Croyle trade?

I talked about this in a comment on another post but I thought it deserved a full post. It has said that the Brandon Marshall trade is probably not true, but trading Croyle could work out well for us. More picks for next year or a player that could help this team now.

The Texans game never set well with me, why would  Brodie Croyle have so many starters still playing with him on the 2nd team? Then I thought what a better way to showcase a QB for trades. Pioli and Haley could have planned this all out. You have a QB that has looked good in the off season, you set him up to be able to have a good preseason game, and then when the head coach is ask if he is happy with Matt Cassel he doesn't have much to say, even though every other time he has had nothing but praise for him. Then the media takes it from there, Articles come out about Croyle could take the starting job.

With the stories in the media you have other teams taking notice and Croyle's trade stock goes up. Is this some of the magic from Pioli we have heard so much about, we may never know but this could be very good for the Chiefs.

I can't vote on this one.

I would say if we could work out a trade of Croyle for Brandon Marshall and a decent draft pick, we should do it considering we already have a good starting QB. if we can’t get instant gratification out of it, meaning a player who will help us now, I say keep him here as a backup. We have lots of draft picks for next year and I would rather get a proven player to take his place. If Denver was interested in Croyle, I actually think he would end up as their starter within a few weeks of the season starting. He is a better QB than Orton IMO.

I hadn’t thought about Haley setting Croyle up to look good for trade bait but, that makes a lot of sense. Good post.

although i voted to trade him for help now i don’t believe it will happen. who in thier right mind would give anything for him. and what could he possibly be worth. i think if we packaged a draft pick or two with croyle to get someone decent i would be all for it

Dude, the Croyle for Marshall thing was a joke

Brodie has zero trade value. The dude is yet to stay on the field for a full game let alone win a game. They couldn’t get a non-existent 8th round pick for him.

Agreed

I can’t see anyone giving up that much of value for Croyle considering how easily he gets hurt. If the Broncos actually offered Marshall for Croyle and a 2nd rounder, I’d be convinced that McDaniels was insane.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West.

McDaniels has come off as arrogant to me so far, maybe they think their o-line is so good that Brodie could stay healthy there.

I know I said that it wasn't true but

with all the media coverage about his off season and pushing Cassel his trade value is up and it would be the perfect time for Pioli to work his magic. There are teams that don’t have good back-ups and some with questionable starters.
I agree with you, I am not a fan of Croyle but I also can’t deny with the way things have worked out he could have some trade value now.

It Would Certainly Explain The Chiefs Playing Him So Much In Preseason

There’s no way the Chiefs commit Croyle to a long-term contract after the season’s up. He’s just not a guy the team can build around because of his injury issues. But if they’re showcasing him for trade, this is the way to do it.

But is it really that far fetched?

Marshall is going to pout his way out of Denver, so he’s as good as gone. Orton is clearly not ready to lead that team and they have 3-13 written all over them. They will get a 2nd round draft pick and a decent QB (He’s a better QB in Denver than KC (Better O-Line))

And so, Craig finds himself leaping from blog to blog, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

Or every time I watch teh highlights of Bowe’s catches with Croyle at QB during the first pre-season game, I see Jay Cutler? Take it for what it’s worth, just seemed like i was watching Jay Cutler just with a #12 Chiefs jersey on. You know, with his intimidating walk after he completes pass after pass swaying his shoulders back and forth, just like Cutler does. Weird stuff. Worst case scenario

We trade Croyle and a 2nd to Denver for Brandon Marshall. Croyle throws for 4,000 yards and Marshall and LJ become BFF’s and get arrested for doing what they do best – being dirtbags.

And so, Craig finds himself leaping from blog to blog, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

by bringbacktheglory on Aug 20, 2009 3:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't say he could throw for 4000 yards.

But, you guys are mean! Put Croyle behind a good offensive line and he becomes a downright dangerous QB. If he were to get some wins under his belt and some confidence, he could be a STELLAR QB.

