Babb grades the players after scrimmage
Babb has quite a few twitter comments about the players in today's scrimmage. His remarks about Croyle being better than Thigpen have already ignited a lot of comment. So let me through some more gas out there on the fire and give some more quotes.
kb_kcstar: Some grades from today. A's: Jamaal Charles, Glenn Dorsey (seriously), Turk McBride, Tamba Hali, Branden Albert.
kb_kcstar: B's: Maurice Leggett, Damion McIntosh, Waters, Brandon Flowers
kb_kcstar: C's: LJ, Cassel, Derrick Johnson, Bowe, Toomer, Croyle.
kb_kcstar: Everybody else ... I'd better keep my mouth shut.
kb_kcstar: A clarification: Not everybody was memorable enough to deserve a grade. I'm sure I forgot someone. The ones I included were standouts.
He also had comments about a few other players:
kb_kcstar: LB Tamba Hali has really come a long way. That guy is QUICK around the corner. This might work out after all.
kb_kcstar: Speaking of WRs, Jeff Webb did himself NO favors today by dropping several very reasonable passes.
kb_kcstar: @BDP12: Charles is too valuable to do much KR work. They'd like Quinten Lawrence to do that, but he has struggled. LJ-Charles-Battle-Smith.
kb_kcstar: Kolby Smith isn't even healthy yet. He's still on the PUP list. Charles really has been one of the Chiefs' more impressive players so far.
Some surprises on these lists of grades. Sounds like some guys showed up to play. And sounds like maybe some guys won't be showing up to play for much longer. Looks like we still have some holes to fill and some holes we thought were there may not be as bad as we thought. Of course, this is the first real contact scrimmage and there is a lot of work to do yet. Can't wait to see the game in a week so we can get a good look at just what we have here.

Succop?
According to Looney, Succop performed pretty well tonight, so I wonder why he was left out of the grading.

He was 3 for 4
Missed a shorter one but put the leg on a couple of long ones. Babb said he left some guys out.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.
yeah Babb's grading thing is a little silly
He gives grades to about 6 guys which makes it sound like all the 80 or so other guys totally suck. Then he says, “well I didn’t grade everyone”. Stupid. Non-story.
Hopes fade once again from blue to red. Go New Chiefs!!
One trait that Hali had coming into the league
was that turning-the-corner move. He’d get so low on it, his inside shoulder would be about a foot off the ground. That one move alone had me thinking Derrick Thomas. That one move was probably what got him drafted where they drafted him. But he lacked the stout for DE and putting on extra weight took something away from the phenomenal quickness he had.
Glad to hear McBride gets an ‘A’, although another report mentioned his looking lost on a Cassel scramble.
I don’t quite know what to make of Vrabel, Beisel and Thomas. Are they known quantities that have already shown that they are up to their usual standards, and the coaches need to look harder at other faces? Impression is that Studebaker is going to make the roster. Have to look at Q’s latest depth chart and make mental adjustments.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
love it
There could be almost no better news than hearing that the front 7 are getting good pressure, lead by Mcbride and Hali. IF those guys can be consistant rushing the passer, along with Vrabel, the front 3, and whoever gets sent on a blitz… all of a sudden, you have a competent defense!!!
I think Vrabel, Beisel and Thomas ARE known quantities, and they don’t have to see as many reps in training camp.
Studebaker should make the final roster… especially if he can learn to long snap!!!

I would say it’s because of how many years they have been in the league, they know what their jobs are and know how to get it done. Vet’s get some special treatments, plus with our LBers being thin, it would help to give some other guys chance to play with the 1st defense/offense.
One name I have not heard much of from camp is Carr, Flowers’ name usually comes up with a nice breakup/int, anyone heard how Carr is doing this year?
who's to say the younger guys aren't beating them out of their spots?
I wouldn’t mind it if we brought in all of these veterans and our younger guys step it up. That’s really the whole idea anyway. None of those guys are long term solutions, they’re role players to help the younger guys get better. Think about it, here you are in the middle of a youth movement and the new boss brings in a bunch of proven veterans to take your spot. I’d be pissed and probably try to step it up some.
Halis rushing ability isnt/wasnt the question...
Its doing virtually what he did in college at his college physique. The question mark was his dropping nto coverage. Nice to see McBrides name there too considering we havent heard much out of him this week.
Babb has kind of been all over the place this week with his comments but good to hear some positives. The whole “thigpen might not make this team” is ludicrous too the only way that may happen is if they deal him. Can you imagine that in Minny? Thigpen, Harvin and AP?

I guess I will quit worrying about Dorsey
and Turk, Tamba, etc., etc. (Sarcasm). But it is good to hear they all looked good. How will they do against the Texans is what I want to know.
