Im getting sick of...

People being pessimistic about the chiefs season allready!

Matt Cassel didnt play and we still had a shot against Baltimore. If matt Cassel would have played  i highly doubt the play calling would have been so conservative in the beggining of the game were we went 3 and out many times.

Brandon Flowers also didnt play and although Legget may have shown some good plays Legget is not our starter and showed it when we saw legget give up plays that flowers would have not of.

THe defenser looked great out there. People are scrutinizing the amount of yards given up BUT the problem is the Defense was on the field basically the whole first half. The Casseless Offense was getting stuffed by a  STOUT baltimore defense.

The Offensive line although not good was adaquate and will give Cassel Oppurtunities to make plays when he returns.

Wide Reciever play was decent. Bowe made a couple of decent plays, Bradley was spectacular  minus a drop and engram played well.

The Rushing attack was obviousely horrible, but that was primarily due to baltimores defense rather than our inadaquacy.

QB play- Croyle was impressive. a good backup is nice to have.

Dline- Did a so/so job  They had times where they looked good and times where they looked not so good. give this young line time to devolep and they will be good.

Linbackers- did the best job of anyone today. D. Johnson proved his worth with that huge INT ( at lleast he didnt drop it like in the Meadow Lands last year. Vrabel was Solid as always. Hali made some Good rushing plays and forced a fumble although he still needs to work on coverage. and even Demmorio williams made a couple stand out plays

Secondary- Page and Brown were decent each makinf their fair share of plays. Legget got burned a couple times but wasnt horrible . Other than the Go Ahead TD Carr played well

Special Teams- Played decent we had that good block and good coverage, but the return game was suspect. a legget fumble wasnt good. Oh and Succop is amazing, couldnt forget that.

Overall this team has potential they played play for play with one of THEE best teams in the NFL thiers no reason they cant do that with any other team. MY prediction is we go 7-9 through 9-7

Oh and we beat Oakland 24-7

Hopefully skepticism about the CHiefs will decrease, because they played one hell of a game

Amen brother,

but what are we to do? All we can do is try & ignore & skip over the negative posts. This is the internet, which is a total escape venue for those needing to vent their frustrations without fear of repercussions or being held accountable or anything else. Try to stay with the positives & it will make this season much more bearable for their are improvements & there will continue to be improvements but Rome wasn’t built in a day & a lot of people haven’t realized that yet!

THe defenser looked great out there

Dude.

The defense gave up 500 yards and 38 points. What is great about that?

http://ajax-dj.mybrute.com

by ChiefDJ on Sep 13, 2009 5:17 PM CDT reply actions

Thats directly

Caused by our offense going 3 and out the entire first half.
When Your defense is always on the field yards will be given up.

by deflep1691 on Sep 13, 2009 5:19 PM CDT up reply actions

If our defense was good, the Ravens would have been going 3 and out too

Let’s not be so much of a homer that we’re blind to the reality of the situation. This defense needs a lot of work just like the offense does.

We did though

Get pressure, Get big plays and if you ask me our defense is what kept us in the game
i.e blocked punt for TD ( defense set that oppurtunity up) INT for 70 yards to set up touchdown. So the defense did play well by making big plays to keep us in strking distance up until the final 4 min or so

The D is bad

really bad. Tough but bad. Pass coverage is terrible. Pass rush from the D lineman is bad. When the Ravens ran the fell forward for 5 yards. The tackling was better overall but there were still some blown tackles.

On the whole I thought the D was too tentative. The played too soft. Too many times they pulled up and gave a receiver a chance to juke around them when if they had just kept running they would have arrived with the ball and prevented the first down.

I have to partially agree here

On a couple plays it looked like the d-line rushed in the backed up, not sure to drop back or keep pushing. 2nd half was better. However, it seemed our d-line was swallowed by thier O-line. The Ravens O-line was massive and VERY active. I think our D could have played somewhat more aggressive, BUT, I can’t agree that our “D is bad”. Just my opinion. I think we just looked really bad compared to what we were up against.

The defense scored ZERO points.

