Good Morning. Busy few days for me. I'll be posting and running.

A pair of games into the 2009 season, it already appears that some media and fans have absolutely no patience.

How else to describe the tavern talk and talk show babble that Todd Haley should replace Matt Cassel (right) after one start as the Chiefs quarterback. The call has gone out for Brodie Croyle to be the man. Yes that’s the same Brodie Croyle that so many lost faith in over the last few years because he couldn’t stay healthy.

Haley said that, like all other positions, the quarterback job will remain available to the most proficient player — regardless of salary, name or background.

“You’ve got to ultimately do what gives your team the best chance to win,” Haley said Tuesday. “If that means another quarterback being in there other than Matt Cassel, then sign me up.”

Chiefs’ Cassel can’t count on starting if he doesn’t produce from KC Star

Whitlock Alert

Haley’s Tuesday news conference was absolutely fascinating. It was Bill Parcells-esque, not Bill Belichick-esque.

You understand the difference? In dealing with the media, Parcells is real, honest, straightforward. Belichick is intentionally bland, mysterious and worthless. Haley was groomed by Parcells. Egoli was groomed by Belichick.

Parcells has been successful everywhere he’s coached. Belichick built a dynasty in New England after flopping in Cleveland.

The Kansas City Chiefs have lost some of the goodwill they had coming into the season after starting 0-2 exclusive data to KCTV5 from Spiral16 shows.

Spiral16 shows that after week one, the sentiment about the Chiefs was still overwhelmingly positive online, with more than 73 percent of the sites mentioning the Chiefs having a positive bent.

Going on a rant after the Chiefs lose to the Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium is starting to become an annual event.

Regardless of whether you root for the Chiefs or the Raiders or the Jaguars or whoever, though, it would be hard not to complain about that game if you saw it. Oakland and Kansas City seem to be capable of putting forth the grossest displays of football ineptitude seen in the NFL today, so what do you think happens when you put them on the same field at the same time?

So for this week's Hangover I am going to set the normal format aside, and instead give out awards for Sunday's action to NFL teams, coaches, executives and players in many of the Emmy categories.

There were several parts of this 13-10 game in which the camera cut away from the action on the field. Thanks for that, cameraman.

DJ Gallo's NFL Hangover, Week 2 from ESPN.com

Stupid play of the week: The Kansas City Chiefs were going to take the prize this week for how badly quarterback Matt Cassel(notes) managed the clock at the end of the first half, costing his team a shot at a field goal in what turned out to be a three-point loss to the Oakland Raiders. Then, with 3:14 remaining in the week’s final game, the Dolphins passed the Chiefs like a Ferrari vs. a Smartcar.

Thanks!

Always nice to wake up to my early morning dose of Chefs’ (oh no, he did not say that) news! Thanks again & always!

Great Googily Moogily

I hope that clip on youtube isn’t the highlight of the season. Anyone else think we have a chance against the Iggles this weekend? I don’t feel as good about the game if McNabb is starting though, and as of now, he is in the Eagles projected starting lineup…

I just want to see our secondary against Kolb…. they would eat him alive.

I just hope Pioli makes a trade or brings in a player.

Because if he doesn’t all were are going to see all week is about Cassel vs Croyle.

Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

me too!

I’m dying for a roster move to give me something interesting to read about.
Cassel v Croyle is dumb.

* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

This Cassel vs Croyle talk is ridiculous!!!

There is no way they will start Croyle unless Cassel is hurt. Ever!

In the new conference yesterday, Haley said he likes to break the season down into four quarters ...

… just a hunch here, but I’m guessing from the overall tone and comments made in resonse to various questions, that Haley is giving Cassel this first “quarter” to prove (or disprove) himself on the field … that if … IF … Cassel doesn’t improve (to Haley’s satisfaction) and if … IF … Croyle DOES continue to improve (to Haley’s satisfaction) that you could very well be looking at Croyle for the second “quarter”

of course it all depends on who does what, how things go, etc, etc ad nauseum

That was a Parcells thing

“4 quarters”. I can’t remember the reference exactly, but Parcells once told the media that, and proceeded to explain what he meant a little better than Haley did here.

It has something to do with, you need to win a certain percentage of games each quarter of the season to have a successful season. I don’t remember exactly. But the idea is that Haley doesn’t want to go 0-4 in this first quarter.

It's a math thing

Parcells was a very superstitious guy. Had elephants pointed at the door and shit, in his office. I mean superstitious to the extreme. It was some math superstition thing.

it's dumb and insane

the funniest part is that Cassel PLAYED WELL vs the Raiders!!!!!
He looked good overall, led the drive that should have won the game, ran the ball, and showed some fire.

i don’t know what else you’d expect from him in his first game back… but I saw NOTHING that would make me wish Croyle was starting

I see Whitlock has a new person to bitch about.

We all knew he would find something to complain about. The only thing he can write is negativity.

You must have missed his column about Gabbert

Actually, Jason was giving props to Haley in his latest column …

ANd Jeff George, you forgot about jeff George!

Yeah,but

he’s only giving props to Haley in an attempt to isolate Pioli. This is classic divide and conquer strategy that isn’t going to work, because Pioli is Haley’s boss.

by jcru on Sep 23, 2009 10:42 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

And you say this because ... ???

Waht, you think Jason’s secretly planning a Coup D’Etat to “take over” the team? Divide and conquer???

by upamtn on Sep 23, 2009 10:45 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Uh, no

Certainly not that concerned about it. Just saying that he obvously hates Pioli is all. I think he explained that in his column. Same way he explained the Haley vs. Waters exchange.

Now, he likes Haley. ? Confused? Who wouldn’t be.

What? No more “I can take 22 players off the street and win 2 games” quotes?

Sorry, but if I were Haley I’d be weary of any flattery coming from this guy. Isn’t there some quote here about forgiving your enemies, but never forget their names, that would be appropriate right about now.
