Remember that stuff about Brodie Croyle firmly being the Chiefs' No. 2 QB? Well, now I'm starting to believe he's threatening Cassel's job.

Croyle!!!!!
I sat in that rain and froze my ass off, and yes, Croyle came in and handled business like I thought he would. Dude set alot of college records, he is an amazing quarterback, better than Cassel by far. He is just fragile. But yes, Cassel didn’t look bad, but Croyle did something out there. Fragile or not, I wont be shocked to see him start season opener. Although, I dont think he will get the oppourtunity to do so. Alot of people think Croyle is something, and dont get me wrong, I am as excited to have Cassel as the next person, but because of his fragileness, Croyle hasent had a chance to show us what he can do. U gotta admit, the guy has a cannon

Yea I don't believe it.
I mean it’s camp anything can happen. People can have good days, bad days. It won’t matter until you actual get to gameday and how you perform in a game. Plus they won’t start Croyle over Cassel. Does he not remember Cassel signed a huge contract?
Oh and don’t forget, he’s fragile as all hell.

basically
"I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"

What?
If Croyle is the better option, who cares about the contract. Haley doesn’t, Pioli doesn’t, the rest of the offensive players don’t. And thus far, Croyle has performed better. And not because of a good day, but several good days and a good showing in preseason game #1.
No Sir.
Croyle will have to be really impressive and a whole lot better than Cassel to start Fragile Croyle over Cassel. Cassel has leverage because he has the contract. Your not gonna bench a huge contract.
And on him having a good preseason game. Please. Cassel would have been better too if he had Bowe. Croyle Had Bowe. Cassel had Copper. Please don’t tell me you consider that good or slightly better than Cassel. If Cassel had his shot to play with Bowe then it would of been different.

I agree: the contract won't matter.
These aren’t the Royals we’re talking about, who will play their vastly overpaid players no matter how bad they are.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
Leadership
That’s really what it comes down. Cassel commands the huddle and has all the intangibles. Croyle has been better in camp, however, and the talking head are going to tee off on the fact that Haley has consistently said that the best players will play.
We are going to hear about this until Cassel shows up and plays up to expectations.

This does make me question the eyes of Loney from the Mothership.
I mean, who should we trust—610 AND 810 hosts talking about how bad his throws were today, or the PR guy from Chiefs.com?
True
That’s a fair question. Josh Looney and Bob Gretz said he looked sharp all day.
610 said he didn’t look great.
Even though they’re Chiefs employees, I’m going with Looney and Gretz. Gretz has been negative in a couple of reports recently. I don’t think he’s necessarily biased.

Even IF Haley is serious about the best player getting the job
And even IF Croyle is playing superior to Cassel through the preseason, I think you’ve got to start out with Cassel.
They brought in Cassel because they think he is a franchise player so they have to give him a chance to be that guy. I’m not a big believer in QB competitions. If Cassel is your guy, you stick with him until he proves he’s not your guy. Only then do you give Croyle another shot and at that point HE’s your guy and you stick with him until he proves he’s not (or gets injured again, which is likely).
I think if you put Croyle in ahead of Cassel and then Croyle gets hurt AGAIN, then you’re throwing Cassel out there to start and he knows nobody has any confidence in him. Just a recipe for disaster.
I am and always have been a huge Croyle fan, but his lack of durability is just too much a liability. If it turns out that Cassel is the next coming of Derrick Anderson and they decide to give Croyle another shot I’ll be all for that. But until then, Cassels our guy.

I agree 100%
and with that being said, I hope they start drawing the line between who is first team, second team and third team so whoever “their guy” is gets some serious reps with who he’s going to be out there with on game day. They have to develop timing and chemistry and this exercise in competition needs to wind down and we need to start preparing for the season like a team.