Why do people keep saying that???

Special teams scored seven and the offense scored seventeen.

Defense would have played fine if we could have sustained a drive. They got tired.

Wrong

the defense did nothing. Derrick Johnson made a play. The D gave up 500 yards and a whole lot of points.

I’m not saying there aren’t positives ON D. But the D is bad right now. It isn’t like the Ravens are an explosive offense.

I love the Chiefs but it is ok to admit that the team is bad. They are a bad team. I think a better team with a much better upside…and I think they will improve and this season. But they are bad now. There is no getting around that.

by Patrick Allen on Sep 13, 2009 8:02 PM CDT up reply actions

If not for the extreme length of time spent on the field in the first half

and then again in the 4th quarter, I don’t think the D would have looked so bad. The O picked it up in the 3rd quarter, and some of the 4th, but couldn’t sustain. 20% 3rd-down conversion percentage!!! That’s completely abysmal! The D was on the field for 40 friggin’ minutes. I’m not saying the D was great, but that’s expecting WAY too much of these guys. All told, having given up 500 yards, the score should have been worse than it was.

by Buck'O on Sep 13, 2009 8:19 PM CDT up reply actions

I hear alot of this today

That the D was on the field too much. If they made a couple of stops, they could have gotten off the field. Its the chicken and the egg thing. Was the defense bad because they were on the field too much, or were they on the field too much because they are bad?

And so, Craig finds himself leaping from blog to blog, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

by craig in calgary on Sep 13, 2009 8:25 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree

The defense couldn’t get themselves off the field from the start of the game. Their lack of rest is because they couldn’t do their job either.

Here's a little breakdown

- Ravens had 11 posessions
- They punted 3 times – one was blocked for a KC TD.
- We intercepted them once.
- They missed one field goal.
That’s 5 out of 11 posessions that we didn’t let them score.

I’m not completely excusing the D, but our O did nothing to help the D.
Our O’s TOP was 20 minutes to the Ravens 40.
Our O had a 20% 3rd-down conversion percentage. Retarted!
Our O had 188 total yards to their 501. OMFG that’s bad!

Again, I’m not saying the D was great, but given how bad the O did statistically, this game could have been much worse. Those last two Ravens TD drives looked like they were running over a completely worn out D. On the second to last drive, the Ravens started on their own 26 with 5:21 left and scored with 2:15 remaining. Demoralizing for a worn out D. Here’s where I thought the D lost heart. The Ravens got the ball back on their final drive with 1:34. (Where the hell was the O?) They scored again leaving the Chiefs with :34 ticks left to do something with their inept O.

Don't get me wrong

the D was by no means great, Mays stunk, Leggett stunk, Vrabel lost his jock a couple times, etc., etc.

But 40 minutes on the field is way too much to expect.

If you mean the negative comments in the open game-day threads

well, you might not want to participate in them. People are reacting on a play by play basis and let’s face it, we had a lot of bad plays.

Sure, there’s a ton to be happy about, but we lost and statistically, the game was way worse than the score indicates. You’re not going to get everyone to be all duckies and bunnies. The blog is here so fans with varying opinions can debate and discuss.

If you’re sick of the pessimism, you’re in for a looooong week! I agree with much of what you say though, there are highlights to build on.

Im just saying alot is not warrented

Its not like we lost to oakland or something lol. we played toe to toe with one of the best teams in the league. and something should be said bout that

by deflep1691 on Sep 13, 2009 5:28 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree

It was an effort that exceeded my expectations, that’s for sure. I’m pretty happy about it. You’re not going to get everyone to agree with that though. Our weaknesses were exposed (again) and we lost (again). With all of the bad and the ugly, the good was better than last year, even with Croyle in there. Now we need to get Cassel in there to establish some rhythm and I think we’ll see another O-lineman or two added and once they get a couple of games in together, we might just be ok. :)

You have to consider that my frame of reference comes from a 6-10 prediction, so I’m not sweating this much. There are however a ton of people who expect to take the division and go to the playoffs this year. :-\ just sayin’

Additionally,

The open threads are “open.” They are for how people feel at the moment.

