Pioli came to Kansas City and quickly unveiled the biggest ego in professional sports, earning him the nickname Scott Egoli.

Whitlock: NFL Truths:-Brady-will-always-hear-the-footsteps

really? Has anyone other than this jackoff called him Scott Egoli?

Not that I know of

I’ve heard numerous others say Pioli is a great guy, and hearing him the few times he’s done interviews he never came across as arrogant to these ears. Whitlock just doesn’t like the guy & is trying to wield the power he thinks he has (but doesn’t have in reality) to get public opinion turned against Pioli. You can tell by the way he lashes out in his articles that it’s personal for him.

by jmcgoblue on Sep 24, 2009 11:15 AM CDT reply actions

I've never even heard that before,

perhaps whitlock is confusing confidence with arrogance

by Bestofthewest on Sep 24, 2009 11:29 AM CDT reply actions

I say this with all 100% honest -- no hyperbole at all.

There are guys that post on AP that have exponentially greater insight than Jason Fucking Whitlock. And the guys that post on here don’t have the access that Whitlock has. They do have the same internet but Whitlock seems incapable of doing any research at all. Maybe his fingers are too fat for his keyboard.

Patrick Allen’s “Damn Haley” post, whether you agreed with it or didn’t, was better than anything Whitlock has written in years. It was insightful, well researched and very fun to read. And it wasn’t about Paddy where Whitlock’s writing is almost always about Whitlock.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Why?

Does Shitlock still have a job? I found AP after being fed up by his articles and the god awful forums.

My favorite was the racism accusations against Herm on the KC Star boards. Classic.

by sayten on Sep 24, 2009 11:41 AM CDT reply actions   1 recs

Oops

I was clearer in my head, I meant to say that there was accused racism by some forum members in the hatred and firing of Herm. Mind to keyboard = fail.

+1

I’m the same way. His articles were like the car crash that you pass and can’t help but look. I was tired of getting on the KC Star boards and even having to fight the temptation to read what ignorance his fingers typed that day.

Now I just look here for Chief’s news. I can’t even remember the last time I put myself through the pain of a Whitlock article.

by Johnny_U on Sep 24, 2009 3:16 PM CDT up reply actions

And anyway, I haven't heard anything even remotely egotistical from him.

He’s warm and engaging in all his interviews. He accepts all kinds of radio show spots even though some of them are relatively small and don’t bring in a lot of listeners.

He’s always smiling. He’s even less tight lipped than Coach Haley in some respects. That’s just crap that Whitlock hasn’t been fired yet and gone to work for the Steelers network and leave us alone.

Whitlock should drop dead

Plain and simple. God willing KC wins a Super Bowl in my lifetime and he’ll still have something to say. He should go eat another fourth grader for lunch.

Everyone knows Whitlock prefers 3rd graders.

Seriously, do some research GUY.

Penn State to Kansas City...Always a winning combination.

hes really going overboard

we all know he just wants to stir things up

but REALLY?

I dont care about ego…I REALLY dont, Bill B in NE, Bill Parcells….Jimmy Johnson…all have huge ego’s all were successful as a HC.

by SDChief on Sep 24, 2009 1:38 PM CDT reply actions

Scott Pioli is a class act. Whitlock

is a bluster filled, self serving, megalomaniac, who can’t push his fat ass away from the table before he downs the equivalent of Scot Pioli and Todd Haley for supper. What else is there to say?

by G.L. on Sep 24, 2009 1:39 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

I respect Whitlock for his ability,

but coming up with nicknames isn’t his best vocation.

However, he must be commended for coining “King Carl” and successfully skirting the issue of ownership-as-the-problem since he got here in 1994 (?).

Chiefs fans, do you know where your owner takes his profits?

I'm a newer member here at AP

so I know I don’t have much, if any, room to talk here but I’m going to make a motion that we never post any of this dumbasses articles on this site.

And as always
GO CHIEFS!!!

by kcchiefskicka on Sep 24, 2009 3:07 PM CDT reply actions

I have an idea: let's never mention his name again.

Let’s give Whitlock a nick name (something bland, like how Haley will refer to “the player”) and then never mention his name on this site again.

We could call him “the hack.”

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Whtilock making fun of anybody's else's ego is pretty damn funny.

Whitlock’s ego and sense of self-importance are almost as bloated as his big fat ass.

And I agree with everybody else on here: I’ve never seen any behavior out of Pioli where he doesn’t seem like a pretty cool and relatable guy. He’s well spoken and thoughtful and doesn’t seem at all like he has a huge ego for a guy who has won 3 Superbowls and been named Executive of the Year 3 times. I know we’ve debated Haley’s demeanor on here a lot this week, but does anybody see anything about Pioli’s demeanor that seems in any way unprofessional?

Seriously, Whitlock is a terrible sports writer, he offers virtually no insight into sports. Does anybody ever read a Whitlock article and think, “Wow, that’s an insightful point. I never thought about that before.” Maybe 5% of Whitlock articles contain something like this. Usually his criticism is something a 5th grader would glean. He is lazy at his job and couldn’t find Kaufman Stadium with a GPS.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

by Rev. Slappy on Sep 24, 2009 4:04 PM CDT reply actions

The ironic thing is

that he’ll never get fired, even though 90% of fans probably can’t stand his opinions, because we can’t stop reading his BS. The Star doesn’t care if we like him or hate him as long as we read his articles & bring in add revenue. You’ll notice that every time one of Whitlock’s articles is posted on KC.com it’s the #1 most read article of the day. If he was always writing “It’s a process…they’re showing progress…give it time” nobody would be talking about it.

I wish he would get big enough to leave the KC market.

If he gets any bigger...

He won’t be able to get out of the office. That or he’ll start attracting other hacks through his own gravitational pull.

I'll agree, I like a columnist who is objective and tells it like it is. I think Posnanski does that.

Posnanski has been ripping the Royals on his blog and I don’t think any of it is malicious or meanspirited. Of course Joe does this weird thing where he makes a point and then has facts to support what he thinks.

Whitlock is not an objective observer. Saying Scott Pioli has the biggest ego in professional sports is just a ludicrous statement to make, especially when Pioli’s public persona seems like a pretty balanced and nice guy.

Whitlock is in it for Whitlock. Sure he isn’t a flack for the team but at the same team he isn’t going to criticize them from a place of honest observation and he sure as hell isn’t going to offer much to defend what he thinks. Whitlock is a shitty writer and they only keep him around because he does generate controversy.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Just a thought

I don’t read or click on articles by this writer any longer. Since a large majority of the comments are about the person and really don’t forward discussion about the Chiefs, I’m wondering if AP links to his stuff are best left on the right side of the page and not placed on the main page.

(I have the utmost respect for all the leaders of AP and hope none of you are offended. I’m really not trying to tell you what to do. Not the point I’m trying to make. You’ve built a great, great blog. Thanks.)

From now on...I think we will do our best to not mention this man...

…and when we do, it must be “Jabba” only..
