Chiefs Make a Trade with Dolphins for G/C Andy Alleman
Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli didn't sway too far from the family tree in this one. The Chiefs traded with the Miami Dolphins to acquire guard/center Andy Alleman.
This is the second time since Pioli's hiring on January 13th that he has made a trade with his father-in-law, Bill Parcells. The Chiefs traded up to acquire TE Jake O'Connell on the second day of the draft.
The compensation has not been disclosed. My guess is a late round draft pick considering Alleman has been running with the Dolphins' third team offense.
Adam Caplan of Scout was the first to report the move.
This actually is not the first time the Chiefs have tried to acquire Alleman. He was cut by the Saints after being a third round draft pick in 2007. The Dolphins were first on the waiver wire and snagged him on August 31st, 2008.
But, according to the NFL Network, six other teams put in a claim for him including the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and New York Jets.
He started four games last season at left guard and appeared in 11 more.
It's presumed he will compete with others to back up Mike Goff at right guard.

Yes!
I hope the draft pick wasn’t anything significant, but consider me excited to simply get a new player in a position of need.
I'll hand it to Pioli
he doesn’t mess around. I like that he doesn’t wait around when he thinks there is a problem.
D-Bowe, Mark Bradley, Bobby Engram and Turtle. Four Chiefs WRers. 4 Pro Bowlers.
yeah...
I went there to look him up before the story had even left the fanshots. He was “still a Dolphin” according to them. Read a few stats, then hit “edit” and it had already been changed to Chiefs. Hardcore wiki users don’t mess around.
On a hardly related note, this guy was born exactly one day before me.
What I like about the guy is that many describe him as a tim guy, this what people said when he came out of college
6’4" 305; 5.07; 27 reps
Explosive and athletic with a lot of potential…hard worker, team guy with a high football IQ and room to improve…good 2nd level blocker, plays to the whistle…gets pushed back into the pocket too often, not the biggest or strongest guy…a little inconsistent and unproven.
Get pushed back into the pocket too often?
Umm does that sound like what we already have?
And why did the Saints get rid of him in his first year and now Miami after one year?
That can be fixed, he is still young.
Both have decent lines and we don’t…
Still have a problem at RT
What are we going to do there- sit and wait to see if Barry Rich or D Mac are going to battle it out for a starting job? Or will Pioli come to his senses and sign Levi Jones, Mark Tauscher, or Jon Runyan for 1-2 years.
who says Pioli's done, yet? ;)
just from this, it looks like he saw the same thing Friday that we did.
Listen-
I surely hope he’s not done…and I like this move- I do…guy was a third round pick who was inactive for 15 games his first season, so he hasn’t really come into his own yet, and with all these other teams that put in waiver claims for him makes me think these GM’s and coaches must really see some potential in him that the Saints didn’t/couldn’t.
Miami is pretty stout on the O-line.
This guy might be good, just wasn’t able to unseat any of their starters. Same with NO.

I wonder, jbj8609
Was it the Vikes game, or an offer Pioli made previously that came to fruition after a decision was made in Miami? Reports seem to support the 2nd theory, saying it was a tough decision for Miami to decide who they were going to keep and who they were going to trade.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Maybe to late now
but I wouldn’t mind given Niswanger a look at RT
Center
is a huge concern too! Chiefs gotta have a guy in there that can move the pile on short yardage. Iwas truly hoping Ghiaciuc, or Smith would step up and take that Job from Niswanger.
If Niswanger can play at all, I agree with you it would be outside at a tackle position, But Idon’t think he has enough speed for that.

