Marvin Harrison isn't done yet.

Could Don Pioli come to terms with a sure handed receiver like Harrison? I understand the Chiefs have some $$$ to go to meet the cap requirements for 2009. I have been wondering why Harrison hasn't signed on with any team? Is't the money issue? The ability to go to a team as a starter? Why hasn't teams taken a look at #88? I would think Pioli is constantly sieving through the wire for WR talent due to the teams' lacking in receiving talents. How much is Marvin looking to sign for 1 year? Is he looking for long term deal? That could be the reason teams aren't interested in him. Would the Chiefs consider him in a 2-year deal? We have the cap room for a pro bowl caliber receiver.

Bowe, Toomer, Lelie, Bradley all play the X, or Y

Engram would play the Z…….. (in come Marvin Harrison….dawg……. you get as many quality WR in here as possible, and the best will weed themselves out.

i think we have plenty of depth too. these guys are old though so why not get some depth. lelie is horrible and maybe not even and upgrade over webb. i say sign him and see what he brings. we have the money so why not

Engram and Toomer

We signed Engram 36 and Toomer 35…so why not?

Predictions as of 06.24.2009.

Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

His Knees Looked Terrible Last Year

He couldn’t get separation on his routes and he looked a lot slower. He hasn’t had a good year in two seasons and he’s not young at all.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West.

Had him on my fantasy team that year. The most yards he ever had in one game that season was 87 and he scored one TD. He had two decent but not great games and three crap games.

I think

The WR corps is shaping up just fine.

They need to focus on incorporating and developing they guys they have, Especially the young ones- Taurus Johnson and Quinten Lawrence.

  • Cut Darling, Wright
  • Rely on Bowe, Toomer, Bradley, Engram
  • See what you can get out of Lelie
  • Get Lawrence to return kicks and learn behind the old guys
  • Keep Taurus on the practice squad or roster, if they can find him a spot.

What good are all of these veterans if there’s no youth to learn from them and take over when they are done???

"I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"

by stagdsp on Aug 18, 2009 2:30 PM CDT reply actions

What good are the young WR if there isn't veterans to learn from?

If any of these young wideouts currently in camp is any good or shows promise, you would have seen it already.

Taurus, Quentin, Rodney or Terrance – They will never be the primary receiver – these are AT BEST complimentary WR in the NFL – 3rd stringers or occasionally the feature receiver based on certain packages or opponents. By that I mean they may give you a 100 yd/game one day and thats it, they disappear for most of the season.

Predictions as of 06.24.2009.

Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.

by 58 was my friend on Aug 18, 2009 4:30 PM CDT up reply actions

how do you know that?

We don’t know much of anything about Taurus, Quentin, Rodney or Terrance…

They have been working with the Chiefs for a few weeks, total.

I’m all for having a blend of veterans and younger players, but if you give up on every prospect before they ever see a regular season game… you’ll always be scraping around the bottom of the barrel for FA WR.

Keep the veterans that have just been brought in, and give Quentin and Taurus a chance to compete for the #5 or #6 option… which IS, yes, a “complimentary WR in the NFL”… and that’s not bad.

At this point in his career, Harrison is nothing more than a complimentary WR… and he’s only getting worse, not better. At least Q and Taurus have a CHANCE to develop…

"I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"

by stagdsp on Aug 18, 2009 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Not disagreeing with you 100% BUT

If Taurus or Quentin is more than that, you would’ve been hearing about it from all the local media raving about their productivity.

Impressive rookies usually standout right off the bat in camp. ie. Eddie Royal last year in Den.

Jarrad Page back in camp ’06. Will Shields in camp 1993 started as a rookie. Bowe in camp 2007. Especially Greg Wesley in camp 2000 where he became a starter in week 1 as a rookie.

All I’m saying is, if these guys are any good, you would have seen it by now. Not that there are so bad that we cut them, but we do need to get some more reliable hands in here with experience now – in 2009. Let Taurus and Quentin take small roles or perhaps practice squads. I know Quentin has the return job – its really his to loose.

Both agree to see if any of our young wideouts could develop into solid contributors down the road BUT we differ to which veteran WR should be with the team now.

You guys must have really liked the number of catches those two made in the 1st pre-season game vs. Texans.

This is purely individual preference then! Some prefer Marvin over Toomer or Engram. I was excited when we signed Engram but to keep hearing that he isn’t impressive and dropping balls in camp, I have differed my feelings since. And with Toomer, I didn’t want KC to sign him because at that time it was 1-2 days into camp, I had initially wanted to see what Quentin and Taurus and Rodney could bring to the table. 2+ weeks of camp and 1 pre-season, I don’t think the young wideouts have something to showcase that they are saving for another day. I worry about the future of our WR corp if we sign Marvin Harrison

We are bringing in so many veterans; Amani Toomer, Bobby Engram, Ashley Lelie. What we need, what every team needs from its WR’s are continuity that can be established with the QB. With these receivers being brought in the most they would play is 2 years, some maybe only 1. And these are going to be the last legs of their career, not sure how much solid production we can count on from the ancient WR corp we have now.
These older, established veterans are or were good in their day, but we aren’t planning for the future if we bring in guys with 1 or 2 years left in their careers. And these vets will be taking the roster spot of someone who is still in their peak physical condition and can sign a long-term contract and expect to play for its entirety.

Easy to discredit what Dixon says.

Just as easy to credit what he says.