Damn CF70
Take it easy.
I personally don’t think Croyle has what it takes nor do I think that Haley or Pioli do either. He’s a practice warrior who can simulate a good pocket passer in an environment where he won’t be touched. I could honestly care less about jared alan at this point either. Neither of them are likely to have much impact on the Chiefs regular season so all this banter is inconsequential. Just my opinion.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
Ummmm
Jared Allen is a fucking traitor
Why? Because he got traded away when Carl Peterson refused to consider a long-term extension for him? By that rationale, every player who ever got traded because their team wouldn’t commit to them is a traitor. That’s a ridiculous argument. Especially since football is a business above all else.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
Also
You guys are saying you want to throw him out to the wolves in Minnesota so he can get creamed?
By “throw him to the wolves” do you mean put him into an actual game where he has the chance to be hit, just like what happens to every other player in the NFL? Because yes…if that’s what you mean I’m definitely a proponent of throwing him to the wolves. If he can’t stay healthy after taking a few hits I’d rather Haley and Pioli figured that out in an exhibition game than in the regular season.

I know what you mean, though, and agree. I would prefer we know who most, if not all, the first team guys are by the final preseason game.

Right on the money
Couldn’t agree more with this post. Croyle is a practice champion since QBs don’t get hit. Let’s not forget that Brodie has never won an NFL game in his career and couldn’t even finish a game last season.
With that said, it’s pretty dissapointing to see how poorly Cassel is doing in practice. On 810 this evening, they were saying that he was having all kinds of trouble throwing the deep ball accurately. I hope he gets this all straightened out, or else he’ll be just like Trent Green (great leader, good personality, no arm strength).
I've Got To Side With Whitlock (Only A Little, Though)
I think that benching Bowe is probably hurting Cassel’s development a bit. I can understand benching Bowe if his practice habits were sloppy and I’m fine with it. But it’s cutting into time that the first string QB and first string WR could be using to work out the kings.

Babble is on crack
he is only saying that cause Brodi played well last week and today when asked if Cassel was the best QB in camp Haley wouldn’t say.
But you know what? He’d have said the same thing if they asked about any other position.
D-Bowe, Mark Bradley, Bobby Engram and Turtle. Four Chiefs WRers. 4 Pro Bowlers.
Haley
Can’t play favorites at any position including QB. He’s got to stir the pot. No one on this team can get complacent.

That pretty much sums it up. I have a feeling a lot of these competitions will last all season.

Agreed.
With such a young team the FO is looking to build a base for the next decade. These competitions aren’t going to go away this season. I look at this season as a year long audition for a spot in the future of this franchise. By the end of the season we’ll see if the defense can really be built around Dorsey, Johnson and Jackson or if more draft picks need to be spent. The same is true for Cassel, Albert (already proof, IMO) and Bowe on the other side.

Your statement is utterly wrong either way. Don’t get me wrong there are examples of players suddenly appearing out of nowhere or disappearing in the same fashion. But for ever one of those there is probably 50 players who performed about as well as previous performance indicated they would.
Your methodology would lead to chaos as you couldn’t ever cut anybody or even place anybody into starting order as you never know when somebody might suddenly breakout or decline. I can assure you that Steve_Chief if you are at all a rational person you not only have judged a player (or person) based upon their past performance, but do so regularly.

Coaches say one thing and mean another most of the time
Haley might say that he’s going to play the “best player”, but make no mistake about who is the real boss of the team. Pioli didn’t make that trade and give that contract to Cassel to watch him sit on the bench.
Haley can give lip service to open competition, but unless Croyle or Thigpen are playing like Hall of Famers and Cassel is playing like Joey Harrington, Cassel will be the guy.

Gailey was around all of last year..He helped prepare Croyle all year to be our starter and guess what ended up happening? Croyle never threw more than two td’s in a game, and got injured TWICE. How does that bode well or say anything about Croyles ability? And Thigpen (who had little preparation) comes in and begins throwing 2-4 td’s a game..Deffinently a noticeable difference in regards to stats..

