What is the biggest difference or the thing you like most about the new Regime?

I can tell you the one thing that stands out to me is the ability of Haley, Pioli, and the new staff to get the best out of our players.

Some of it is player maturity, but much of it is the coaches squeezing the players.  I know Im not the only one who was tired of seeing our former players got to other teams and be much better players than they were when they were with us.  Vonnie Holliday in Miami, Keyaron Fox in Pittsburgh, Kawika Mitchell in NY, Lawrence Tynes in NY.  The ones I can think of off of the top of my head.

Glenn Dorsey is looking like he could be a great 3-4 end.  In the pre season, he has not been easily moved.

Demmorrio Williams was threatened to be traded or cut every year, but now he is looking prety solid.

Dewayne Bowe is looking really solid so far.

We have a lot of no name players who are looking pretty good.  I know that many will say its is only pre season, and that is true.  But I remember preseason last year when no one was really looking good.

A team that can't develop players will always be limited in their success because they will be over the cap.  They have to buy players who are already established for maximum money (Redskins anyone?).  I am glad we are getting more out of our players.  This is how teams become great.  When you can turn a no name into a talent, you not only keep your team depth full, but you also create your own trade bait for extra picks in the draft.  Look at the Steeler linebackers.  Pittsburgh very seldom re-signs them, but when they become free agents, other teams who aren't good at developing players jump on them (Kendrell Bell?)

Im very happy to see this.

in the same vein

I very much like the sense of accountability that the team has now. Tat is something we’ve been lacking for years. I just think guys are more likley to leave it all on the field if there’s not always someone making excuses why they didn’t….ala herm edwards, and to a lesser extent DV

D

Speed, movement, intensity, effectiveness of the pass rush and the run defense. Can’t wait to see how it plays out with the 1’s in a complete game. I’m also curious as to how this will make a difference for the offense??

Run Defense

I feel like the new stress on fitness and intensity is going to have the biggest impact on run defense. To me it seems like it now only allows us more control of the game, but that the results will translate there more quickly. In fact, we are already seeing it. Also, I think intensity and passion make a difference with everything, but especially the run defense

Run D and Run O, both.

We wanna see the LBs have lanes where they wanna go and same for RBs. Better team concept, this time around?

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

I agree

Dorsey played in a 3-4 in college. He will adapt back again very well. These guys know what they are doing. Arizona is crying because they lost Haley. It is good for us. I worry about Cassell this weekend, even thoughI am a Croyle fan myself. I just hope he doesn’t get hurt. But I think we are on the right path, it will just take a little time.

I like that they haven't stopped

working to make the roster better. We’ll see about the coaching as the season gets underway, but up to this point, I couldn’t be a happier Chiefs fan with the constant upgrading. Admittedly, I don’t understand every move. That’s why I’m come here. AP has a good way of beating a hot subject to the point (ad nausium) where everyone typically makes up their mind with a good understanding of the issue. Love it. Love AP and love the Chiefs.

You read wrong Buck

Next week we will see all types of rumours about this player or that.
The signing of a player will not cost a full season salary. just 4 games.
so we will see Matt Jones and many others again :)

Ask me after Sunday.

I’ll have a better answer after I have seen the product on the field.

Honestly if Carl Pederson made all the moves that Pioli made, I’d probably be furious at him. That being said Pioli’s resume looks alot better than King Carls

And so, Craig finds himself leaping from blog to blog, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

I like..

that they are trying to get better, EVERY DAY. I think thats one of those things, if they are successful doing this, we are set for a good run in a year or so.

Were on the way...

We should be a scary complete team. Todd haley is one of if not the best OC in the game. I was never worried about the offense. It is coming. I never dreamed that the defense would have me this excited. How about the swarming, and the greatly improved tackling.

the only thing that makes me nervous

is why the Cardinals fired Pendergast. Have we ever figured that one out?

by kabrink on Sep 12, 2009 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think this had something to do with it

2008 Defensive Stats for Arizona Cardinals

Points per Game – 28th (Chiefs were 29th)

3rd down Defense – 28th (Chiefs were 31st)

Rushing Defense – 16th (Chiefs were 30th)

Passing Defense – 22nd (Chiefs were 28th)

In talking to Cardinals fans, they said Pendergast was very inventive and would have the defense playing extremely well in the first half of games, but often in the second half he would abandon the aggressive play calling and blitzing that was working and get really conservative.

That's all good and all but the Ds not good enough to win in itself.

The offense needs to become effective real quick if we’re gonna hang with the big boys. I can’t take another year of shitty offense.

Change...

I like the fact that nobody should get too comfortable and that they are willing to make change at the drop of a hat. I like the fact that our players have bought into this and are showing improvement. Mostly, I like the fact that they do not make empty promises. They only promise us that each and every one of them will work their asses off to make us a better team and that they do not sugarcoat shit for anybody…

Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

Kawika Mitchell in NY, Lawrence Tynes in NY....

Is Tynes even in the league anymore? And good riddance Kawika Mitchell, the dude is pathetic in pass coverage. I’ll forever hate that guy after the playoff game against the Colts in Herm’s first year. That was embarrassing.

Both of those guys seem to be having decent careers if you ask me.

If I’m not mistaken, they both got SB rings while playing in NY.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Sep 12, 2009 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Both got rings...

Tynes hurt himself the following train camp according to his Wiki page, I haven’t heard of him since really.

Kawika is now a captain for the Bills, but I’ll never forget him getting burned all day by Manning that game.

Kawika was better than the Napoleon Harris

and the one we had last year.

What I like most

Is the consistency and intensity that I’ve seen so far. The only way to turn shit into shineola is to have a good vision, explain it well, work toward it constantly, make all your moves in that direction, and not accept less than everyone working in that direction. To me, that is what I see happening.

Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

I hear you
The offense needs to become effective real quick if we’re gonna hang with the big boys. I can’t take another year of shitty offense.

Going from the Vermeil era to the last three years was torture in the worst way. I really believe Haley is going to shock us with the offense. Whenever offense is your biggest concern, and you have a great offensive mind like Haley, things are looking up. Our offense is better than we showed. We had a lot taken away in the preseason due to bone headed plays and penalties. As vanilla as we were, we were moving the ball pretty well.

Make it happen

I’m not sold on the new regime yet, there are things they’ve done that I’m not real crazy about, but one thing I like is that, at least so far, there are no excuses being made.

I remember a couple weeks ago during a practice the Offense ran a screen pass that they screwed up. Haley told them to run it again.

The offensive guys said “But the defense knows we’re going to do it!”.

Haley said something to the effect of: “So what. Make it work.”

Regardless of the other things I disagree with, I DO like this attitude because its real. When I go to work and there is a problem with a product, my boss doesn’t care about the problem. Its up to me to make things work and get the product to our customer.

Sometimes you’re going to be in situations where the defense knows what you’re doing. You still have to make it happen regardless. I like this attitude of that its not always going to be possible to keep the defense guessing. Sometimes you just have to line up and make a play.
