What has happenned to Brad Cottam?

I nominate Brad for world's tallest invisible man.  After looking real good catching the ball last year in camp, he has completely disappeared, and looks to be the next Herm high round draftee that may be headed out the door soon.   What the hell has happenned to this guy?  He looked to have all the tools, and suddenly he's behind a total stiff in Sean Ryan?  He was specifically drafted as a blocking TE, and yet he can't play ahead of Sean Ryan, who so far looks like a dreadful blocker, and is a lousy receiving TE.

I never thought Cottam was gonna amount to anything.

He didnt do anything at TN…..how could he do anything in the NFL.

I Wasn't Particularly Thrilled With Cottam Either

Thought he was more of a “tools” guy who’d never really measured up in real production in college to what people seemed to think he’d become in the NFL. I think many people tended to see him as a future Tony Gonzalez because that’s what Carl Peterson kept hinting he’d become, whereas by that point I figured Carl Peterson just didn’t know what the hell he was talking about and should have drafted Jeremy Zuttah.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West. Revision: We go 5-11 and finish behind Oakland.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
8. The Chiefs will have a bottom 10 defense this year.
9. RB will be a problem area this season on offense.

Or Anthony Collins

Who is now a pretty solid starter at RT for the Bengals and who would have been a definite upgrade for us at that position.

Your predictions...

look pretty damn good with the exception of Succcop. That kid is here to stay after nailing that 50 yarder and consistently kicking off deep.

Well, I Deleted A Couple Of Them

The one about Larry Johnson getting cut before the season pretty much blew up in my face…not that he’s done anything to make me think he shouldn’t have been cut. :)

Umm Sean Ryan had a nice little TD catch for us last week

I dunno if I would call him a stiff.

D-Bowe, Mark Bradley, Bobby Engram and Turtle. Four Chiefs WRers. 4 Pro Bowlers.

as much as I want to hate Ryan

I think he’s coming around.

He’s made some big catches against StL and Baltimore.
not sure that his blocking has come around yet… but he’s certainly the #1 TE on this team today.

* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season

He also had a key drop on the last set of downs. But the main problem with Ryan is that he apperas to be a dreadful blocker.

by dablueguy on Sep 16, 2009 2:32 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

great question

He certainly should have the physical tools.

But, you’re right… if he even played against Baltimore, I didn’t see him once.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s on his way out, which is too bad… he’s all potential. But that’s not enough for this team.

If the Chiefs sign Pope or another TE… Cottam is gone, IMO

Agreed

Potential is not enough to stay on this team. I had high hopes for Cottam, but he may be out!

I want K.C. Wolfs' job!

agreed

Haley says he goes off what he sees not off what he hopes for…I haven’t seen cottam do crap…but I’m not the coach either.

I'm surprised as well..Really thought Cottam would amount to become

a good nfl tight end..Not great but good.

IMO the jury is still out on Sean..I was highly skeptical of him but his td catch last week impressed me..

Me too

but he needs to have better control of that ball. He got lucky as hell that it bounced right back to him after he fumbled…

Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

by kcchiefsfan72 on Sep 16, 2009 5:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think the verdict is still up in the air on him

I still have hope that Cottam will produce. Its kind of like Dorsey I know he was a high first round pick but just give him a little more time I would say he will end up starting before the year is over….

He is hiding under a desk somewhere at Arrowhead

Hoping they don’t find him when they come looking for his playbook.

Brad Cottam here.

I really resent the fact that you guys are all badmouthing me on this site. I’m going to bring my 6’7" self down there and start shoving my size 13 up some of your asses. WITH the cleats on! What do you expect, Tony fuckin Gonzalez? That ship has sailed!

You know UC

This optimism is getting irritating and the pessimism is getting nauseaus.
I am beginning to use Google for spell check and am losing the enjoyment of the game.
Is this too much realisticity or uber-fan overload. I am thinking of starting a Chiefs Fan Re-hab site in AZ. Do you know of maybe a Spahn Ranch type setting nearby that My ..ah.. er Followers might commune to work out our

No. We stole that 2nd rounder, and if they want it back it’ll cost them more than Tony G.

by dablueguy on Sep 17, 2009 5:31 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Ryan is better than cottam

Cottam had size which got some people excited, but just like most herm draftees, they had a major flaw. Here’s herms quote about bernard pollard.

“He hits hard, but he’s not a guy you want to get out in space with a receiver”…….Why would you draft a safety that can’t run in open space with a receiver??? Exactly.
