Chiefs Training Camp Update 8/27
And the updates are coming in for the Kansas City Chiefs lone practice today as they alternate between two practices and one.
Here are few highlights:
- Derrick Johnson is still out with an unknown injury
- The Chiefs are actively game planning for the Seahawks in practice
- Ryan Succop kicked a football into the woods
More updates, after the jump.
General stuff
- The Chiefs worked on more goal line and short yardage situations, responding to last week's game against the Vikings. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Chiefs morning practice was mostly geared toward getting ready for Saturday's preseason game against Seattle. It's the most extensive work they've done in the preseason preparing for an opponent. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)
Offense
- QB Brodie Croyle was looking very in sync with his receivers today. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Brodie Croyle was also working with the scout team (BobGretz.com)
- WR Dwayne Bowe had a nice TD grab, prompting Todd Haley to say, "That’s being smart and disciplined. Good job." (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- No. 2 offensive line, from left to right: Damion McIntosh, Tavares Washington, Wade Smith, Andy Alleman and Ikechuku Ndukwe (BobGretz.com)
Defense
- LB Demorrio Williams filled in for Derrick Johnson (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- LB Monty Beisel had a pick underneath during 7 on 7. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Brandon Flowers knocked down at least three passes during the practice, including running step-for-step with WR Quinten Lawrence, maybe the fastest player on the team. (BobGretz.com)
Special teams
- K Ryan Succop knocked a football into the woods, after it sailed through the uprights. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Ricardo Colclough returned some kicks. He hasn't done this in a few years (BobGretz.com)
Injuries
- Held out today were LB Derrick Johnson, LB Zach Thomas, TE Jake O’Connell and RB Kolby Smith (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- No information on Derrick Johnson's injury, but since he's lifting weights and doing cardio in the rehab area, it can't be too serious. (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)
- Zach Thomas was not on the field at all for the second day in a row (BobGretz.com)

JacinB heard
Doug Gottlieb (I think an ESPN radio guy) say Jarrad Page has earned his Arrowhead. Haven’t been able to confirm it yet.
But, yes JacinB, if it’s correct, then you are most certainly getting a H/T.

+1
Based on his play last pre-season game I’d say he has earned his arrowhead.

I think Mr. Irrelevant
is going to be very relevant for this team.
"I can only imagine what it is going to be like in that town if we are fortunate to build a winner. You win there, you can sense that it would be something really special." - Todd Haley
I LOL'ed
When I read the quote he kicked the ball in the woods….what a nice tease. :D
As long as it passes thru the uprights on its way to the woods..
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
I am so stoked about Succop

I really
like what I read about Bowe. His comments on its not just recieving, its running great dummy routes, and blocking…I love that…Hes finally getting it…
and yeah Succop deserves his Arrowhead…hes been as impressive as Crosby was as a rookie.
Also taking notice
of how Haley is keeping his players from making an injury worse. Thus far they have done an excellent job staying healthy. Not just luck, of course it requires some, but its very thought out.
I hope that's across the board.
I know Dorsey has been dealing with a chronic lower leg problem. If you’re right, then just the fact that he’s been in every practice for awhile, now, says he’ll be OK. That’s pretty HUGE. (And so is Dorsey).
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Speaking of Page
Wouldnt he be a candidate to get a new contract? I thought KC still needs to spend well over 12 million to hit the min
great call
i’d love them to start locking up some of next years free agents. haley/poli have seen these guys play now, and we need additional $$$ towards this year’s cap.

There is a great article
on yahoo sports about the rebuild not sure if it was posted, prob was, but that is where the bowe comment came from, and I really think he is poised for a ridiculous season….you can tell hes lost some of the extra weight he had just from looking at him…cant wait to see the difference in a full real game.
Derrick Johnson continues to dissapoint
What a let down. Really pissing me off.

Because he's been a ho hum linebacker.
If they only played defense in the Big12.
Aint got a beach and I see no mountains, landlocked loungin' in the City of Fountains.
Could have been Lofa Tatupu
Aint got a beach and I see no mountains, landlocked loungin' in the City of Fountains.
Except that Lofa was a late 2nd early 3rd round prospect...
And we arent the Raiders picking people 2-3 rounds ahead of where they should go.

Couldve also been...
Aaron Rodgers or Marcus Spears or Michael Roos or Justin Tuck….

Maybe DJ is just emulating him
since Tatupu isn’t practicing, neither is DJ. ;)

With him it's always something
We’re to the point where he should not piss a damn play in practice and be what Mays is to the team this year. Mays has impressed everyone. Time for DJ to step up and back up all his talk. Patience is running THIN.

however piss could be sprinkled into there when talking of his YO-YO play on the field

In the preseason preview for the Chiefs/Hawks game they have Dorsey listed as unlikely to play?
Supposedlt a leg injury but his name hasnt shown up with the guys not practicing. Anything to this that anyone else has seen?

interesting
Glenn Holt released from Vikings, I always thought he had untapped talent…also a KR, maybe he gets a look
Waiting to see what they do with Renaud...
Thats a guy that I’d love to see released and jettisoned to KC.

Anyone see that
our old friend Eric Warfielf got his 4th DUI ?!? Said he’s lost his liscense for 15 years and is gonna do 2-3 years in the slammer. What a jackass!

I remember thinking FINALLY, that BIG corner with great speed.
And the kid just seemed to top out well short of his potential.
This DUI stuff was reported some days ago. You can find it in the AP archives, I bet.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
A couple of days ago, didn't Haley yell at DJ " you won't be won't this field for long," or something to that effect?
Seems to me that he is being held out a la Bowe. It accomplishes a couple of things: (1) It is a wake-up call. (2) Makes Bowe fell not-so-singled out.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