Croyle
I would of liked to see how Croyle could of played consistantly, without getting hurt. He is a an average/decent quarterback, but he is made of feathers. He is weak and can’t take a hit. That’s why we brought in Cassel. The only way I see Croyle playing over Cassel before injuries is if he actually is and clearly is without a speckle of a doubt better than Cassel. Which I dont think he is. Everybody deserves a chance, and well Croyle can’t get a full one because he’s got no bones.

The Leinert/Warner comparison is exactly the same thing I was thinking. Croyle has a freaking rocket launcher of an arm and COULD very well steal the job.
However, I am on the Matt Cassel bandwagon and i still think/hope he will start…Even though Brodie IS technically a better QB.

Slow starter? Whatever it is, he steadily got better all season long last year.
It would appear that Croyle plays a whole heck of a lot better without the added pressure of being the starter.
And, As Always
It’s preseason. Even Casey Printers looked good in preseason. But the thing is that (as his post-Chiefs CFL career showed) he’s not good when you put him into games that count. Bobby Sippio would be another example.

So true
If Croyle could really play like that against the Ravens D in a real game (and actually survive a 16 game season), then we really should have some QB controversy. But as it stands, I think it would take a lot to not go with Cassel. I would be happy with any Chiefs QB if they can play at a Pro Bowl level.
So Would I
The big problem with Croyle, though, is that even if he were able to perform at a Pro Bowl level in games that matter, he’s still always going to be a guy you can never quite count on because he’s so likely to go out with an injury at any given time.

That's Really The Difference
It’s like Bill Walsh said about QB prospect Greg Cook (who he thought was the best young QB he’d seen)…you can’t help the team if you can’t stay on the field.

And that is the kicker
You have to count on these guys. I think Haley, and especially Pioli, understand that reliability is greater asset than skill in some instances.
Not that Cassel doesn’t have skill, because I think some of the games he played last year showed a lot of promise. The throw to Moss in the Jets game is still one of the best players from last year that I saw. Period.
Bullshit
They invested a $60 million dollar contract in Cassel and Croyle might as well be made of balsa wood. There isn’t a chance in hell Brodie Croyle takes Cassel’s job.

That’s Favretastic! ( I think Madden made that word up?)
Seriously, it's like a Favre proton and a Croyle anti-proton collided in the Large Hadron Collider today.
But, instead of annihilating each other, they produced the most irritating subatomic particle in existence…the Favroyle.
The Favroyle behaves differently than any other known particle, instead of being subject to the strong & weak nuclear forces, electromagnetism, and gravity, it produces its own, newly discovered, forces of annoyance and repulsion. And uniquely, it exists only to propagate its against the rest of the known universe.

Favre and Croyle are almost exact opposites
Favre, the indestructable one, and Croyle, the completely destructable one. It was inevitable that they would propagate this hiddeous QB gene known as the Favroyle.
I am disgusted by it, and yet strangely indifferent.

For those of you who think
that Cassel’s contract will restrict Croyle from being QB, remember two things:
1. The Chiefs are paying Cassel and Croyle the same no matter who is one and who is two, it makes no difference.
2. Warner started over Leinart in Arizona, and Leinart is the one with the huge contract.
That said, I think it would be a sad mistake to make Croyle our starter.
Leinart Was Also A Rookie When Warner Won That Job
Croyle isn’t.

2. Warner started over Leinart in Arizona, and Leinart is the one with the huge contract.
Warner also was a two time MVP with Super Bowl rings and Leinart was a struggling rookie. Let’s not pretend its the same situation.
http://ajax-dj.mybrute.com
Yeah but
I, along with others, thought Warner was washed up when he played for the New York Giants, and then went to Arizona. No one thought Warner was the same quarterback he was when he won the Super Bowl. Plus, he had terrible issues with fumbling the football. Even when he was on the Rams he was good for losing a fumble every week.
The point though, was that it wouldn’t be the first time the guy with money is benched for the guy without money. It’s especially relevant since its the team Haley was on.

