Cut Day: Tracking the Players that Might Interest the Chiefs
Cut day is coming at 3:00 PM (CST) today. NFL teams must be down to 75 players. Most are currently at 80.
This will be used to track the players that are cut that the Chiefs could be interested in. We'll definitely be keeping an eye on the guys that have the Pioli/Haley/Parcells connection since it seems that the Chiefs have been targeting many of those players.
I will be updating this as the cuts come in so continue to come back.
Lehr is intriguing because the Chiefs appear to have a need at the center position. He was drafted by the Cowboys in the 5th round of the 2001 draft and played under Bill Parcells for two seasons starting 18 games.
Here are his career stats.
Rams - TE Joe Klopfenstein
2006 2nd round draft pick, Klopfenstein is 6'5", 250 pounds. Chiefs appear to need tight end help.
Here are his career stats.
Broncos - WR CJ Jones
I don't think the Chiefs would be interested in Jones (again) but they did previously sign him so you never know.
Broncos - TE Jeb Putzier
Like I said above, the Chiefs appear to be looking for tight end help.
Here are his career stats.
Broncos - C Blake Scheuter
Scheuter was a 7th round draft pick of Josh McDaniels and, as we all know, the Patriots connection doesn't stray too far. The Chiefs also appear to be looking for help at center.

not sure about anyone else
but I think Lehr at 30 with 2 years starting under parcells is a better option than Niswanger…I still question if Niswanger fits as a guard better than a center.

he played for parcells?
no question – he’ll be a Chief…the trend continues…

much better size for a center
than Rudy, but why is he cut on first round?

he has been linked to steroids a couple of times

They have former all-pro Kevin Mawae at C
He was coming back from an injury but played the last two pre-season games so Tenn must figure he’s healthy
2009-10 Predictions:
1. Chiefs will win ATLEAST 6 games, which is a big improvement over 6 wins in 2 seasons
2. Succop will bring stability to the K position for the first time in years
3. Chiefs D will atleast double the number of sacks form last season
4. Cassel will be a top 15 QB
5. Todd Haley won't make a poster and jump around holding it up welcoming the Chiefs players to summer camp, I mean TRAINING camp

Anyone that has starting experience at C
I think would be an upgrade over Rudy. I think he’s better suited to play G

PFT says he's a roid
freak.
“Lehr has been linked to steroids on multiple occasions, but he has continued to find gainful NFL employment. In 2006, the NFL suspended Lehr four games for violating the league’s policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances. Thereafter, Lehr was connected to David Jacobs, who was cooperating with federal authorities and the NFL in identifying steroids users at the time he committed suicide by shooting himself. (Twice.)”

I have heard that....
I was in the Marine Corps with a guy who graduated high school with Lehr. Says he was a roid guy back then. Oh, and Lehr always tried to steal his gal. I wouldn’t want him. He seems to have bounced around the league quite a bit lately.

Swap him out for guy-check I suppose

Seems to me that Lehr might be a guy we could use.
A good center would go a long way toward fixing this line.

Lehr would be a good guy to bring into camp.
Since he can also play guard.

I'll wait and see
Who else gets cut, right now neither player excites me and I don’t want the Chiefs to just grab the first available.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
I’m a Chiefs fan Dammit and I’m damn proud of it!

I had Schlueter on my radar before the draft
thought he’d be a good value pick on day 2

Taking players from the Rams worst draft in franchise history
and maybe one of the worst drafts in NFL history doesnt seem like a good idea to me.

could work out well actually

Hmm
“Klop did not have the speed required of NFL tight ends to keep defensive backs honest on seam routes. Klop never developed as a blocker either, leading to more than one mistake or two in pass protection.”
Hows that? I think we have a few of these TE’s already.

I thought maybe
Tully Banta-Cain LB for the Patriots would be available, but now that Tedy Bruschi retired, it’s not happening.

Falcons cut Ben Hartstock
Might he be the blocker we need?
by golfbard on Sep 1, 2009 2:08 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Hartsock the Chiefs new Jason Dunn?
Here’s a good quick article on his great blocking ability…an extension of the OL. Sounds like something that could help our OL and help spring LJ and Charles on end runs. Here’s the article…

Jason Dunn was something else.
Easily one the most underrated pieces on all those teams. To have another guy that even approaches his blocking skill would be a benefit.

He was a 6th O-lineman.

fantastic

OMG! Hartstock would be one hell of a pickup
Our TE blocking is atrocious! HUGE upgrade potential there.

Hartsock & Klopfenstein!
Sign both TE & turn Hartsock into a fullback! Sounds like he’d be an excellent lead blocker & pass protector while still able to run an occasional route. Could keep Klopfenstein on the right side of formation to be a 2nd RT!
by ttownmikey on Sep 1, 2009 2:33 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Putzier over Klopfenstein
IMO
but, Hartsock sounds good to me

Maybe.
Or, you could look at it this way: If there weren’t a hole, he’d be big enough to make one.

Id love to see another guy like Dunn at TE though.

Not as big
as Refrigerator Perry used to be. He sure brought attention to himself anyway when he lined up at fullback for the bears! :)
by ttownmikey on Sep 1, 2009 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
nothing wrong with that
I’m praying for a bulldozer. someone who can block only.
that’s him.
look at the success Turner had last year… he was a big part of it

Another Center cut
Alex Stepanovich from the Steelers anyone interested?
by tomahawk44 on Sep 1, 2009 3:29 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Id like to see Lehr before Stepanovich.
Lehr can play multiple positions and got left out of the mix because they kept a former probowler and a younger backup option.

Hartsock
Hartsock signed with the Jets. Too bad, I doubt we have any TEs who can block as well as him.
