Ike Ndukwe

Chiefs fans have been worried about the RT position for a year now. We finally dumped Mcintosh and played Ndukwe in game one. I tried to pay attention to him as much as i could and i saw a solid RT. I never saw him get flat beat but he wasn't man handling his opponents either.  A couple of times I saw him get pushed into the backfield but he still staying on his man. Ndukwe didn't blow me away but he looked solid, which is light years better than what we had. I'm very curious about what the rest of you saw (with all your fancy NFLN and TIVO) from him.

I'm thinking he did well enough, at least in that game, to direct our panic toward C

He got beat a couple of times

He let his guy bat down two balls.

I think he may be ok. He was far from perfect but it was the Ravens.

Now run blocking is a different matter.

D-Bowe, Mark Bradley, Bobby Engram and Turtle. Four Chiefs WRers. 4 Pro Bowlers.

He will be a GREAT backup.

We need a more aggressive Rt who can manhandle his guy and open up running/passing lanes.

We need help on the line…period.

He was an upgrade over Sacintosh

But then again, who wouldn’t be? He is not the long term answer IMO – just a quick patch to keep the 63 million dollar man alive a little longer.

I agree

I think he’s a good backup RG/RT… I like his versatility.

I did see him get beat badly once, but other than that was OK.

I still think the starter at RT is not on the roster as of yet… unless O’Callaghan steps up in practice this week

Hes a guard we need to get him to guard.

Need a guy like Runyan to come in, be cheap, only stay short term, groom our two young RT who have the same physique/style as him and have him bring his nasty attitude to the rest of the guys on the line.

I agree with Stag.

Yeah, I think he is a good back-up and rotation player. I still think we need that starting RT whoever he is. If we don’t get another then I do believe he will get better as time goes on and the O-Line works together more.

He's a Right Guard

He was the top guard in the NFL last year with miami with a .06 sack percentage the whole season. We need a new RT so we can line him up at guard, then once they all Gel together it’ll be great.

Mike Goff is the one who needs to be cut.

IF they get a starting RT...

they could easily cut Goof, I mean Goff

Ndukwe at RG, backed up by Alleman…. fine by me

Still would seem to leave room for another tackle.

And Runyan has some credibility. But he WOULD be out of place on this KC team, with EVERYbody expected to run, even though I’m sure they’ve toned it down quite a bit. I still think that running is the standard punishment for mental errors, though, and a big chunk of toning it down is having 53 guys who don’t do the kinds of stupid things for which touching the fence is the remedy.

My scouting of Ndukwe, though, indicated that he filled-in at RG out of necessity, rather than preference, and that RT is his natural position, whereas Alleman was the natural G. Wouldn’t it be somethin’ to see it play out just as you say, and the KC offense start registering on the ole heart monitor?

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Ndukwe

I’m thinking he was a RG that was trying to play RT this year

He started as a guard last year, I believe, but I think he was more of a tackle.

Doesn’t matter. I’ve brain-farted enough, tonight, to believe you more than my own brain cells!

Yes sir!

I agree! I saw the same thing. In fact our O-Line looked more consistent and better in sync than our defense. The D was pathetic on pass rush and anemic on speed. We can’t let that continue. There’s no rush!

3-step drop, 5-step drop

quick read and throw to the flat.

THATS WHAT I SAW.

They had to do that going against that over powering DEF. Despite play calling to not hold on to the ball – Croyle did, hold on and attempted more pump-fakes than he should have. Luckily – like you mentioned – the o-line held up somewhat. But this current make up of the o-line IS NOT A RUN BLOCKING line :(

Predictions as of 06.24.2009.

Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

not vs the Ravens they arent...

but they ran very well vs lesser defenses, see the Rams game

The game is still a little fast for Croyle.

It doesn’t look like he’s really MASTERED the mental part, to where things slow down for him on the field. But he’s a beat quicker than he was last year. He was a bit of a disappointment as a situational player, though. This was one of the few outright criticisms I heard from Haley about the Chiefs. He clearly said that Cassel would’ve processed what Haley was telling him INSTANTLY and had his eyes and mind on what the D was showing him, whereas Croyle’s mental gears were still processing what Haley said (to over-use the term for lack of a better).

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Ndukwe was solid...

playing out of position and against one of the more fierce rush OLB/DE tweeners in Terrel Suggs. At worst he provides the line with quality depth at multiple positions at best he is a slightly above average starter for this team at RT for a year or two. Signing a true RT and bumping Ike down to RG and putting Goff back in the wings would instantly help this teams weak interior on the right side.

by butchcassidy on Sep 14, 2009 9:39 PM CDT reply actions

A lot of words "interior on the right side" when a simple "Goff" would've sufficed. ;o)

Others have said, above, that Ndukwe to the inside is likely on the horizon.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