Babb and Whitlock and Teicher
I stopped reading any Chiefs columns in the KC Star about 3 months ago. It’s all garbage, trying to create controversy and water cooler fodder.
2009-10 Predictions:
1. Chiefs will win ATLEAST 6 games, which is a big improvement over 6 wins in 2 seasons
2. Succop will bring stability to the K position for the first time in years
3. Chiefs D will atleast double the number of sacks form last season
4. Cassel will be a top 15 QB
5. Todd Haley won't make a poster and jump around holding it up welcoming the Chiefs players to summer camp, I mean TRAINING camp
I'm happy that
Croyle played as well as he did. That only plays out well for the Chiefs. Croyle may have thrown well… but he also had the luxury of tossing to Bowe. Also, even though his arm looked good, remember the order of QB attributes:
Leadership first
Coverage reading second
Pass Accuracy third
Release fourth
Pass Strength fifth.
Cassel dominates points 1, 2, 3.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
I'll take coverage reading and pass accuracy over leadership
As a QB, if you can’t do those things you won’t win games. Leadership comes with maturity and can certainly be learned, for most.

The only way to consistently win
is to get the most out of every player on the field. The guy that makes this happen in the heat of the game is the quarterback. When the rest of the team believes that the QB is going to put everything on the line for them, they respond by giving him their all. This trait is called leadership.
If you haven’t recently, I suggest you watch this game, one of the most epic battles between two leaders. You can see the sacrifice from the offense and defense for Montana. As well as what Montana (past his prime and undoubtedly in pain) gives to his teammates and the level of play he demands from everyone around him.
Sorry to be stuck on Montana, but here is a great little write-up on his lack of physical attributes but excellent vision and leadership.
I've been rapping for about seveteen years okay? I don't write my stuff anymore I just kick it from my head you know what I'm sayin? I can do that. No disrespect but that's how I am.
Well Babb succeeded to the tune of 135 replies and this is why they do it.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
honestly its the source
I know many of us have called out babb on here for whacky info, and ill stick to it, hes the one that said the D was behind the O…I just dont believe Babb, Im sorry but Cassel ran a 1 step drop quick pass or a shotgun quick pass, they didnt let him open it up and mostly he didnt have a wideout named bowe, or even bradley to throw to…
Croyle is talented but cmon…Cassel is the guy…if you bench cassel then what, he comes off the bench does well and hes still the guy that cant be the starter? sigh.
well as far as im concerned
this is the best news ive heard in a while :D
Honestly, who doesn’t think Croyle’s arm is as good as Cassels? His only liability IMO is his durability. So you put him in and if he stays healthy than thats good cus hes a damn good QB. If he goes down, than you get the depth chart most Croyle haters wanted all along: Cassel – Thiggy – Guitierrez.
Who loses if Croyle becomes a starter?
he was injured. injured bad.
The Chiefs
Because his offensive line will be just as bad if not worse than last year, and because he’s never stayed healthy for any significant period of time, and because the team’s never won a game with him as the starter, and because if the Chiefs are going to run the Wildcat they’re better off with a combo of Cassel and Thigpen.

Oh, And
Because he’s basically in Michael Vick’s class as a passer…which isn’t good. He still hasn’t shown he can consistently complete passes downfield against NFL starters (as opposed to the 2nd string scrubs he’s playing against in preseason). Go look at his career YPA and YPC numbers…the only reason his completion percentage is mediocre instead of terrible is because he rarely goes deep.

when was a play allowed to develop that long?
when you can hardly get in a 3 step drop before someones in your face than how are you supposed to let deep plays develop? Plus I can think of several really nice deep passes from Croyle that were completed and a handfull more, like one against Tennessee where he literally had a defender hangin on his jersey when he zipped one 35ish yds down field right to Bowe in stride where it was promptly dropped.
as far as wildcat. youre right about that, I just hope we dont run wildcat.
he was injured. injured bad.
Somehow Huard Was Able To Post Better Numbers Than Croyle While Playing Behind The Same O-Line
So let’s not start this whole bogus “But Brodie didn’t have a chance” argument. He never at any point outperformed his backups. Both Thigpen and Huard were better and more effective QBs.