I’d still trade him for Marshall. I’d rather trade him for Clady though. I wonder if Pioli could get that done.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Aug 20, 2009 7:59 PM CDT up reply actions

Unfortunately For Him, He's Not Behind A Good Offensive Line

And even if he was, there’s still no guarantee he can stay healthy. Alabama had a solid offensive line during his time there (’Bama’s running game was productive every season with good ypc numbers for their RBs) and he was still injury prone.

As for being “stellar”, there’s nothing in his career to suggest that. He was an above average college QB…that’s it. He never came close to passing for 3,000 yards, his career completion percentage was 56.2% and he missed a ton of games. He was decent, but the strength of his ‘Bama teams were rushing attack and defense, not Croyle. And he’s never been close to stellar in his pro career…he’s barely been able to get on the field, in fact, and he’s never outperformed his backups.

Because he hasn’t won any games.

Honestly, I don’t know what the obsession with Croyle is. He wasn’t a great college QB, he’s been a terrible pro QB…I don’t know why people keep playing the “what if” game with him after four years. He seems like a heck of a nice guy and I’m sorry that he’s terrible, but the fact is that he’s been terrible and all the stats and results of his performances prove it.

I live in a town of 6,000 people about five miles from the Mexican border in southern Arizona. About an hour south of Tucson. I work over near Fort Huachuca as a government contractor and travel to bases all around the country to train soldiers, so I’m out a lot. That works though, since when I get back from the trips I just want to kick back and relax before the next trip so it doesn’t bother me being in the boonies. It’s only when I’m here for too long between trips that I get bored and antsy. :)

Bama’s O-line Brodie’s senior season was not good at all. The rushing game was so effective because bama simply had awesome RBs in Tim Castille (arizona cardinals), Kenneth Darby (st louis rams), Leron Mclain (baltimore ravens), Jimmy Johns, Roy Upchurch, Glen Coffee (san francisco 49ers), even Tyrone Prothro taking direct snaps.

That offensive line and situational play calling with Dave Radar at OC was absolutely abysmal.

Found The Stats On ESPN

According to them, Croyle got sacked 36 times his senior year (no stats available for sophomore and freshmen years), so yes…his protection was terrible. But while that might show that he didn’t have a good supporting cast, it still doesn’t make the case that he was anything more than an above average college QB. And it doesn’t change the fact that he’s been a terrible pro who’s been outperformed by his backups every season.

But as a collegiate athlete I really believe its silly to say he was a simply “above average” QB. Sometimes Coaches Just Take A Liking To Certain Players

Even if they’re not the best they ever coached. I remember when Jimmy Johnson was with the Cowboys, how bothered he was to trade Jack Del Rio because he loved coaching the guy so much. Del Rio was a very good player, but he wasn’t as good as the linebackers he was being replaced by.

Also Wouldn't Rank Croyle As A Better Passer Than Starr

Starr was an extremely accurate QB. Croyle’s never come close to that. He might have a stronger arm (I don’t know Starr’s arm strength) but a strong arm doesn’t mean anything if you don’t hit your targets regularly downfield.

7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.

i know i dont have to tell you

but completion percentage does not indicate accuracy.

and can you believe that Bart Starr was actually benched in his senior season?

he was injured. injured bad.

Of Course I Can

I’m a KU fan…the year after we played in the Orange Bowl in ’69, the coach kicked John Riggins off the team for his senior year. :)

Although Riggins Might Have Been Exaggerating

He was known for that and he did have an excellent senior season. :)

Not Well

The season after that Orange Bowl marked a long, dark period in KU football history that didn’t really abate much until Glen Mason got there in ’89. We got lucky during the ’60s because the Jayhawks had Riggins and before him Gale Sayers. The ’70s and ’80s were a lot of really ugly football teams with few bright spots. We had a lot of terrible coaches (Bob Valesente being the one that irked me the most, until Terry Allen).

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.

