Eli's deal
Is he worth it?
personaly i dont think so, yeah he took the giants to the big game and won. but i dont think he's worth no 97mil, just like haynseworth, i dont think he's worth 100mil, regardless if its a 10 year stretch. now older brother Peyton he deserves that type of contract. I think there are too many over rated players in the NFL that are asking for way to damn much. especially rookies, but thats another topic. but this is just my opinion. whats yours?

I agree...
My first thought when I read about the deal was…seriously? Highest paid QB in the league? Surely we can think of at least 5 others right now that deserve it more so than Eli…..just sayin

I Hope He's Not
That would mean the Giants made a bad deal. And as the Giants are not the Chiefs, they are free to make all the bad deals they want.
Consistency is only a value if you are not a screw up.
all this is doing is ruining the league guys are making way to much money
all this is going to do is water down the hits . create new rules to protect players. I mean I cant blame the players they are sitting back performing and getting payed hey marry chirstmas but as a fan i want to see hits i want to see action i want to see old school smash mouth football . these type of contracts are ending those days of hard nose football.
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
+1
It’s all part of a trend that I really hope gets reversed.
In todays world of Grand Theft auto and war in the middle east constantly plastered on the television, you’d think that we’d be making the move towards more violence.
"...Said he couldn't go on the American way"
Hey...
My boys both cried during their first day of tackle last night….one had a sore jaw & the other actually sliced his finger making a ridiculous hit on a guy that outweighed him by 25lbs….I was such a proud mommy.
My repsonse to their crying…suck it up & get back out there & hit the next guy harder! There’s no crying in football!!
Get the pansies off the field and bring back the guys that want to play & want to play hard. I wanna see the days the way the were so the old retired washed up players can’t talk shit about the babies we have playing now & how “back in their day……” this & that.
Thanks, I’m all worked up now….phft

they could pay eli all the money they want
but it doesnt change the fact he is gonna get owned in week 4.
I'm split about Eli's contract
His stats were fairly mediocre until 2008. In 2007 he lead the league in INTs, didn’t he? But someone on ESPN made a good point about his contract: he won a Super Bowl for NY, and it takes a certain kind of athlete to survive the backlash from NY sprts fans. He reponded well this last year. I think he deserved some legit compensation (although 97mil does seem a bit much).
I’m afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands. -Arrested Development
That $100 million they aren't spending on the OTHER 52 guys.
I always look at the Broncos’ SB seasons. Terrell Davis makin’ peanuts. Elway reworking his deal to bring in Neil Smith on the defensive side. Those are the kinds of things that make champions in this league.
If you’re in the offensive backfield and you’re making more than $5 million a year, you have no right to bitch about any other position on the team letting you down! And I’m about ta puke about the rules changes in place to protect the QBs. The likelihood of your QB going down to injury is the risk you take, and is the one thing I didn’t like about guaranteeing Cassel $28 million in 3 years before seeing more-than-just-Goff-and-Ghiaciuc added to the o-line.
Of course, that's the marketplace in which the Chiefs find themselves.
Interesting (and encouraging) to see the Chiefs come in pretty good on quality versus price, i.e., VALUE at QB, relative to the majority of teams reaching for upside and often paying more for rookies than the Chiefs are paying for a player who’s already served his clipboard time and started for a year at bargain-basement prices.
So, for every reason I don’t like the Cassel deal, announcements about Eli’s and other QB’s ridiculous contracts make me feel a little better.
