Report: Chiefs Worked Out TE Leonard Pope

Here's a quick one for you. Former Arizona Cardinals TE Leonard Pope recently worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs according to the National Football Post.

Former Arizona Cardinals third-round draft tight end Leonard Pope visited the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a league source.

Pope had recently tried out for the Kansas City Chiefs, too.

He was cut by the Cardinals during their final major roster cutdown.

The former University of Georgia player has caught 48 career passes for 476 yards and five touchdowns since being drafted in the 2006 NFL draft.

Jump in on the conversation because....I'm headed to wedding dance lessons! Argh!

Read what we've been saying about Pope recently at this link. A lot of people thought Pope to the Chiefs made sense.

Have fun with that =p

If we sign him i hope he turns out to be a replica of Jason Dunn.

More comments regarding possibly signing Pope or Chris taking dancing lessons?

Chris is a terrible dancer

It’s so bad that he’s not even going to try to refute this.

Getting him dance lessons is a priority at this point.

Is he getting married or something?

doesnt suprise me in the least

any receiver or tight end who has ever played under Haley is going to come in and work out once they are cut. The question here is he an upgrade to anyone we currently have on the roster and i say yes!

by jrcnc on Sep 15, 2009 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

and in my opinion

doesnt that say something about Haley that all those guys come here to have a work out with their former coach? he knows those receivers well and even though they may just be looking for anything because they have been cut i feel they respect Haley and want to work with him!

Wrong Ex-Cardinal but better then what we have at TE I think.

Doesnt help our blocking TE need though as thats not exactly his forte.

Agreed

I mean, Chris just has two left feet. No matter how hard he works, he won’t become a good dancer.

TE is the least talented position on the team

I like what they are doing, building from the bottom of the roster up.

I would love to have Leonard Pope

Dude is huge…..6’8" 264lbs. Two seasons ago he caught 5TD’s in only 10 games. That is awesome for a TE in the Cardinals system. In HS he was playing Free Safety…he is very athletic. Our TE situation is poor to say the least. Pope would be a major upgrade over any of our current TE’s

He is also a very good person. Here is a video showing about his goodness.

From this description

he sounds awesome. Sooooooooooooooo, why is he unemployed? Not like the Cards have an all pro TE.

I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

He was barely targeted last year

so I assume he will be a blocking TE? I’m okay with that so long as he can catch too, which it sounds like he can. We need all the help we can get in the form of blocking, and since it seems he can catch, he could potentially be a nice crutch for Cassel to lean on the first few weeks.

Blocking should be the #1 priority if we are to bring in a new TE.

Especially since we may very well be stuck with our O-line the way it is.

i remember pope in college and in the combine

hes a good blocker without good speed but his hands arent bad either. I could easily see him being signed and taking over for Ryan. He is young and has some talent. There are other players we need more but I would like to sign him more than Wade.

Scoop on Pope...from Cardinals perspective

Cardinals fans describe Pope as our DJ – a skilled athlete with all the physical tools and flashes of brilliance which hans’t translated to CONSISTENT on the field succcess. Cardinals cut him becuase he did not fulfill his potentional on the field after 3 years. .They say his blocking did not imprvoe despite all the physical tools. Cardinals became frsutrated with him.

Sounds like a great opportunity for a 2nd chance with a coach like Haley who knows him and can get the best out of him. Yea, he’s a quality person. Great video. Thanks for posting!