Basically

We lost Pepper Rodgers (the Orange Bowl coach) to UCLA after Riggins left. Then came Don Fambrough, who had two different stints during that era (19-25-1, 17-24-1), Bob Moore (17-21-1), Mike Gottfried (15-18-1), then Valesente (4-17-1). Gottfried was actually promising but after his best season at KU he left to take the job as Pitt’s head coach.

Valesente was definitely the low point. I watched that stupid asshole run a 3rd and (I believe) 26 quarterback sneak against Nebraska during a blowout at KU…as a designed play. It got stuffed about 4 yards past the line of scrimmage. A few years later I was talking to a guy who was one of the trainers for the team during that time and he told me that most of the players were on ’roids and they still only won four games in two years.

Great College player

doesn’t mean he can play in the nfl

Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

At least now I know why you have defended Croyle

so much on here, you watched him in College. I just can’t understand why so many other people do.

Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

by bringbacktheglory on Aug 20, 2009 11:21 PM CDT up reply actions

honestly

coming out of college I thought that it was absolutely perfect that hed get to play with Trent Green as I predicted him to be much in the same vain, with maybe a hint of Matt Hasselback peppered in. i really expected him to do big things and I still think he couldve/wouldve if he stayed healthy.

but if your aunt had balls shed be your uncle.

he was injured. injured bad.

by troy145 on Aug 20, 2009 11:31 PM CDT up reply actions

i understand,

I am still holding out hope for Thigpen to be a starter, probably won’t be here but somewhere. the guy has so many good things about him, just give him a year or two and work on a few things.

Croyle and intimidating in the same sentence.

hahah

neither did I- suprised that my name is under that post – maybe my cereal was spiked yesterday – not to mention everytime I watch those highlights of Bowe and the catches he made I get a heavy, heavy dose of excitement. Forgive me for being a little bit excited I couldn’t get a hold of myself :)

He's not swaying his shoulders

What you see there is both of his hips breaking while he’s walking to the huddle. It must have been breezy that night.

I just heard....

The trade now is Marshall for: Thomas Gafford, Matt Gutierrez, (2) season tickets to Worlds of Fun and a bag of Doritos.

Virtus In Arduo

by carthagechief on Aug 20, 2009 12:47 PM CDT reply actions

Wouldn't include Gafford in the deal, who would be LS, FB# 2 and TE# 3?

I can’t see Broncos and the Chiefs making any big deals. McDaniels would be run out of town before the season started

2009-10 Predictions:
1. Chiefs will win ATLEAST 6 games, which is a big improvement over 6 wins in 2 seasons
2. Succop will bring stability to the K position for the first time in years
3. Chiefs D will atleast double the number of sacks form last season
4. Cassel will be a top 15 QB
5. Todd Haley won't make a poster and jump around holding it up welcoming the Chiefs players to summer camp, I mean TRAINING camp

by Chiefs_KC on Aug 20, 2009 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions

Wait wait wait

It’s not THIS bag of Doritos is it?

I Don't Get It Either

I mean, he seems like a nice kid, but over the last two years he’s been the third-most productive QB on the Chiefs’ roster. And considering that #1 and #2 weren’t all that, that’s pretty shaky.

Well I don't think its that people want to keep Croyle

They are just saying a Croyle-Marshall trade is highly unlikely. You poll 100 AP members and I’m sure 95% would take that trade in a second.

And so, Craig finds himself leaping from blog to blog, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.

by craig in calgary on Aug 20, 2009 3:12 PM CDT up reply actions

well it says right in the post that the Marshall trade is unlikely

but another trade could happen.

Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

by bringbacktheglory on Aug 20, 2009 5:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I hope this rumor is true as well

it’d really be better for all parties involved.

he was injured. injured bad.

by troy145 on Aug 20, 2009 6:11 PM CDT reply actions

almost any trade for Croyle

would be productive. Most especially a premier OL.

He might be a good kid but he can never be a starter imo.

Hopes fade once again from blue to red. Go New Chiefs!!
