The Kansas City Chiefs are #1 in the NFL defensively on 3rd downs allowing just 6 first downs in 24 attempts (25%)by opponents so far in the preseason. The KC D is tied for 2nd with several teams with 4 forced fumbles. They are also tied for fifth in first downs allowed in a game with 16. Although the regular season is yet to begin, these are stats we may want to keep an eye on as we move forward into the season.
I should also note that this year's D has significantly improved it's run defense. They are allowing fewer yards per carry than last year's D in preseason 3.5 ydspc vs. 4.9 ydspc respectively.
According to my recent Fanpost poll, the fans are not ready to attribute a name for our new defense until they prove themselves. While these stats are not enough to change that, IMO, it sure beats the league leading statistics we had last year! It's also a good sign that we're beginning to do some things right.