And Huard was at the time a better QB for that type of football.
he was injured. injured bad.
And Huard Wasn't That Good Last Year
And Huard was at the time a better QB for that type of football.
So if Huard was barely mediocre and Croyle was worse than mediocre while playing for the same team behind the same line, what should that tell you about Croyle?
Predictions for 2009

Im not talking about last yaer
im talking about 07. I think Croyle was better in 08 than Huard.
he was injured. injured bad.
No, He Wasn't
And the passing stats show that clearly.
Huard was far better in completion percentage, yards per attempt and yards per completion. Croyle had a slight edge in TD/INT ratio, but that was more than offset by Huard’s dominance in other areas and, again, Croyle also didn’t play well enough in any of his games to help his team win.

Wow congrats Huard
In however many games, he had .4 better YPA, 7.3% worse completion pct. Im talking about 2008
In 2007, Huard had a 76.8 QB rating, which is only slightly less than about the average for that year which was the same year the number was skewed higher by insane performances by guys like Brady. In 2007, Huard wasn’t hated like he is now and was last year. Aside from that, he was a vet and Croyle was a first time starter who still mounted a 69.9 QB rating.
he was injured. injured bad.
Again
Im talking about 2008
Yeah, and I have no idea why you keep talking about 2008 because Croyle only attempted 29 passes all year because he couldn’t stay on the field for more than part of two games. That’s like saying that if I throw only one pass for the Chiefs in a game and complete it for a TD I must be a better QB than Joe Montana because my completion percentage is 100%.
Aside from that, he was a vet and Croyle was a first time starter who still mounted a 69.9 QB rating.
So now you’re admitting that Croyle wasn’t better than Huard in 2007?

3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.

5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
never said he was better in 2007
in fact I clearly said one post ago,
im talking about 07. I think Croyle was better in 08 than Huard.
he was injured. injured bad.
And I Pointed Out That's A Flawed Argument
Because Croyle only attempted 29 passes in 2008 and was only on the field for part of two games (both of which were losses in which he played not very well).

Played not very well...
wow… okay.
I guess I just totally disagree with that. I wish I could find stats on drops, do you know where I could find those? Croyle went 11-19 against NE for 88 yards, an admittedly average day, but went 9 for 10 against Tennessee for 63 yards. Each of those games he had a pass for at least 20 yards. I dont see how you can say he played “not very well” unless you mean it in the most literal sense, where he would have had to have done better than just play well, but play very well.
he was injured. injured bad.
Stats
I wish I could find stats on drops, do you know where I could find those?
ESPN and NFL.com both have them…you have to do a little digging, though, as they’re not easy to find.
Croyle went 11-19 against NE for 88 yards, an admittedly average day, but went 9 for 10 against Tennessee for 63 yards
That would be an average of 8 yards per completion against New England and 7 yards per completion against Tennessee, both games in which he was knocked out with injuries. Against New England Huard went 8-12 for 118 yards (14.75 yards per attempt) and passed for a TD (which Croyle failed to do). Against Tennessee, Huard went 9-16 for 96 yards (10 yards per completion) before being knocked out with an injury. Huard outperformed Croyle against the same opponent in both of the games Croyle played in.

I’d like to see the scores when Huard went in each time. Situationally they could have had totally different advantages/disadvantages.

The Situation Was That They Were Losing Each Time Huard Went In
Huard took the Chiefs on the TD drive against the Patriots and did better than Croyle but nothing of note in the blowout against Tennessee before getting injured.

furthermore
Right off the bat, his very first start against the Indianapolis Colts, Croyle outplayed Peyton Manning.
To say he didnt play well enough in any games to help us win is simply inaccurate.

