Report: Tyson Jackson's Contract Biggest in Chiefs History
So says Nick Wright from 610 Sports:
610 learns that the deal with DE Tyson Jackson will make him highest paid Chief in team history (on an annual basis).
The highest deal in team history would top the $28 million guaranteed to Kansas City Chiefs QB Matt Cassel last month. But...I'm not sure how that "on annual basis" caveat in the 610 Sports quote is going to settle out. Cassel's contract was a six-year deal so I'm guessing that's what they mean.
We're speculating that the deal is somewhere between $28-30 million guaranteed, which is just slightly less than the #2 overall pick Jason Smith received from the Rams.
We'll be updating this post with info as we get it.

Picking top 5 can cripple your franchise
if you don’t get it right. Look at what Russell has done to the Raiders.
That's probably only true if it's a QB
And if you have a QB already, you’re probably not in the top 5 :)
Which is just one more reason
that I’m happy we used a 2nd rounder to get Cassel
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.
They have to fix this
Rookies should not come in making this kind of money the contract amounts shout be predetermined. The new CBA better address this because Im so tired of seeing Holdouts..
South Side D
Oh I get it.
Pay him a lot b/c he’s done so much on the field already. That makes sense.
….. please not sarcasm
I agree with the sentiment
but its how it is now. Get a new CBA and fix it and I’ll be the happiest guy alive, but until then I can’t knock these guys trying to set themselves up the best they can financially. Plus its not like the owners aren’t trying to make as much money as possible with this new lawsuit coming up in the Supreme Court.

Which lawsuit is that?
I agree that the rookies and their agents, in particular, should push for as much as they can. The agent doesn’t have a deal with the NFL. The one thing he promises is to do the best job possible (within the rules) for his client. Anything less is unethical at best and probably illegal.
I think that whatever the rules are, the smartest organizations find a way to prosper on the field and financially. What gripes me is when the rules are set up so that virtue is in conflict with prudence. And for all the great turnarounds we see happen in the NFL (which says there’s SOMEthing right about the system), watching the 0-16 Lions get painted into the Matt Stafford box isn’t encouraging. I think the Chiefs did OK at making the best of a bad situation, stuck up at #3, with Jackson (and Magee).
But I think that the WORST teams in a previous season would probably benefit more from an extra 2nd-round pick, and a mid-to-late 1st-rounder…
Yeah i agree with everyone saying it needs to be fixed
but you work with the system you’re in for the moment. Good for him, but now as a Chiefs fan I expect him to earn it. Come get in camp and get going TJ!

too bad
that a 3-4 DE has to be our highest paid player
However, Tony G, the best chief of recent memory, didnt win a playoff game, and he will RETIRE a chief…thats sad.
So here is to actually winning games…Alex Magee and Tyson Jackson need to be the duo that flowers/carr are
does this mean magee gets a roomate?
Waters and Magee, Goff and Jackson
of course Niswanger get to bunk with Tyler

Nope
I used to wonder that all the time with TG. I think it’s just a little logo. Like underarmor or something.
Now that we have probably the most expensive D-Line in the league,
they better f***ing start doing something!!!
No shit Jonnyu
Those guys BETTER show up this year.

Well...
I just hope he’s in shape. He’s behind far enough as it is.
And I agree with those that say this needs to be fixed…and some sort of Rookie Contract system put in place. Every year it get worse…
But, this is the way it is NOW. I’m glad he’s signed…and that’s over with. Now get your ass to camp and get to work, Mr. Big Bucks. Ha!
So every Pioli move requires a QB or TE sacrifice?

Yeah
Darling is probably leading.
But Pioli is never that obvious :(

Yeah, it sounds like Darling is on the chopping block.
Shame too, I was hoping to see improvement out of him.

I honestly don't think he is on the chopping block...yet.
Haley praised all of the tools Darling has just 2 days ago, and then said he has to put them together.
Last year in camp, Haley told Larry Fitzgerald he was only a one trick pony and wouldn’t ever amount to anything based only on that one trick.
Running Darling off the field and not letting him return just because of a false start is similar.
I think Haley is challenging Darling because he believes in his ability. If Darling doesn’t respond, then, yes, he will be gone.

I hope you are right.
I would love to see a GREAT WR emerge from the players we have. The way I see it Darling and Bradley are the only hope we have for that other than the old guys.

I hope so too. :)
I don’t think he will be great, but it seems like Haley’s M.O. as far as motivation by intimidation.
Now that I have said that, watch him get cut tomorrow to make room for Jackson.

Haley also implied.
That Devard was whining, and that there wouldn’t be whiners on the team.
Haley didn't "not let him return"
He said “And you can STAY there (the Hunt Arena) for all I care!” Pretty much what you say, the day after you praised a guy and today he’s not concentrating, and wants to talk to you, when he NEEDS to be doing his running punishment.
HAAAAALLELUJAH!!!!
Finally got my season tickets in the mail today, so I get two bits of good news!

YESSSSSS!!!
I was upset at first because he was holding out so long, but then I saw Clark’s giant bid on West Ham United and was like, okay, you have the money and it’s not a salary cap issue, just sign the deal!!!
I still think it’s ridiculous that rookies make that much though. It needs to be redone. Sadly, like someone said earlier, that’s just how it is right now.
well
Frank Gansz drafted Neil Smith, in honor of him, I see TJ being a star(frank passed this year)
Feely is right to make those comments about crabtree, for gosh sakes the floor is set, sign the darn deal.
Glad TJ finally did
It’s a bunch of money but,
it could be worse.
TJ could have tried to play this the way CrabBaby has decided to hold the Forty Niners by the Short n’ Curlies.

Jared Allen
somebody explain to me why we couldn’t afford Jared Allen and his guaranteed 15 sacks a year but we can afford to pay some rookie the same or more and no one has any idea if he’ll be decent.

1) Jared Allen’s contract with the Vikings is bigger than Tyson Jackson’s contract
2) Allen didn’t get 15 sacks in 2008
3) I don’t think Allen will ever break 15 sacks again – if he can’t do it next to the Williams brothers, it won’t happen, and Pat and Kevin aren’t getting any younger.
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.
My bad, he had 14.5
Jared Allen is making 12 million a year, Tyson Jackson looks like he is set to make 10 million a year.
Would you pay an extra 2 million per year for one of the premier pass rushers in the NFL or would you rather pay slightly less and have no idea what you’re getting.
