oh god why would you quit in the second half? Tell me Todd Haley why?
Being the coach of our beloved Kansas City Chiefs is a priveledge. I would literally cut off both my arms and legs to be in Todd Haley's shoes(irony). If I could have any job in the world. My top four would be Chiefs player, coach, GM, or owner, those our my dreams.
Todd Haley has that priveledge and he quits in the second half instead of adjusting the game plan. If you are going to quit anyway atleast go out guns blazing. I would have rather seen Cassel get injured, or throw 10 picks. Trying to win the game, versus that big worthless ball of crap we all witnessed on Sunday.
This is a good young football team and they deserve better, this team can and will go to the Super Bowl but Todd Haley has to get a pair and get his head out of his ass. I lost a lot of respect for Todd Haley Sunday, before which I thought he had a perfect approach during the offseason. I thought he was a team first, win at all costs, ball to the walls guy. I still thnk that he is, but something happened Sunday, he gave up. Which is completely out of character for him, according to everything we have seen up until this point.
Which leads me to the only logical conclusion I could come up with. That Todd Haley bet all the money he has on the Eagles to win, how else can you explain giving up like that? After everything Todd Haley has done up to this point, it doesn't make any sense to me. Please Joel, Chris, Steve, Ucrawford someone please explain why this happened if it wasn't cheating.
Don't give me that they were out of the game BS, or they were protecting Cassel from injury crap. This is the NFL regular season, not preseason, not practice. You go balls to the wall in the NFL , you play to win the game in NFL. You don't ever ever lay down in the NFL period. You have a chance to win every game until the last snap in the NFL.
Don't give me that they were trying not to get embarassed BS either. Nothing could be more embarassing then quiting in front of millions of viewers when you are atheletes and coaches that make millions. I feel sorry for my beloved Chiefs players that have to live with this loss and that BS play calling for the rest of thier lives.
That said, I love the Chiefs, they are my team forever and ever, amen. They are going to win the Super Bowl even with Todd Haley, now that he won all that money off of that game. He can finally get back to focusing on winning. Oh and please for the love of god, throw the ball down field, do some trick plays with Thigpen, run the option. Do some pitch outs to Larry or more screens to Savage or Charles. Sign Lelie again so we have a deep threat and air it out on Sunday. However, Todd Haley Whatever you do, don't ever give up in the second half again. Or we will be waiting out side of your big ass house with pitchforks and torches.

I know its not saying a lot, as I dont like that we gave up but I gotta think a 30’s-7 loss is a lot better than if the Eagles hung 60 on us (and they very well could have and I wouldn’t put it past that fat bastard Reid to do so). If you lose by highschool/college scores, you’re instantly a league disgrace.

I thought the same thing watching the game
When you are down by 20 points in the second half. You do not run HB dive plays on nearly every play, that doesn’t spell winning to me,
Haley made a comment in his press conference today that at least made me understand what he was thinking. He blurted out “I got pissed off and called 8 running plays in a row.” He was clearly unhappy with the 3 rushing yards in the first half. He went on to say something to the effect of what he was doing was to improve the team long-term, that they have to establish an identity and be able to run the football, even when they are behind.
Negative Ghost Rider the pattern is full...

that's interesting
I could see that… Haley had given up on actually winning and wanted to prove his point by making them establish the run, even if it wasn’t going to let them win.
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

That's still not good even if that's the case.
The run game wasn’t working because we were clearly getting outplayed in the trenches. No matter what the circumstance, you have to adjust and find a way to put points up and stay in the game. Haley did not try to do that.

I dont think this is the time to compare Haley to Rose as a gambler

Rose is the all time hit's leaders and never quit...earning him the nickname "Charley Hustle"
I would compare them either.

My take is this
this entire season, like it or not, is for puposes of evaluation only – I am honestly now of the belief that Pioli laid it out to Hunt who got on board, and then to Haley who had no choice but to get on board – look at as many guys as possible during the course of the season – see who bends and who breaks, who sucks it up and who disappears – I don’t think there is a concern to win even one game (not that they’d mind it so much) as the overarching concern is to simply see who can do what
think about it for a minute – if you buy it, then everything that’s happened since Pioli was hired makes sense

thanks j
not that I love the idea all that much, but it makes sense that IF that’s what they’re indeed doing, then yeah, it all makes sense now – and what we as fans need to remember is that we are NOT gonna win many games (and we’re gonna look bad doing it)
I do regret not filing my fanpost last night under “HUMOR” – I think some people took it WAY too seriously

I love the passion
you have! I have to agree with you about playing balls to the wall! I truly expected us to take risks on offense. I expected crafty play calling. I expected shots down the field even if it wasnt successful. It seems like football 101 at best. Basic tecmo bowl 8 play package! And dont get me started on the defenses lack of creativity in the blitz game!
I want K.C. Wolfs' job!

Thank You
What do you guys think about the quality of my post? i would love to be a sports writer someday.
As far as Pete Rose goes. I wan’t comparing Todd Haley to Pete Rose in terms of how great an athelete Pete was.
Pete Rose was one of the greatest hitters of all time. I was being tongue in cheek, about how Todd Haley purposely took a dive in that game. For no good reason, either. We all know he probably didn’t bet on the game.
He did however, give up and in my book that is never okay.
A poster said that they didn’t want the Eagles to hang 60 points on the Chiefs. So giving up was the good option, get the game over with. Stop the bleeding, that’s the answer?
That’s never the answer. Trying to win is the only answer, I would rather the Chiefs lose 55-7 trying to win the game. Then give up and lose the game the way they did, the way they lost was the bigger disgrace in my opinion.

Can't wait...
for pre-season to be over. I’m ready for some real football ! Who will start on the O-line for the opener? Anybody?

I'm ready for the regular season, I am also ready to hear people complain in a year or two, about trading Tyler Thigpen.
Could this be Elvis Grbac all over again. Only time will tell, that being said I like Cassel. He needs to throw the deep ball though, and quit trying to play it so conservative. I absolutely hate conservative football, be creative not conservative.

When you can only block for 0.2 seconds...
You don’t have time to throw deep. As for Haley, I liked your post, but I also don’t think he was quitting or giving up. He was sending that sorry O-Line a message that no matter how long it takes, you WILL learn how to run block. I’m usually pessimistic by nature, but Haley has done a really good job since he’s been here. He’s definitely made some mistakes but he’s a rookie head coach. Stay the course.

That's not good enough for me.
This is the NFL, you don’t throw away a game or the whole season to make a point, How does that make any sense. Can you really be a fan if you are okay with the team purposely losing.
Send a message, make your point. Don’t sacrifice a potential win to make your line run block, show them how to run block in practice. That is what freakin practice is for, not games.
When the second half started they were by no means out of the game. Haley has done a good job, but he was god awful in that game. I am staying the course, but ridiculous is ridiculous, no matter how you sugar coat it.