Did He Win The Indianapolis Game?
Did he throw for 300 yards? Did he throw multiple TDs?

That would be a compelling argument if Manning hadn’t performed terribly that day.

Putting so much weight on W/L is silly
Archie Manning was a 2 time pro bowler with a 26.3 % winning percentage.
Other people needed to perform, and that loss if I remember correctly was largely due to terible clock management on the part of the coaching staff.
he was injured. injured bad.
Win-Loss Is Inaccurate When Used As The Only Criteria By Which To Judge Players
But in Croyle’s case it’s indicative of the fact that Croyle has rarely performed well enough not to lose, let alone well enough to win. He’s been a pretty terrible QB in fact for his pro career.

And I Don't Care If It's Not Easy
His backups were able to perform at an acceptable level so I don’t really care what Croyle’s reasons for failing were. Point is that he was the third-best QB on the roster last season in games that mattered and that he can’t be trusted to stay healthy.

I also
would take issue with the claim that Huard faired better in 2008 than Croyle. Croyle was running like 9/10 and then 66% in the other game averaging like 8 yds per pass in those games.
then as i said with Thiggy, he played significantly worse than croyle in the same playbook, i think it was against Atlanta.
he was injured. injured bad.
I Have No Idea What You Were Saying With Your Statistical Argument
But the passing stats all back up my point that Huard was a better passer than Croyle last year. Not to mention that Huard’s performance actually helped the Chiefs win a game last year…and Croyle’s performance has yet to rise to the level where he’s not a liability.

In 2008, Huard had a 65.7 QB rating.

Last year his YPA was 5.2
Huard’s was 5.9.
Furthermore when Croyle had a decent sample sizing when he started those games as a soph in 07, he played better than Huard did in 08, and I dont think its unreasonable to assume that at that point in Croyle’s career, he would have improved those numbers.

No its not because the conditions are similar
In years where each player started the year as the teams second string, behind similar offensive lines and with more similar levels of experience, Croyle performed better. Its only a one year difference as well, not some era to era comparison where the game was revolutionized or the playcalling mindset of the organization was drastically different.
There’s variables in each comparison because Huard played against different opponents with different injuries, weather conditions, etc.
Honestly to expect a first year starter, second year player coming in mid season to perform better than an experienced veteran coming off a playoff season where he played well enough to take a team to the playoffs seems unreasonable to me.

Croyle has never outperformed Damon Huard as a QB. That’s reflected by both the passing stats in the years they played with the same personnel and by the win-loss record for each QB.

Huard not really an experienced vet
he had only started in 6 games before coming to KC and was out of football for the two years before.
Honestly if you have to argue if Croyle is better than Huard then that doesn’t say much for Croyle. Huard had some good games but I would never call him a starting QB.
If you want to compare, Thigpen was better than both. If Thigpen had a top 15 defense like Croyle/Huard had in 2007, he would have won a lot more games in 2008.

and he had bowe to throw to . which makes things a whole lot diff . haley needs to put dbowe show in first string to help cassel. also brodie has nothing to lose out there which is helping probably play better its tough when every member of the chief organization is putting the entire franchise on your shoulder now he has no pressure at all he is just playing perhaps thats what he needed to do just develop come in and ball. who knows . Also Cassel was only given 5 (2-5 passing) chances to throw the ball while Croyle was given 18 (12-18 passing) whole chances to throw the ball. Cassel was completely hamstrung while “Brokie” was given the chance to succeed, and maybe that’s all that was, just to see, THAT NIGHT, what Brodie could do, in case we ever should lose Cassel, and how does he compare to Thigpen. Screw these media whores who probably aren’t even from Kansas City originally that are just out there trying to just stir stuff up and create a “buzz”. Fuck your medicine, we don’t need that shit here, you’re helping way to many people think way too inrrationally and illogically about this.

