He is a real “hard ass” and I wouldnt want him as my boss but it looks thus far as he is what the organization needed after Herm….
...( . )( . )...(___/{i}\___) ...(____X____)......oh and football....

I could work for Him
But then I’m a bit of a hard ass when I’m running my kitchen, for some reason they keep calling me Ramsey Ahh no matter as long as the food gets out and it’s Right dammit.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?

This is my first non-"not sure" vote for Haley
I like what I’m hearing out of camp. I still have questions about some of the decisions he has made, but I’ll roll with the good feeling that comes with the start of Training Camp.
Some said earlier, that lots of new coaches come in and say the right things, then lose like bitches. Let’s hope Haley’s not one of them.

What decisions....
are you talking about?
by chicks_love_chiefs on Aug 6, 2009 1:53 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
A lot of the staff choices and the
switch to 3-4 immediately come to mind.
I don’t like the way the Waters situation was handled if reports are true, and I’m glad it seems to be a non-issue at the moment.
I think we should have 2 kickers at camp
That’s just a couple of them. I realize Haley knows more about football than I can begin to, but so does Herm.

I think Waters was the one who was out of line...
But thats just my opinion

I think they both were
and I would expect the Coach to take the high road.
by NJ Chiefs Fan on Aug 6, 2009 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
And he DID take the high road.
He didn’t engage in a pissin’ contest in the press. Just said a few positive things about expectations and didn’t say anything negative about Waters.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Tim Krumrie still having a job is the only one I still can't swallow

I don't like a straight switch to a 3-4 defense...
and thankfully we aren’t going there. Haley said that he is more comfortable with the defense as is the coaches. If they are all more comfortable running a 3-4 style defense it only makes sense to run a 3-4 defense.
I just hope that they narrow down the playbook tremendously as Pendergast is known to have the deepest 3-4 playbook in the league. Deepest doesn’t turn into wins, but keeping it simpler should.

Love it!
Bob Gretz has a great take on Haley’s Training Camp…
Personally, I love (its a man-love sort of thing) the hard-nosed approach to training camp. With the $ most of these guys are making, I want the head coach to be in their face, holding them accountable for their performance…
If anything, my respect for Haley has only grown since camp started. Great job, keep up the great work Todd!!!
You are what your record says you are!

Feeling better now...
At first I was really hesitant about him but since training camp I’ve become quite confident.
I trust him enough to give him a chance.

I approve but..
I am a little thrown off that he will not call his own plays. I guess im just disappointed. I think behind the scenes Haley will have his own twists on the offense anyhow.
by davidhusker on Aug 6, 2009 1:05 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Gailey is a more than competent play caller with head coaching experience.
His offenses have been in the top ten almost every year he has been an OC. He took a Cowboys team to the playoffs that was over the hill as their HC.
Between he and Haley, we can expect GREAT things from this offense. Haley will still be the one coming up with weekly game plans. It will just be Gailey calling the plays and most importantly, it will be up to the players to execute and from what I am hearing out of camp…THEY WILL EXECUTE.
by Chiefsfan1970 on Aug 6, 2009 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Between Gailey and him,...
there’s enough offensive brainpower in the trust. I don’t want him micromanaging the offense at gametime. If Gailey’s up in the booth, there will probably be situations where on-the-field reports from players will result in Haley sticking his oar in, from time to time.
Offensive “guru-dom” is often the product of being blessed with talent. We won’t know 4 sure if the label’s deserved until and unless the KC offense turns it around, and there were positions of need where they didn’t really go to the well that bear watching, like OL and WR, and, to a lesser extent, LB.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

When you have a soft, mentally weak, no accountability Head Coach like Herm, who fosters that attitude throughout the team, and it fails, you follow it up with the hardest hard ass imaginable. That’s what they’ve done, and it’s basic psychology. It will definitely work. Haley will be an outstanding Coach here. Much like Parcells or Marty S, or Coughlin though, he might not be a 10 year coach in any one spot because players get tired of that same voice. It’ll be up to Haley to adjust if he wants longetivity in any one place. I’ll worry about 10 years fom now after he hopefully has delivered a couple of championships and a steadily competitive team.

