Arrowhead over Cowboys' Stadium
The recent episode with the hanging screens at the new Cowboys' stadium makes me all the more grateful for the open air above the field at Arrowhead in Kansas City. Jerry Jones seemingly wants to leave the screens in place to create a sort of obstacle for the punting team to work around. One ESPN writer compared Jones' vision for the hazard to a miniature golf course. Jones' motive for leaving the screens as is bothers me because no other stadium in the NFL presents an obstacle requiring teams to adjust the mechanics of their game around.
Jones knows the issue will draw all types of publicity, but my opinion is that it makes the Cowboys’ stadium a sub-NFL caliber stadium. Jones thinks he is adding to an attraction, but he is actually decreasing the level of competitiveness within the stadium.
This, all the more, makes me hope that the Cowboys lose more games at home this year than they win. Most importantly, I hope the Chiefs show up in October and beat the Cowboys at Arrowhead, a real stadium where NFL players can play football and not punt around a TV screen.
Here's an article explaining that the NFL will allow the screens to remain as is for the 2009 season: http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d81234987&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true

If Jones doesn't fix it
then the league should implement forced rules for playing in Dallas that doesn’t benefit the Cowboys at all. anytime a Cowboy punt or kickoff hits the scoreboard, other team starts at the 40. if the opposing teams kickoffs or punts hits the scoreboard, Dallas is placed at their 15.
i know it wouldn’t happen and it shouldn’t happen. but the fact that Jones KNEW this was going to be an issue and can’t find the scratch or humility to raise that monster another few feet, come on! what’s another million or two when dealing with a billion dollar stadium?
Well the scoreboard was to league specifications
It’s the NFL that dropped the ball here, not Jerry Jones.

and jerry jones
the man that has made his name via the NFL can fix it.
besides, how many teams have a scoreboard of that nature that could have met league specs? seriously.
The League/Goodell came up with maybe the most ludicrous rule ever implemented in the NFL to deal with it.
They are going with a “Do Over” rule. Theres so many things wrong with this idea that honestly I dont know how they think this is a viable solution. Jones needs to anty up the 2 Million and fix the scoreboard.

They'll get plenty out of that scoreboard.
Bowl Games? World Cup? It jumps to the top of the list for several different events just because it’s got a GIANT SCREEN.
And it’s not like they won’t sell out the games. All this attention has done nothing more than sold tickets and primetime TV spots.
They can raise it. The NFL looked at it, and decided not to. It is what it is. And if the NFL takes it down, they can bring it to my house. =)

It’s not an issue of selling out games, attracting other events, or taking it down. They need to raise it so that it does not disrupt the game of football.
But it IS that issue.
That’s why it’s there, and that’s why the NFL will continue to let it be. I mean, they instituted a new rule for the situations when a punt WILL hit the scoreboard.
The NFL is going to let it happen because it creates media for it. How many newsstations showed the clip of the Bengals punter drilling the bottom of it? Lots. When it dies down and people stop covering it, maybe they’ll move it up.
For the record, I’m not condoning the board. Personally, I think the engineers and inspectors that were hired by the NFL to make sure there were no snafus in the design/construction/implementation process should be fired. However, It’s not on Jerry Jones. Jerry did what he needed to do to make more money, which is one of the (potentially very) few things he does well.

Jerry Jones = Attention Whore
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
I’m a Chiefs fan Dammit and I’m damn proud of it!
Maybe...
I’ll bet if we were privy to meeting minutes during the design/construction process the issue was raised by the construction and/or design team. The board was placed at the hieght stipulated by the league, and the seating pricing designed around that.
The thing that doesn’t make sense to me is why would the league attorney’s write language stipulating a hieght, and not generic language about avoiding interfering with play.

commisioner
says that it can remain the way it is this season because it is within their regulations. They will have a re-do for any kicks that hit the screen throughout the season. They’ll allow for the use of replay if called for by the replay assistant. If the refs don’t see it, then the coach can use a “challenge” which bites.
But I bet they’ll make the changes after this season…isn’t super bowl going there in 2 years? Can you imagine the controversy involved during the big game if balls hit the screen? Wow, somehow I know you perverted souls will make something dirty out of that…..

It just shows
that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys shouldn’t be allowed to build buildings. practice facilities that collapse, billion dollar stadiums that can’t ensure clean kickoffs or punts. so far, FAIL.
For real
Jones should consider finding new contractors

They are going to move it up
But just for a U2 concert in October. During the Titans/Cowboys game the question was whether Jerry would just leave it there after the concert or install a system that raises and lowers the scoreboard when needed. The day after that, Jerry came out and said that the board “technically” met the league specs and that he wouldn’t move it for football.
What I want to know is how in hell does a U2 concert require that much vertical space, and why is that acceptable but not football?
I actually heard U2 was going to pay to have it done.

i wouldnt wanna be Bono....ha ha ha
let’s hear it from the people who know Bono best.
“He’s totally anal,” says Tina Bono, Steve’s wife of seven years.
“He’s always been a neatnik, just like his father,” says Cornelia Bono, Steve’s mom. “He’d rather be on the cover of GQ than SPORTS ILLUSTRATED.”
“There’s nobody who can starch a shirt like Steve Bono,” says former NFL receiver Michael Young, who was Bono’s roommate at UCLA. “He is incredibly…. What’s a better word for anal retentive?”
Sorry, there is none. Mr. Bono, how do you plead?
“That’s what I am,” Bono says. “I’m not going to lie about it.”
(thx to SI for this)
lord...please give us more wins this season!
Haha, I was referring to this guy

It’s spelled Douche, not guy.

The title of this post had me thinking...
The Arrowhead symbol lighting up the sky over the Cowboys stadium like the bat symbol.
But, yeah…Arrowhead over anything. This is not a question that any Chiefs fan could objectively answer otherwise to.
