Chiefs Coach Todd Haley Talks About 38-24 Loss to the Baltimore Ravens

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley wasn't happy with the 38-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens but he was able to see progress and encouragement in certain areas of the game.  Still though, he said simply, "It wasn't the result I wanted."

You can watch the video above.  A full transcript should be available soon but here are a few quotes from the video:

"We played the game the way that I thought we had to play it.  I made it very clear to the team that for us to win the game, it was not going to be pretty. For us to win the game or have a chance to win the game, it was going to be downright ugly.

"And really, that's the way we played until the big play they had for the touchdown on the post."

Star-divide

On the Chiefs 2/10 day on third down:

"When you’re on the sticks on a third down, you’ve got to get the first down," Haley said. "That’s just the NFL. You’ve got to get the first down and keep the drive alive."

On choosing Brodie Croyle:

"I thougth that Brodie Croyle gave us a chance to win today and that's all I've ever asked our quarterback to do.

"I don't know what his numbers were.  I know at some point there it wasn't pretty.  But he was completing the ball and, most importantly, not turning it over.  This defense, maybe moreso against any other, you can not let them get going."

On the Ravens pass happy offense:

"I gotta give credit to Baltimore.  They were a throwing machine today. They threw the ball probably a lot more than we anticipated but we gotta stop that.  We made plays defensively.

"I told them to do be ready.  There was, situationally, a plan for him.  I only got to put him in once.  It's just the way the game went."

On Thigpen entering the game:

"There were a lot of different variables for him that I don't want to get into it was the game that dictated it I would say. "

Alot of positives to build on but alot of things that need to be addressed.

People have to remember this is our first real game with this personel and these schemes against one of the best teams in the league. Now that the staff knows what they have and what they’re working with and I think we see improvement as the season goes on.

??????

Yea, I guess. We sure looked like a nine win team today…

I remember Dawson to Taylor, Kenney to Carson, and Blackledge catching the snap in his facemask. Seen it all...

Haley

I think Haley was a bit scared coming out in the first quarter… His play calling was pretty Bland. I would have been scared as crap too but he opened it up in the second half and made us look like we had a bit of O out there!

i agree

Though I think that was by design to get Croyle comfortable cuz given that D any silly plays couldve put kc in a deep hole early.

Thats how hes coached

Don’t give up the big play, hit them as the ball gets there. He told to play them that way.

Am I the only one

Who watches that video and cringes every time I hear Adam Teichers voice. It’s like he forces himself above everyone else and tries to ask 5 questions in a row, and then use the info to write crappy, and degrading stories about the Chiefs. Even Haley seems to get annoyed with him. I can’t stand the Teicher personally!

Ya I don't like him...

Hes writing to what he thinks is a national audience, not to a fan base.

What an idiot!

Thigpen had no place in the game. The big play B-more got on you was because your buddy Clancy decided to rush both safeties moron! Croyle would have done better if you let him air out the ball….oh and if you had taught your recievers to run routes past the 1st down marker! There were plenty of good sparks in the game sure…if you were watching it as a fan! How about blaming this one on coaching???

They deserved to loose

The Chiefs played sub-par today. They deserved to loose, this game confirms that they will not be heading for the playoffs this year. The coach once again was unsuccessful in making good calls and leading his team to victory. He should have attacked when he defended and defended when he should have attacked. If they dont get their coaching on track they will be in for a long season.
