Haley and Cassel vs Ryan and Sanchez
I know it is early but I will always watch Rex Ryan and Sanchez and see how well they do. I wanted Ryan as our HC bad and have no complaints about haley but Rex Ryan-Mark Sanchez combo would look pretty good right now. We switched to a 3-4 and would have probably added MLB Bart Scott. I think Cassel will be fine with more support but it is hard to ignore how well Sanchez is doing.
Anyone else follow these two comparing what could have been?

Nope. I don't look at it that way.
The Jets are playing very well right now but, they were in a different place than we are to start this season. our team ws left in a shambles! The Jet’s however have a very good amount of talent and are a little closer to being playoff ready than this Chiefs team.
I actually feel like the Chiefs are exactly where they are supposed to be: showing large amounts of improvement every week on both sides of the ball. By the middle of this season, we will see a team that comes together and is going to be a FORCE to reckon with. we will get a LOT of wins closer to the end of this year.
Then again, maybe I’m just a KC homer.

I agree 100%
but I am a KC homer too. I see a lot of improvement when the team gets it together.
One of the things i didn’t like is it took so long for Haley to get the players he wanted, now they have to learn to play together in the reg season. Switching out a player here and there is OK but switching out so many players like he did they never have had time to gel, thats why I agree it will be close to mid season when we will see the real team.
Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

the late pickups
might be more on Pioli than Haley, but who knows. I’m sure they put their heads together a lot on the evaluations of current and possible players and make those decisions together.

wrecked
No “what if’s” needed.
Haley and Cassel are exactly as advertised, and both will prove to be among the best additions to the Cheifs in years, IMO.
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
sounds about right
this new Chiefs regime is being baptized by fire, they’re going to have to come together playing against the best division in football. The schedule is a lot easier in comparison afterwards however

Yeah...
the Jets defense was stacked already before Ryan ever got hired. That had Revis, Pace, Ellis, Jenkins, and Rhodes. All Rex had to do was add another LB in Scott for leadership and his exotic blitz packages and boom, they have the best defense in the league. That offensive line is stacked too. They are exactly like the Ravens. Great defense, solid o-line with a good running game, and rookie QB.
Same formula for Matt Ryan in Atlanta
Good offensive line, very good running back, good defense (for the most part). You put your rookie in a quarterback in a situation where it doesn’t have to be all him every play, and the good ones will succeed.

Haley or not
our QB was going to be Cassel. There’s no way Pioli passes up trading for a potential franchise QB with only a second round pick. Further Ryan’s loudmouth mentality is hardly Pioli’s preference

I actually like Coach Ryan...Even the smack talk.
His team has literally taken on his attitude as their own. That team has a swagger about them that I am sure their fans are very happy to see. it would be nice to see that kind of confidence on the Chiefs… I guess it will happen once we start winning.

I don't like it
The Jets haven’t won a damn thing yet. Shut up until you accomplish something. They started 8-3 last year and played as many playoff games as the Chiefs did. Plus he’s fat.

and that's just immoral lol jk jk

They have beat two VERY respectable teams already this year.
I think they have the right to walk with a little bit of swagger. Without that attitude, they may not have been able to go out in the second half last week and made the Pats look like chumps. it’s a chicken or the egg type of thing.
Does the winning create the swagger or does the swagger help create the win???

as long as they keep backing it up I'm fine with it
but I wouldn’t want that in KC. I like the humble approach. My coach in high school always said “We speak with our play not our mouths.” whenever we had a player smack talking even on the field. Then in reference to touchdowns “Show them you’ve been there before. Hand the ball to the ref and thank your team mates.” We never had a season where we didn’t at least play in the state championship.

So you think we would be 2-0 w/ Sanchez and Ryan?? Are these overnight K.C. fans questioning haley/cassell?? Cmon! Don’t wanna sound like an ass but give haley two yrs before passing judgement and I say 2 yrs cause this whole yr will be spent cleaning up Herm and Carls mess.

Only diffrence
Ryan and sanchez inherited a good team, mangini shouldnt have been fired. Todd and cassel inherited a 2 and 14 team
No Comment My Team is here
Don’t want to look at that comparison as If anything I would have done exactly what the we did with the exeption of Cassel as the Draft this year is deep and QB Talent is very high. As I look through what I have the fifth QB on the board ranks right with Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco, thats not to say they will actually tranfer to the NFL as well but the potential for this years draft is very high.
Trading Tony G was a mistake, after a few weeks he would of been happy with the changes and played like Tony G does.
wow calm down
I am fine with Haley and Cassel but like I said I will always watch how the Jets do just to see what we could have had. Kind of like the 84 draft for QBs we got Blackledge and well you know how the rest played out…
I support Haley and Pioli and think it will take time but right now we are a train wreck to say the least. I think they will right the ship but they have made plenty of mistakes.
The one thing I think hurting us so much in year 1 is that it took so long to hire Pioli and wait for Haley to finish the Super Bowl. We lost out on several coachs and players but it will be worth it in future years I just think they did not do a good job of evaluating our talent until training camp since they were behind.
plenty of mistakes?
What do you think they are? Are you referring to acquisitions (or lack thereof) or in game decisions? Or what?
I’m fine with everything they’ve done in acquisitions EXCEPT they didn’t do enough in the offseason for the OL. Maybe there just weren’t good options but I have a hard time believing they couldn’t have found better options than we currently have. But, we’ll see.
Haley has made some bad game decisions – so have the players.
Air Cassel - approved for takeoff
I think Ryan's a great one.
But we haven’t really seen the Jets face any adversity. Much better team to start with, and I expected ’em to beat the Patsies. If things turn south, though, how much of the bad side of Buddy is lurking in the fat man?
Ryan has been VERY impressive, nonetheless. Seems to understand D the way his daddy did, and to understand people the way his daddy didn’t. The way he handles himself with that Jets team and the media contrasts with the things about Haley that drive callmesir crazy.
But from where I sit, Haley looked like more of a HC-in-training than Ryan. I couldn’t be sure if Ryan was all that great in Baltimore or whether he was just the beneficiary of a lot of good players who could run things on their own. It’s looking like Ryan knows the balance between guidance and free rein as a HC, and Ryan will be as good or better than Haley. But who knows how Ryan might be coming across as KC head coach, right now, with all the positions that were obviously in flux. He might just be the beneficiary of the team that Mangini built.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