Good points about the long-term, dablue.
You’re a bit starry-eyed on the short-term, although one is pretty sure that the ONLY hope for a change in outcomes is to change your modus operandi.
Haley’s already shown with his Bowling Night and Early Release from OTAs that he understands how to leaven the drill sergeant with the “Let’s not forget we’re all on the same side!” guy. That’s something Tom Coughlin only learned a year or two ago after years as HC – his routine was definitely wearing thin on his players.
Haley had to get after it hot and heavy to change the culture. With a culture in place, one hopes that he won’t have as much to bitch about every day, and catch people in the act of doing things right more often and takin’ names ass less often. I’m very optimistic that Haley is about 10 steps ahead of MY ass on thinking these sorts of things through, and having a plan in place to accomplish what he wants to accomplish.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

There's really no reason to dissaprove of what Haley is doing....
at least until we see how we play on Sundays.
by chicks_love_chiefs on Aug 6, 2009 1:55 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Oh, we camp-followers usually DO find things to bitch about, if we see 'em, and...
… over the years, we haven’t missed much. I’ve more often found myself defending the KC org than otherwise, but every little chink in the armor is pretty much pried open by the Jaws of Life in the hands of bloggers, and dissected ad infinitum.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Just as the polls show, my own liking of Haley is growing strongly
I love in camp that he is instilling hard nosed discipline, tough conditioning, accountability, and talks of wanting a physical defense. And, even amongst all of that he sure seems to remain a teacher, which is fantastic.
I like that he won’t be calling the plays. Let him concentrate on game/clock/coach mgmt.
Hopes fade once again from blue to red. Go New Chiefs!!

Haley's pretty much done everything I'd want so far in a head coach
I’m afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands. -Arrested Development

Haley as head coach
I just returned from 4 days in River Falls. The dominant theme of first impressions was that Haley runs the camp with an iron fist. He is loud and critical most often with the receivers and qb’s- urging Cassell to show more energy taking snaps and making throws. He has ripped #80 loud and angrily on several occasions. Seems to like #11 Wright. Pretty much left Bowe alone.
Haley calls out all the drills and specifies whose doing what on which field. He demands that the coaches run the drills as he wants them not necessarily as they want them and he asks (occasionally) for them to modify the drill or the personnel in this or that situation. He talks to the coaches loud and publicly as well as the players. He spends 90% of his time with the offense and 90% of that with the 1st and 2nd qb’s and recievers. He is very involved with special teams as well- demanding perfection in all special situations which he explains to the whole team in depth as to why he’s wanting to do it this particular way.
The tempo is always upbeat and fast fast. He urges them to move faster between drills and between plays in order to keep their energy up and the number of plays up in the allotted time for each drill.
The penalty box over in the northwest corner is a pit of shame. Players crawling around on all fours or pulling heavy blocking buoys hand over hand by 50 yards of heavy chain. You better be really hurt to want to be there or you have done something wrong with your weight or conditioning. No free rides at his camp.
By the fourth day it was clear team was focused, much sharper and quicker, more energy, far fewer drops, enthusiasm, and in much much better condition than in years past.
Hope he wins 5 or 6 games this year. Chiefs will be back under Haley or they are permanently doomed to the bad Kharma pit of the past 35 years or so.

A sign of great generalship.
Danger of backfiring, but if you’re The Man, these (stepping on a position coach in practice) are the kinds of things that will happen, if you’re single-minded about what kinds of things need to happen, if you’re right. But you see these things happen with coaches who flop, too. I don’t think there’s any one way to measure whether it’s working or not, sitting on the sidelines, until things play out in regulation.
So is Zach Thomas in the pit of shame? My impression of his and Mike Vrabel’s time out was that it was more a matter of keeping from wearing them down.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

This is the first month i have voted yes instead of not sure. I am starting to believe in Haley. I was skeptical at first but now after hearing what some of the players are saying and hearing what he is about i think i am really going to like Haley. Lead us to the promise land Mr. Haley.

Go Coach!!!
I applaud Haley’s commitment to getting the team back into just that… a TEAM! Too many years of “Aww, it will be alright Billy.” mentality has taken the proud ways of the organization away. As a professional, Darling should have studied his playbook and taken it more seriously. The team wants it, the coaches want it, but most of all the fans expect it… I am looking forward to a much improved team and very much improved play.
