Discussing this over a pint last night got us wondering what we could call the Chiefs if such a ruling went through and was expanded across the NFL.

The Kansas City Sunflowers?

Well Mitch here we are in the press box of the new stadium "The Smokehouse" what do you think of the Kansas City Ribs' new uniforms?

It is simple.

The Kansas City Arrows. Arrowhead stays the same, the logo stays the same, etc. Arrows were/are used by tribal cultures all over the world since the beginning of history. But actually the Chiefs were named after H. Roe Bartle’s nickname which he acquired from his involvement in Boy Scouts.

Chief doesn't mean Native American

It simply means leader. It would never hold up in court. The Logo being an arrowhead is fine.

–noun 1. the head or leader of an organized body of people; the person highest in authority: the chief of police.
2. the head or ruler of a tribe or clan: an Indian chief.
3. (initial capital letter) U.S. Army. a title of some advisers to the Chief of Staff, who do not, in most instances, command the troop units of their arms or services: Chief of Engineers; Chief Signal Officer.
4. Informal. boss or leader: We’ll have to talk to the chief about this.
5. Heraldry. a. the upper area of an escutcheon.
b. an ordinary occupying this area.

The Redskins should have to change their names IMO.

That was one of our conclusions

The fact that the Chiefs have got rid of the more derogatory aspects such as a guy painted up to look like a native American riding on a horse probably insulates us to an extent. Probably ought to stop the Tomahawk chop mind you.

We did briefly consider:

Kansas City Rednecks
Kansas City Mullets
Kansas City Honkies
Kansas City Whities

Blame my wife!
Waiting until August!