But the modest way Harrison is supporting businesses in that neighborhood suggest to me a tough guy in a tough neighborhood trying to make things a little bit better in a quiet way. To survive in a place like that, and push things in the right direction, you’re going to get that kind of reputation.

But none of this means I’m arguing for a Harrison signing. He might surprise, but on the field, he looks like his best years are behind him.

Have you actually read the report?

The evidence was so overwhelming. I honestly don’t understand how this got swept under the rug so easily.

May 5, 2008:

On Wednesday, according to the WIP report, a source said ballistic tests showed that the gun that had fired the shots was a custom-made Belgian weapon, and police determined that Harrison owned such a gun. A source told ESPN.com’s John Clayton that the gun is registered.

Police then went to a Philadelphia car wash owned by Harrison to question him about the gun. Harrison admitted owning such a weapon but claimed it never left his suburban Philadelphia home.

However, WIP’s source said the gun was discovered in a bucket at the car wash, and tests showed that it had fired bullets that matched those found at the scene.

Misses a VERY important detail

they found 1 shell casing at the scene and two in Dwight Dixons truck that didn’t match Marvin’s gun.

There’s overwhelming evidence that Marvin’s gun was fired at Dixon, but it’s impossible to know who was shooting in self defense.

If he's a street-wise thug,

it’s very likely that gun with that ammo is pretty popular.

The guy comes from and lives in a rough neighborhood. It’s just impossible for me to judge those sorts of things. One thing is clear, though. Dixon is a repeat offender, and violent offenders are very common in that neighborhood, and if anything, it just seems to me that Harrison is probably a good guy living rough to survive and maybe make a positive difference. By meeting and greeting at the door of his establishment on a regular basis, it just seems like he’s trying to do positive things in an area where it’s tough to make positive things happen.

That being said, I recognize there’ve been other incidents, where he showed a mean streak. But again, facts are few and speculation is rampant. Especially from the likes of me. I’ll shut up, now.

There is no doubt in my mind

That we will either use our first rounder or one of our two 2nds on a receiver next year. There will also be a number of free agents available next year…

Steve Breaston, Brandon Marshall, Greg Jennings… to name a few.

I think we're looking increasingly at O-line in next years draft

Some of those free agents look like they’ll fill the bill at WR

WR, OL, ILB, OLB, NT

who knows about next year’s draft
they could go with any of these positions.

BUT, if no one emerges as a WR/KR… I would be all for drafting one in the first 2 rounds to have a big time playmaker.

As long as they also draft a RT or RG also.

I really really don't want

another Defensive lineman drafted in the first 3 rounds next year.

For the love of God, they need to focus on another position

Possibly.

He’s available after this year, and New England just grabbed Ron Brace in the draft.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

I can also see them look to add depth at none other than

Left Guard

Cards will keep either Breaston or Boldin, but not both. If they’re smart they’ll trade Boldin and keep Breaston for much cheaper and still retain a 1,000-yrd receiver. Jennings is Aaron Rodgers only target — I can’t imagine them parting ways. If anything, he gets paid. BMarsh, of the three you’ve listed, has the highest chances of being on another team next season, IMO.

Jennings signed a big fat contract just this year

Didn’t he? with the Packers….

Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

In my opinion

I think Marvin Harrison IS done whether he believes it or not

I pray that the Chiefs take him

as long as he doesn’t got to one of our rivals especially our most hated rivals (Tennessee <_<) im ok with it

i didnt read all the comments to see if someone mentioned this:

but marvin harrison has some off the field issues. gun possesion or something like that. a reason why teams are not looking to sign him because he may get jail time.

That and he didn't perform all that well last year and he's getting up there in age

we already have a pair of ancient WR’s

ya hes definately not a good fit for the chiefs

but my point was to answer his question of why noone else has looked at/ signed him.
agree that age and production are another factor.

totally untrue

he wasn’t charged in the shooting that involved his registered gun, his accuser has already plead to making false statements in the case.

It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.

He's running a bussiness in a rough neighborhood

gets into a fight throwing a ex-con who brought a gun into his bar out. Two weeks later the ex-con tries to get some revenge and Marvin returns fire.

They found 5 casings from Marvin’s gun and 3 between the scene and Dixon’s car that weren’t from Marv’s gun.

It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.

that's what I think happened from the evidence

it’s possible that it was

Ex-con Marvin had gotten into a fight with over the guy coming into Marv’s bar armed shows up with a gun on him, Marv shoots first asks questions later. Still understandable, but a lot closer to illegal.

It's shocking what you can miss sometimes. The amazing color changing card trick.

Hell

while we are at it, we will probably end up signing Chris Carter and Jerry Rice to 4 year deals soon!

the tastycakes

“this time of year i gotta have the tastycakes”

you know i wonder – why havent teams like the Rams, or the Raiders, or the Falcons or any team thin at WR (excluding us) taken a look at him? Chaz Schilens done for a month or two…even it Atlanta, when Harry Douglas went down for the season they signed Marty Booker…you kidding me? I’d take Marvin over him any day. The Rams have nobody- Keenan Burton is their #1 right now with Ronald Curry right behind him, why wouldnt Steven Spagnuolo take a chance on Marvin? Especially playing in a dome too as far as the Rams and Falcons go…I mean those teams seem like perfect fits for Marvin. There must be something about Marvin or something he’s dealing with that isn’t right.

I think the streets of KC

are dangerous enough without Marvin Harrison running around shooting at everyone.