One thing I have noticed, is that the “positive” people attack the “negative” people relentlessly. For being positive, the “positive” people have been contributing to much of the personalization of disagreements.

The negative people aren’t attacking the positive comments nearly as much. There should be no attacking at all. PERIOD.

I am pretty ashamed of the behavior in the threads today.

The negative has equal right to be aired as the positive. This isn’t a Chiefs Pumper site.

in my defense

i was definitely vocal about the negativity…. however, it wasn’t really the idea of complaining about mistakes or failures or whatever. we all do that and as chiefs fans we have definitely seen a lot of boneheaded assclowns out there mucking it up in the red and gold.

what really bothered me was the pessimism, not the negativity. at the time i was too irritated by it and too into the game to adequately voice my concern about the toxicity of some douche constantly saying we suck we suck we suck we suck and predicting 3 and outs and what not.

YES we had some seriously stinky plays, but as we all saw, there was always a chance to win this game that NOBODY gave us chance in hell to win, so NO, all hope is NOT LOST.

which of the haters predicted we’d throw up 24 points on the big bad ravens D?

O-line was TERRIBLE

Plain and simple. Those guys are not getting it done. That is the weakness of this team and any time we face a good defense, it will be exploited in a big way.

As the line starts to improve, and it will, this offense will become a lot more effective. Especially the run game.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Sep 13, 2009 6:55 PM CDT up reply actions

the O-line is so disjointed

the only way we’ll improve is with playing time. The only thing I can really say is that Croyle is still breathing.

Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!

by Buck'O on Sep 13, 2009 7:00 PM CDT up reply actions

Not so fast

although I agree the o-line didn’t look their best, the play-calling had a lot to do with it. Haley handcuffed the offense the entire first half. That shit was predictable as hell. Run, run, pass, run, run, pass. I understand he was trying to open up the running game, but shit, even the passes were little routs. He never really took the leash off Croyle. When he cut him some slack in the second half, Croyle took advantage. Yes, there were still some mistakes, but had we been as aggressive in the first half, things might have been a bit different. Also, Leggett sucks as a CB. Dude is meant for Nickel. He was giving 10-yard cushions all game, and when they only need 5 yards, that’s pathetic.

Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

by kcchiefsfan72 on Sep 13, 2009 7:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Man, I soooo agree with you.

They should have opened up the offense on the first drive. That’s the only way to beat a team like the Ravens. Croyle did a nice job today IMO.

And speaking of being sick of something...

I don’t really dig the way this community flip-flops on our guys. I know we’re all entitled to our opinions, but it wasn’t that long ago that everybody in here was posting up on how Mays is such a stud and was the reason ZT got his walking papers. All of a sudden today, the guy sucks and everybody has turned on him. My fellow fans, this is only game one of a 16-game journey. I thought we did a lot of things right today. Yes, we still need to improve drastically in many areas, but there were signs out there that point to a great team in the making. And we did this with a 2nd-string QB and a makeshift CB who got roasted all game. We WILL get better and it starts next weekend at Arrowhead…

There are some things the D didn't know about itself until playing its first game that counted.

I was definitely rootin’ for Mays. But yeah, on his biggest play in preseason – that highlight against Favre – the rest of the D gave him a 5-yard-wide lane to rush straight up the field. Didn’t see much of that today. He was one beat too late to recognize and cover Heap on Heap’s TD reception. To his credit, Mays got his hand in there, but didn’t rip it loose. Won’t be long before (and I didn’t expect to say this, at least not this early) Mays is a great all-around LB.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

1st game in 16...not

This is not our year

Yesterday was nothing more than the first game of our ‘future’ Chiefs, not just the 1st game of the season.

I strongly believe that we are pointed in the direction that will take the team, the community and the fans back to glory and respectability…sooner than later I might add but not overnight or in one season.

The Chiefs still have a lot of work ahead of them, from the front office down. Am I optimistic they will get it done? No. I am confident that they will.
