Questions

No boys and girls, this is not about the Chiefs. This post is in regards to the AP site. I'm a little confused and needed some advice. It seems like most of you here hop on this site to help you get through your workday. Don't worry, I'll keep it our little secret. And yeah, I do the same thing. However, as soon as I get home, I try to fire up the computer and hop right back on to check what I'd missed in the last hour. It usually remains up for the duration of the night and is only shut down when the computer goes to bed itself. I love this site and am addicted like a crack baby. Does AP really stand for Addictive Pride? I wonder because the majority of folks who come to this site gradually acquire an addictive behavior. One that is only sated when posting or getting the latest feeds or updates. At any rate, my question pertains to the best times to post. I ask because for me, I can only post late at night. I am the sole provider in my family, wife and two children. I work ridiculous hours and when I get home, I have a few hours to play with the kids before they're in bed and then another couple hours to spend catching up on AP. Time with the wife? What, are you kidding me? She gets to sleep with me, what more could she want? Seriously though, when I post, it is generally after 10pm PST, so all (or most) of you are already in bed. Then, it seems the next morning, the pages are full of new posts and mine gets pushed out. So fellow members, please shoot me some advice on when to get the best feedback for my posts. I appreciate it. And if you get the time, please take a look at my latest post. Thanks guys and gals...

Then best time to post is between like 7 AM and 6 PM or so. That’s when the most people visit the site. Sometimes, like on game days, the FanPosts come flying in and things get lost.

Thanks Joel

Appreciate the feedback. I typically am in thinking mode when I’m sitting idle, reading this site, but you gave me an idea. Maybe I’ll just write the post and save it, then post it when I get to work the next morning.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

If your post is good enough

It wont matter when you post it…guys will read and comment and may even Rec it so it gets put to the top!

Dont let timing issues discourage you from posting…

*avoiding eye contact*

No, that's not what he's saying..

Heh. Seriously, some folks write solid stuff and don’t get huge notice. Some post nothing but fluff and get huge notice.

My Posts are pretty lame, but I always hope to get a conversation going, even if it’s just to help refine my understanding.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Increase the number of Fanposts and Fanshots to display in your profile settings.

You can change the number of fanpost and fanshots that are displayed in the “recent fanposts”. I have mine set at 20. Everyone should have a high number set because it allows you to see a lot of posts and usually even in high traffic days most posts stay on the front page for 24 hours.

Hahahaha

Sounds like you’re on the west coast. I feel your pain my man! I find that I’m on here late at night combing through the day’s threads sprinkling in my comments here and there only to rise and shine two hours later than the bulk of the KC fans, only to find my comments left hanging, buried by the new day’s events. LOL Such is life I guess. Once in awhile the third-watch crew lurks late at night and I get a little rapid-fire interaction with other Chiefs fans, but I’m typically in your boat.

Make your profile show a history of threads 50 deep and you’ll find that one or two thoughtful souls will go back and respond to your late (me too!) comments. UC, hmills and Steve_Chiefs are some of the best for throwing us a line. Thanks gents.

It's a sad commentary on my high level of low levels of other activities.

One thing to try is to get the ball rolling with a reply to your own Post, just to get it onto the radar screens of those who look no farther than “Recently Active.” You should get a boost right there.

I usually go through ‘most everything, but reserve comments for the pure football-related stuff. I’m kinda on the fringe of the pure community stuff. Congrats on the weddings, condolences on the funerals, and so forth, but not as social as Steve_Chiefs and the real AP community.

But all this is asynchronous, and the best threads occur when you strike a topic that’s timely both in news sense and in the presence-of-other-members sense. Joel, especially, will lurk right after one of his articles makes the front page, and we see a near-real-time-asynchronous discussion. It’s almost-chat, that’s fairly rare for most of us FanPosters, because we’re not there to instantly reply to every early comment, to get the ball rolling.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

That's why I rarely do fanposts

I put them up at night and nobody is there to converse with. By the time I get back to look the next evening my ass has been blistered all day and I never really had a fighting chance to defend my position. Hahaha. Oh well, such is life. I’ve found a nice balance with the 3rd-watch crew and a bit of commentary in the morning. The only bummer is missing out on the mayhem of a big breaking story during the day.

I’m also one of those who LOVES the game day open threads. I have a pretty high bullshit threshold, and it feels like watching the game with friends. Not many KC fans in San Diego. :)

I'm Here Buck

Been in San Diego for 10 years now. I’ve established a few friendships with KC fans, but one of my main pals moved back to the KC area. If you ever wanna watch a game sometime, hit me up. I typically don’t do the bar scene, as I have had Sunday Ticket for 5 years now. I prefer to stay at home anyways…

You got it

Sunday ticket at my house too! I was thinking of a tailgate when the Chiefs come to town this year. Could be fun to see how many SoCal folks we can get to come out for the game.

Definitely Let Me Know

I’d be down for that. Regardless of how we’re playing when our boys come to town, it’d still be fun to get out there and cheer them on. If nothing else, we could be a big pain in the ass to all these punk Chargers fans…

Addicted Posters

one thing I don’twon’tcan’t do is gameday threads … way too fast and furious, time I get a thought formed in my head it’s time for a new one, never mind typing and reading and replying

tis fun sharing ideas, the Great Debates, etc … and yeah, very addictive

No kidding man...

I have an ancient computer and weak internet…Gameday threads test me…

Faster Internet wouldn't help the gameday threads, much.

They’re more for guys who can’t find a good feed, anywhere, and get updates from the community in near-realtime. But the level of discussion is generally low, and anything really good actually hurts the realtime aspects. No time for a nested thread, when things are happening on the field.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Sep 26, 2009 1:37 PM CDT up reply actions

my PC is fast enough, very high speed internet ... the threads just go way too fast to respond in a timely fashion AND pay attention to the game

this coming from someone who’s been a “channel op” on IRC for years, often in places with 75-100 people, chatting at once about a number of different things

since I don’t have cable TV, and I’m stuck in the boondocks, I’ll stick with yahoo to show me the stats while I listen to Mitch and Len

The idea is to open 6 or 8 tabs, with big diatribes about likely plays.

Then tab thru your tabs on a big play and dump a bunch of preprepared smack.

“How could you throw that one away?”

“TOUCHDOWN KAN-SAS CI-TY!!!”

“PICK 6!!!”

I did the first one against the Ravens but decided I would rather watch all the details of the game.

I probably won’t do those threads anymore but, I will be on here celebrating our week 3 victory after we open a can of whoopass on Philly tomorrow.

Go Chiefs!!!!

Me, too.

And I’ll be doing the grading I was too lazy to do yesterday and today during the 2nd game.
