Chiefs Training Camp Update 8/26 AM
The Kansas City Chiefs practiced indoors this morning because of rain and lightning storms. We're a little light on the defensive updates. Mr. Gretz and Mr. Looney are covering us today (and about every day during camp).
Here are some general highlights:
- The Chiefs practiced outside for about 15 minutes before it was moved inside
- Pollard and Pendergast got into over something
- The two new Chiesf worked with the second team
Lots more after the jump.
General stuff
- Tempers flaring: Pendergast pulled Pollard from a drill and the safety yelled at the coordinator. Haley waved him off (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)
- The team is in full pads (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)
Offense
- The WRs went one-on-one against the DBs and caught aout 60% of the balls (Bob Gretz at CBS Sports)
- Damion McIntosh took second team reps at left and right tackle (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- The two new Chiefs, Ndukwe (RT) and Alleman (RG), worked with the second team (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Working with the first team, Devard Darling made a nice play on a ball that Jarrad Page tipped. Darling kept his feet in bounds for the catch (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Ashley Lelie showed his speed on a deep route down the left sideline (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- In blitz period, Bowe helped Cassel by catching three of his four balls (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Backed into their own end zone, Larry Johnson jumped over the pile for about a five yard gain then came running out of the pile as if he was off to the races. Cassel asked Haley if the drill was over (since he thought LJ wasn't down and scored) and Haley said, "Second and five!" (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Backed in their own end zone, on a swing pass, Cassel hit Jamaal Charles for a huge gain that might have even gone to the house. (Josh Looney at the Mothership)

Oh wow
Remember when Mcintosh was all pissy about having to move to RT and learn RT….moving him back to LT as a potential backup…love it…pink slip on its way…
That new guy with the tough name…ill call him…Scary guy, seems to be a nice RT candidate.
I guess but he's a 3rd team player on the Dolphins roster...
I hope he works out, but a “nice RT candidate,” I don’t know.

It's all relative.
First, we’re not the Dolphins, so their worst could be our best. Plus, a sack of potatoes could probably play RT better than the crap we have.
RT
He was a starting G last year when the 1st stringer went out with injury. They moved him to RT to see if he could play there as well. He was 3rd string because its new to him. He might not make it at RT but he would fit right in at G if something happens.

Love the swing pass to Charles
That is great way to utilize his skillset. You never know when he is gonna take that to the house. Now, if he can just hold on to the ball.
Mike Brown Interview on ESPN1000 Chicago 11:45 am CDT
Paraphrased: Says he was brought here (to KC) for depth reasons, mentioned possibly playing special teams. Hopes to make an impact. Said Haley is intense, in your face coach, (Haley) wants the team to be tough.
Lot of talk about his departure from the Bears D, his 9 year Bear career…holy crap, gotta love Bear fans…“2001 Bears vs. 2006 Bears, who wins?”, was asked. Talk about your prototypical meathead fans…
Lol

I was hoping they would say something about Thigpen.
because if the trade is really going to happen, you would think they would have set him out to keep him from getting hurt.
Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

I just hope Pendergast wont get Pollard'd like Brady did last year
Pollard would definetly get in trouble for that, maybe even fined.
Cry Havoc! And let slip the Chiefs Defense of War!!!
This Ricky Price photo never gets old to me
it’s like “Mannn, I wish I could make this team…”

Rookie TE injured...again
I know that the 3rd and 4th TE position aren’t of HIGH importance but…
O’Connell was held out of the start of camp with an injury (torn calf), missed several days during camp, and now has a boot on. Questions about his durability?
I had the privilege of getting up to camp for one glorious day and he was getting blown into the backfield consistently while the other rookie TE (Crabtree) was flattening stand- up DEs and OLBs. And after reading his bio, significant special teams player in college.
Again, I know that neither is a significant part of the offense, just thought i’d raise the point.
yeah...
O’Connell was supposed to be super athletic, and a special teams maniac.
But, he needs to be on the field to show that.
I look for (and Pray For) the Chiefs to make 1 or 2 moves to pick up TEs when roster cuts come down.
I would be perfectly happy if they got one guy that was a bulldozer of a blocker, even if he had stone hands.
"I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
