QB prediction time, Cassel's stats for this season

No QB controversy here.  Cassel is the man and he will QB all year barring any serious injury.  What I feel is important is to gauge our expectations of this young man in his new surroundings. Going by gut feeling alone I thnk Cassel will have decent numbers this year, but unspectacular.  My prediction:

3000+ YDS, gonna be throwing a lot cause we're gonna be behind a lot

21-23 TD's,  decent for a starting QB,

18 INT's,  our boy is gonna be feeling pressure all day behind our line, this will lead to sacks & picks & fumbles

He will create a solid relationship with the premiere target on the team D Bowe 10-12 TD's

No TD's for any of our scrub TE's, they will spend the next 16 games blocking their asses off.

Couple of TD's for Lelie & Bradley

Couple receiving TD's for Jamaal Charles, I can see him becoming a Priest Holmes type coming out of the backfield for short passes and making LB's miss. (Nowhere near the talent or production of Holmes but used in the same style IMO).

What do you guys think, and sorry if this has been discussed at length, I have looked and haven't seen this topic before.   Look forward to your feedback and predictions.

Cassels' stats will be a product of Haley's philosophy

I think Haley wants to run the ball at least early this year and try to control the game with the D and the clock. So, Cassels 300 yard games will be lower than last years in NE. I think he had like 2-3 400 yard games last year?
at least 2 back to back. I think the Interceptions are going to ba lot lower than your prediction maybe around 10.
so 3000 yards seem right, and TD’s about right. Just the Interceptions would be my disagreement :) Nice post to finish the preseason on :)

Haley firing Chan..

Tells me he wants to get more vertical and use more of the middle of the field in the passing game. From what I understand, Chan was a bit conservative when it came to throwing the ball.

We’ll probably see either a lot more shotgun, or a lot more 3-step drops. Not a whole lot of play-fakes and plays that take a while to develop. Just methodical short passes, which is a much higher percentage pass.

Just like in AZ, we’ll have to use the pass to set up the run because there are absolutely zero lanes for LJ to run through.

The play that Cassel got hurt on looked to me like the run would have picked up yardage

rather than the screen that Gailey was trying to run

Perhaps

But if you look at it again, the middle and weak side LBs didn’t even bite on the fake — read it clean. Had the ball been handed off, guarantee those guys would have been in pursuit.

And Cassel would not have been hurt

and if the LB’s didn’t bite on fake the screen would have failed also :(

Yea, they had the entire play pretty well-covered

Just looked at it again

That run so wouldn’t have worked. After Goff pulled, he had the choice to block one of two guys. The ROLB he would have driven right into LJs running lane on the outside, and #97 was there in the other gap.

But because he saw LJ didn’t have the ball, he made no move to penetrate.

Ha;ey was upset we got away from the run against Seattle.

He was pretty clear about it in the post game presser. Watch the video.

I know what he said

But I also know what I see. Our running game is horrid.

You disagree?

They wanted to run the ball in AZ too

And they couldn’t, so what did they resort to? Quick passes, slants to open up more of the run game. Granted, theirs was still terrible. But they were money on short yardage — 3rd and 1, 3rd and 2 – because defense HAD to respect their passing game, which they ran willfully whenever they wanted.

I think the running game will be our strength offensively.

This line is MUCH better at run blocking than pass protection. Balanced attack is what I am hoping for. Arizona is a great team but I think our backfield has more weapons, just like their team is more built for passing.

hmm

very high expectations. if he can stay healthy and our D is better these numbers could really come to life. hoping for fewer picks thought.. Keep in mind we are going to play ALOT of tough D’s this year.

I think

you’re a little low in the yardage department and a little optomistic on the TD/INT ration. Assuming he starts at least 15 games 3500 yards seems likely as we’ll likely find ourselevs behind (due to schedule) and in shootouts (AFC West).

I expect him to struggle with INTs early as he learns the O with his receivers. I also expect us to run more frequently in the Red Zone which will lower some TD chances.

Both TDs and INTs in the 17-18 range,

Continue his streak!

I believe that he has 11 receptions for 11 touchdowns! Very nice streak that I’d like to see continue.

if you take in account games played

most of the stats are about the same or worse than Thigpens. They bought Cassel in so we can do better than last year, lets have some faith.

Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

I'm guessing this is assuming cassel starts all 16 games?

I don’t think, with our offensive line, that cassel will make it all 16 games. I believe he will miss at least 4 games this year do to some kind of injury

roughly 2000 yards
12 TD
7 INt

and he will be sacked time and time again.

by Bearson on Sep 3, 2009 10:05 AM CDT reply actions

Since I've got him on my fantasy team, I'm going to say Peyton who?

10,000 yards
100 Touchdowns
0 INTs

Realistically, he’s going to have good games and bad, I can see him consistently throwing 300 yard games after week 8, but it will be up and down until then, the offense hasn’t jelled yet.

Negative Ghost Rider the pattern is full...