Missing the Point...
Croyle has looked good and looked great in the preseason game. Regardless of who he was throwing to or against, the man was on target. I applaud that. I love the fact that he is starting to come into his own. The better Croyle plays, the more it will push Cassel. No doubt in my mind that Cassel is the starter. The point is, with Croyle playing well, if Cassel does gets hurt (God forbid), we have a legitimate QB to come in and hold down the fort. Of course, it may not be for too long, but at least he’s proving he is worth retaining…
Put this in your pipe and smoke it:
1. Chiefs will be at least 8-8 and vie for division champs
2. DJ will break out and finally have his year
3. LJ returns to form
4. DBowe drops will reduce
you can't say someone looked great when they didn't score a TD!
Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

Sure I Can...
and I think I did. Doesn’t matter that he didn’t score. He was on target and looked like a legit QB for once in his career. Are you going to say that Thigpen looked good just because he did score a TD? Preseason is about the evaluation of players more than anything. I read a quote from Haley that he doesn’t want to show too much, so he’s basically trying several different things. I’m paraphrasing of course, but the gist of preseason is to see who is ready to receive the Arrowhead. From what I’ve seen through camp and preseason game numero uno, Croyle is hungry for his.

well yes you are right that you can say great but you wouldn't be right.
Croyle had the starting receivers starting LT and still couldn’t get in the end zone, and he is lucky our kicker has a strong leg or he wouldn’t of even go 3 points. Bowe had to make a diving catch then another time had to get jump ball over the middle exposing himself to injury in a preseason game. IMO that doesn’t sound great.

Who missed the point?
‘Cause I just read your reply and it appears we’re actually saying the same thing….But for Babb and so many people to say that Brodie should be the starter after what happened in the game the other night is non-sense…You know, shaking things up and changing things are only good WHEN THEY NEED TO BE CHANGED, otherwise, it’s stupid because it never allows your players to get into a groove and find out what their OWN strengths and weaknesses are. To change and shake things up is one thing, but to do that just for the sake of doing it makes no sense at all.

A loaded question by the press
go figure.
Any answer given to that question would have spelled trouble for Haley, even the non answer.
The press is great at this kind of stuff, instead of reporting the news they try to make some up. After all making stuff up makes them more money then actually reporting the facts.
And people just love gossip and controversy.
I believe Haley will choose the person who he thinks will give this team the best chance to win, I take him at his word when he says everyone has a clean slate.
I believe he will sit a player down on the bench if that player is not doing it the Haley way, even if that player is the best player on the team.
Sure the coaches job is to win games, but you better win those games the Haley way.
I really don’t care who starts at QB.
I personally don’t think any of them are great QB’s, they are mediocre at best, but mediocre will work if the team as a whole plays well together.
What really matters is getting this team on the winning path again, once you have that you can then start to build and mold it into a winning franchise that will dominate for years down the road.
I do not know who the starter will be, but if I had to guess I would guess Cassel.
I will say this though, do not get attached to any one player, because you might get your heart broken when the cuts come in a few weeks.
I cant wait to see who makes it and who doesn’t, there could be some real long faces around here.
Does anyone remember last season
Cassel didnt have a solid preseason last year with the pats and as far as I can remember barely made the #2 spot!
How do any of you know who brings leadership in their huddle?
Cassel may not be the white knight we think he is. Plus Brodie’s injuries were just extremely unlucky. He wasn’t fragile, he was the most sacked qb in the league who took too many shots to the shoulder, and then one big shot to the knee that would’ve knocked even guys like Ray Lewis out for a season. Give the guy a break, let the best qb win this job.
Leadership For A QB
Is completing passes and staying on the field. Croyle’s never demonstrated he can do either sufficiently.
Plus Brodie’s injuries were just extremely unlucky.
When a guy blows out his ACL once, he’s possibly just unlucky. When he blows it out three separate times, he’s fragile.
