At the 11:30 mark of the first quarter, Brett Favre threw his first pass as a Minnesota Vikings QB.  Unfortunately for him, the Chiefs defense decided to show up.

Three drives. Two punts. One fourth down stop.

Not too shabby at all.

Yep

The first team looked great in the first quarter.

Gotta hand it to Tarvaris Jackson…12/15? Man. That’s a great game.

And

Yes part of the motivation from this post was to post that picture of Favre getting rocked.

Anyone else notice

They spelled it Corie Mays not Corey Mays on the picture description?

Interesting

We have a deal with the other AP to use their photos…and descriptions.

This is no longer the 32 ranked defense in the league anymore...

The 3-4/Clancy/“we have no 3-4 players” haters can now officially apologize.

No, it's not.

Less emphasis on LBs covering and more on bringing extra hats.

They need to work on containing athletic QBs like Tarvaris, so when they DO gamble, the secondary can count on the ball coming out quickly.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Our 1st team looked very good

against a QB that has been with his team 3 days. It was pretty obvious that he would have had at least one big reception if he had any time with his receivers. When Favre left the game, we got a stop, then the Vikings owned us on their TD drive. They ownedd us on the drive where the half ended but ran out of clock.

I saw good things, but remember who it was against. Also remember that our craptastic D from last year stopped Favre three time in a row when we played the Jets. We lost that one too.

I hope everything comes together

and we dominate, but I’m not throwing a parade for last night’s performance.

You beat me to the punch

I wasn’t able to watch the game so I don’t really know how the defense looked. But I didn’t expect much from the Vikings offense with Farve as their starter since he hasn’t taken a snap in 5 months. In reading the stat lines I see that Travis Jackson (a QB that has actually been practicing) chewed us up.

I’m reading here how good the 1st team defense looked, so I have to ask… did the defense really look that much better? Was there something on the field that wasn’t expressed in the stat line?

I’m trying to be possitive, and hoping that people aren’t thinking that shuting down Brett Farve means the defense has turned the corner.

Some plays looked really good for the D,

but the Vikings TD drive made our D look like last year.

Corey, you motorboatin' sunofabitch!

Tell me, are they built for speed or built for comfort?

Yeah what was with the defense after Jackson came in?

Please tell me some starters came out or something. We looked like we were dominating them, then out of nowhere we looked like Herm’s Cover-2 again…

Mobile QB changes everything

We had the same pressure but Jackson could scramble away from it.

It was our first team D

Check out the names making the tackles.

It's a work in progress...

But the defense really looks great to me. Yes the secondary was a bit lame last night, but I think they’re a bit off balance because their opportunities to make plays look so much different as they develop in front of them because of the linebacker/line play changes. The secondary will get there before too much longer. Shoot! It’s hard to watch and follow the front 7 on TV… imagine how scattered and jumbled it must look for the dbacks on the field.

But our D is a WHALE of a lot better at the line and the linebacker level. Those boys are just a swarming madhouse of bumblebees right now, and Tamba looks like he’s found his most natural position ever. They’re still catching on and inconsistent, but it looks to me like they actually are going to be able to stop the run and pressure the QB this year. I’m encouraged on the D side.

Now the O is a whole nuther story… the line is still not showing real signs of being able to block for the run very well, and theres a swinging gate over there at right tackle. Dont be surprized if Pioli picks up a veteran castoff for RT in the next few weeks. The sooner the better as far as I’m concerned.

Question from the other side.

Is Larry Johnson hurt because he doesn’t look like the same LJ from years past? Will he still be the feature back or will we see more of Jamal Charles?

by Raider76 on Aug 22, 2009 4:16 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

We could be worse...

We couldve given up 200 yards rushing in the first 1/2 like the Raiders(Gore only 7 of those too).