Meh...
I guess I can sort of be glad it’s a position of need, but is he going to have an impact? Third team from the Dolphins?
Meh.
My Thoughts Exactly
Although I have a feeling he’ll still be better than Goff…who’s been pretty darned awful so far.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
Might just be a surplus of good players.
Parcells has been working his magic in Miami for a year-plus, now. I haven’t researched it, but could just be a case of having settled on his starters, has a long-term plan with younger players he wants to develop, and Alleman and Ndukwe are good enough to have trade value. And maybe – just MAYbe – Pioli knew full well that there was gonna be a late opportunity for a couple good linemen, depending on who won the starter spot in MIA (stressing the familial ties). Just speculating, but that’d explain the apparent lack of urgency to this point, as far as high-quality o-line.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Pioli is a man on a mission and does not waste time.
I agree! I’m just pleased to see that they are addressing the crappy O-Line situation fast. Next signing/pick-up will be at the RT position.
Alleman info
Scouting report from before the 2007 draft:
http://www.sportspool.com/football/draft/714.php
Chiefs worked him out back then. He was a third round pick of the Saints but never won a job there. Started some games with the Dolphins last year. He’s listed at 6’4" 310, and reportedly was a workout wonder in the pre-draft testing in 2007, so he should have the tools at least.

30 bench press reps
nice…not that it has to do with anything now, but anything 30+ for a lineman is stout.
According to Stagdsp
The tight ends were the ones missing all the blocks last friday and NOT the RTs. If thats the case, it may be easier to address the blocking problem by finding an upgrade at TE instead of RT. Hard to find a solid RT this late in the game.
BTW: I REALLY hope this Alleman kid turns out to be good. Any ideas if he will be playing Guard or Center?

Means he was the first person to post about the topic
And so, Craig finds himself leaping from blog to blog, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

I wonder-
what the compensation was…hope nothing too high. I guess we will kind of have an idea of what Scott Pioli thinks about this kid when we see what he gave up for him.
Guess this is a good move.
Never heard of the dude but I guess that’s the case with many interior linemen.
Aint got a beach and I see no mountains, landlocked loungin' in the City of Fountains.
LOL take off the red tinted glasses
Why are you all praising Pioli!?!? This is a problem that should have been addressed more clearly in the draft or earlier in FA. You can’t praise a guy for using a draft pick to get a 3rd string back up 2 games into the preseason in the weakest position on the chiefs (oline). I hate that we had to give something up and that the oline wasn’t more properly addressed earlier.
You're not alone in that impression,
but I’m willing to wait and see what transpires. Pioli’s all about the big men, and prob’ly knows a whole lot more about what he has and what he’s getting than I do.
But if the wheel turns and the right side of the O-Line remains THE problem on offense, you be sure and remind us all that you made the right call. Making the call in such negative terms, though, IS going to make you the target of some flames, though, my friend.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
AK 47 you are dumb
How do you know we gave up something significant? Oh yeah thats right…..you’re on your coach with no affiliation with whats going on with the chiefs so you don’t know. Just like the rest of us. Stop attacking Scott Pioli. He’s done nothing but good for the organization. He can’t fix a franchise in a year dude.
Alleman seems good, but the scouting reports before the draft make everyone seem like pro bowlers.
No TonylovesKC you're dumb and blind
What I said was simply constructive criticism. I don’t know if the trade will end up being great or bad, but I don’t like that it was done so late when this was an obvious need at the end of last season. Who cares what Pioli did in the past. I have no personal connection to him. Do you??? I only care about where the team is now and what Pioli has done for the team lately. He made a mistake not addressing the oline properly sooner and I don’t intend on praising him because he made some last minute trade to try and correct it
But he did try
See Mike Goff (so much good that one did)
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Exactly
He tried and failed with Goff. The reason Pioli is getting praised is that he realizes it and is moving on. Unlike Carl and Herm who recognized when they were screwed at a position, but instead of fixing it after two preseason games, they take the “Let’s just see how the whole 16 game season plays out” attitude. Hardcore props to Pioli. His positives greatly outweigh his negatives at this point. Yeah he missed on Goff. Nobody’s perfect. Go Chiefs!!!!!

Constructive? Sounded more like just plain-ole criticism.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
2 people for 1 draft pick??
Ok…maybe this is a pattern??
Uhm Question: We cut Redd the LB from the PATS…Who else are we going to cut to get back down to 80???
Everytime I decide to log in and post....
The question becomes answered with like 70 responses in a new post…jeez… :)
