Jamaal Charles Inactive for the Chiefs
Ah, the mysteries around the new Kansas City Chiefs.
Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star reports Matt Cassel and Brandon Flowers will be active against the Oakland Raiders today.
Jamaal Charles is not, however.
OK, what happened?
We're assuming this means that there's been some sort of injury. However, Charles was not listed on any of the league mandated injury reports (Wednesday through Friday). Cassel and Flowers were both listed as limited participants in practice.
So, if it's injury related, then we have to assume the injury occurred sometime after the injury reports were distributed at 5:00 PM on Friday.
For the second week in a row, the Chiefs have a surprise scratch from the lineup. It will be interesting to see what, if any explanation there is on Charles and Cottam.
Update 10:47 AM: Here are the rest of the inactives:
Tyler Thigpen - 3rd QB
WR Terrance Copper
QB Matt Gutierrez
CB Ricardo Coclough
RB Jamaal Charles
C/G Andy Alleman
TE Brad Cottam
LB Pierre Walters
The Chiefs can only have 45 on the active roster so eight of the 53 are inactive.
Chris will be posting the open thread around 11:00 AM (CST).

I hope these "surprise scratches"
don’t continue to surprise. We are a better team with Charles out there.

Damn
That’s too bad. Jamaal gives us a lot of versatility in the back field.

Charles...
..is not very good. Give me Savage every time.
Good morning AP!
I’m surprised he is inactive………
The difference between a good and bad day, isn't what changes in your day...It's what changes in you.
shocking
I wonder what’s up with Charles.
But, Colclough and Cottam being inactive likely does indicate they are close to being replaced.
Copper and Walters are probably the bottom of the roster as well… and IF the Chiefs activate Lance Long, or bring in another FA… you’d think they’d be the first to cut
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
agreed
Cottam/Colcolough are prob next to get chopped….
charles surprises me, and im sad about it, I love his change of pace.
A surprise to me, is also thigpen…that speaks volumes that hes inactive….
3rd qb's are always considered inactive
you can only play them if both of your other qb’s are out and if you play your 3rd/emergency qb, you can’t put one of your others back in

They need to be listed as injured if they were hurt
If all these guys are out because of coach’s decision it does not make sense.
Charles is needed and the team should suit 3 QB’s otherwise why carry 4 on the roster ?
they do have 3 qb's
the #3 is usually always listed as “emergency” so as not ot take up a spot on the 53
Hope Flowers is 100% .I guess we’re gonna be seeing a good dose of LJ either way GO CHIEFS!!!!!
