Former Chiefs Popping Up on UFL Rosters
From the FanPosts. -Chris
Many probably find the upstart United Football League as an irrelevancy during the early weeks of the NFL regular season. The UFL barely registers a blip on the sports news radar as its four teams start practice this week in preparation for a six-game season kicking off October 8th on the Versus Network. While the league's marketing slogan is "Where the Future Stars Come to Play," it can be argued that the leauge's rosters are instead filled with NFL veterans who flamed out for one reason or another, including quite a few names familiar to Chiefs fans...
The head coaches of the UFL comprise a short list of hopefuls for NFL vacancies in 2010: Jim Haslett, Ted Cottrell, Denny Green, and Jim Fassel. Doug Flutie and Kordell "Slash" Stewart will man the booth and patrol the sidelines as part of UFL's TV crew. This will add an air of familiarity to the league for serious NFL fans, and Chiefs fans in particular will recognize a few names on each team's roster:
California Redwoods:
WR B.J. Sams; WR Bobby Sippio; TE Michael Allan
Las Vegas Locomotives:
WR Samie Parker; LB Gary Stills
New York Sentinels:
QB Quinn Gray; WR Craphonso Thorpe
Florida Tuskers:
Other "notables" include Odell Thurman, Craig Nall, Az-Zahir Akim, J.P. Losman, Simeon Rice, Koren Robinson, and Tatum Bell. Local players from Northwest Missouri State University include QB Chris Greisen and OL Seth Wand.
With these types of players, I think this is rather the league where the fallen stars come to play. It just may be a bit more credible and interesting to watch than the ill-fated XFL. I for one will be tuning in on October 8th out of morbid curiousity!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

hmm...
I’ve not payed a lick of sense to this league, but I like the fact that it gives players who are not “NFL” material or are past they’re prime a chance to still do what they love at lower level of chompetition.

do you know what happened to Eddie Kennison?
by zbartmess on Sep 23, 2009 12:01 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I heard Sammie Parker on the radio the other day.
He dropped by the station to promote a new Rap CD which is expected to drop this fall. He said he attended community college for sports broadcasting after the NFL but dropped out when he realized his potential to be a music star. He said his family took it hard when he dropped the news regarding his decision. His wife ended up divorcing him but he’s with a new girl and she’s supposed to be drop dead gorgeous. Most importantly, she supports his determination to * cough * hold on to his dreams.

Future
If this league somehow takes off, maybe the nfl will offer the best franchises a shot at expansion. Or treat the league like a farm league. I think the AFL was thought of as inferior at first. Look what happened.

There is no room...
for expansion. Three of the franchises are in markets that have already been tapped with the exception of Vegas and Los Angeles. The Jags will move to LA. Mark my words. The NFL would be perfect with the exception of the overtime rule and what ever happens to the new CBA.

I like this...
I had high hopes for Michael Allen…..prototypical recieving TE…but that was about it. I hope he catches on and does great.

You weren't the only one who asked this question
From the Las Vegas Sun By Case Keefer
Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 | 4:20 p.m.
When United Football League commissioner Michael Huyghue first told Las Vegas coach Jim Fassel that his team’s name would be the Locomotives, the former NFL head coach wasn’t so sure about it.
Fassel said he didn’t understand the nickname and its ties to the city. But before long, the name had grown on Fassel.
Sun: What do you like about being called the Locomotives?
Jim Fassel: I think it has a history in it about Las Vegas. I think it opens your mind and gets you educated. I had no idea about that. When you talk about the railroad coming through here, it was a big part of Las Vegas getting started. I know we are going way back. But to me it shows the innovativeness of wanting history and some tradition. Everything is tied to the gaming industry here. We didn’t have to follow that trail.

Yeah...
I think Rice he can still play in the NFL is trying to prove doing that in the UFL. He has like over 100 career sacks. I think its sad personally. He is the only one on these rosters that actually did something in the league.

I watch Arena Football sometimes so
I’d probably watch it if it’s on when I’m at home and not doing anything.

They should seriously start the UFL season during the NFL off season
then the NFL could scout and acquire free agents from the UFL and the fans could be subsided a bit until the draft rolls around or free agency begins. Correct me if I’m wrong
