WTF Moments
Let me start off by sayng that I am on the West Coast and just finished watching a recorded version of the game. Also, I am 100% sure that all of you know what the acronym in the title of this post spells out. Well, tonight folks, I had plenty of these moments. I've done a lot of reading, and posting, on all of the fanposts and headlines on the main screen. This game was disheartening for me for a number of reasons. I can honestly say that we did have our moments, and there were plenty of them, but that's not what this post is about. That said, I won't go running around screaming that our beloved Kansas City Chiefs are doomed for the year either. I'm just a litlte baffled at some of the stupidity that transpired tonight. After the jump, I'll share my WTF Moments and eagerly await feedback from my fellow AP Tribesmen.
- Ryan Succop missing from 28 yards. WTF? That is supposed to be a chip shot, is it not? Yes folks, I about filled my shorts because, just before the kick, I was thinking that Das Boot would be money from that range.
- The atrocious play of the offensive line. WTF? None of the tampon strings were any good. The first string showed signs of life, but is still a work in progress. The biggest problem I see with this is, even if we upgrade talent from waiver fodder, the answer will not be that simple. It will still take time for said starters to play a few games together before they can gel and become a cohesive unit. If that is the case, my worst fear may come to fruition. And that is, that we will be in deep kuso by the time our bye week hits.
- Copper and Darling were our starting WRs yet again. WTF? Has the coaching staff not seen the play of these rummies in the first two preseason games? Terrance Dropper doesn't even deserve to don a Chiefs uniform, let alone run with the 1st team. Good thing Darling got injured, because I'm not so sure I could have taken watching him an entire half.
- Thigpen's throw to the TE. WTF? He had all day back there and his man was wide open. All he had to do was toss a relaxed pass and he overthrew it by a mile. It wasn't even close, folks. That is the type of pass that should be a gimme.
- Larry Johnson's slow starts. WTF? Yeah, some of you may respond with a WTF right back at me, but bear with me. I know his stats showed that he ran well, but he just didn't look like he was going full throttle. I know the OL was shaky, but there were several plays where he looked like he was walking to the line of scrimmage after being handed the rock. I expect more from a "changed" man who is supposed to be a poster child for the new offense. I dig Larry and think he's the goods, but he needs to show me more.
- Amani Toomer's wheelchair not getting back to the line in a hurry-up offense. WTF? If you need a new wheelchair, I'm sure Haley will budget for that. I know the man's got skills, but if there's no giddy-up in his gallop, then get the duck outta fodge. We want folks who are going to go full-bore at all times. Take a couple tokes off the oxygen tank and get your ass back in there.
- Tyson Jackson's lack of awareness. WTF? He turned around for some unknown reason, turned back around, got set, and stayed set even after the ball was in play. Pull your head out son, you're earning a shitpot of money as the #3 overall draft pick. Let's try playing like we deserve that contract, huh?
- Coverage. WTF? Was it just me or did they seem to have an open receiver on every play? It didn't matter what type of defense Pendergast called, they had at least one man open. In most instances, I saw 2 or 3 running around with no red jersey within five to ten feet.
- 3rd Down Conversions. WTF? This was huge in this game. No matter what we ran at them on 3rd down, we could not convert to save our asses. It's like somebody from our side was faxing our plays to Mora before we ran them. Now, I can blame this all on Thiggy, because his performance was horseshit Wang, but he cannot shoulder the entire blame. I put a lot on him, but with no blocking, no QB would be able to run a successful offense.
- 3rd Down Conversions. WTF? No, it's not a repeat. I'm talking getting off the field on defense. This game gave me flashbacks to last year's defense. We hold them tight, push 'em back or give up minimal yards on 1st and 2nd down and then POW, right in the mouth. They just seemed to execute on 3rd down rather proficiently.
I'm sure there are many, many more WTF moments, but I will give you all an opportunity to post some of your own. Yes, this is preseason, but it's getting down to the wire. We need to be more consistent. From last week to this week, we actually failed in key areas. Here are some of those areas of failure.
First Downs: Last Week - 22 vs This Week - 14
3rd Down Conversions: Last Week - 8-15 vs This Week - 1-10
Time of Possession: Last Week - 34:34 vs This Week - 23:21
Points: Last Week - 13 vs This Week - 10
Neither week produced wins, but we need to show continuous improvement if we expect to be ready for Baltimore.

I think the site needs a new rule...
of no posting about losses until at least the morning after. This is now about 7-8 frantic, panic, non-cool headed responses to a preseason loss. I’m scared to see what happens around here when we lose in the regular season when it counts and when we dont have 30+ players playing that wont have a job next week.

The Rule
Good point, but when the “GENIUS” is made you’re GM & you still have basically the same o-line playing the same way it’s hard not to get bothered.Ionly care some about pre-season games but Ray & co. will be up very soon & If I were the qb I’d be pretty scared right now.I believe Cassel is writing some of these articles.lol.Good post KCCfan72.

You
can’t throw this many new players, coaches , and schemes into a pot and expect greatness for a while. We are an expansion team and probably won’t see the playoffs for two three seasons.

Right now I will settle for some wins period!!!

New?
New coaches, new schemes, same old problems. I believe Haley said a bunch of guys off the street could win 2 games. Well, he’d better put some gas in the bus because he’s got some traveling to do.

I like it Bro...Westcoast needs no rules...We have to watch too!
No OL moving forward…only backwards! QB’s on the run…Tyler T looked horrid…Charles made things happen on his own, and no drops…DL put NO pressure on anyone…Only 1 wideout, apart from Bowe, looked good and should be on this team…Any guesses? All in all having this game on DVR is the only way we can really watch this team! We can then fast forward the painful parts! Let the young kicker be…he will get better…and where is a blocking TE? Please find one…we need all the help we can get! Finally…can we please cover SOMEONE, ANYONE on pass plays????

Dude
what the hell are you even talking about? Did you watch the game or just pretend that you did? Copper did NOT start. In fact, I’m not sure he even played at all. It was Bowe and Darling running with the first unit until Darling got injured. Larry Johnson had a pretty decent game and the run blocking by the first unit line was pretty solid in the first half overall.

If he saw the same feed I did...
That’s probably the network’s fault. The coverage was rediculously poor. Before the game they were announcing the Raider’s vs. Seahawks game was upcoming (despite the fact that the Raiders game was on just prior), and in the line-ups at the beginning, Copper was shown vice Bowe. I’m guessing they just took the depth chart we all know is crap and used it, rather than bothering to actually look at the field and see who is there. The commentators were crap, had no idea who any of the Chief’s were, with the exception of Bobby Engram.

Commenting
on what was aired at the beginning of the game. It had both Copper and Darling listed as starting WRs. I didn’t see Copper in the game either, but I’m going off of what was listed for starting lineups that flashed up on the NFLN. Why the fuck would I pretend to watch the game? And I said LJ’s stats looked good and he was gaining yards. My problem was not his yards total, but lack of momentum in carrying the ball. Did you read this post or just pretend to read this post?
Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce

RE:Dude
What? Cooper is not the answer! Darling looked good…going in motion! Did you notice the biggest run gain was Charles, and he had to run all over the field, breaking tackles to get it done? Our OL looked good because the DL pushed them back past our RB’s! What were you watching…or smoking?

What?
Who the hell is Cooper and who said Cooper was the answer? I did notice Charles with some good runs, but did I say anything about Charles? And you just contradicted yourself. You said that our OL looked good, yet claim that Charles had to run all over the field breaking tackles to get it done. Dude, I’m not smoking anything but if I were, I’d take some of what you’re smoking…
