- Tyler Thigpen did not participate again
- Maurice Leggett had a jumping, one-handed interception
- Lots of guys stayed after practice to return kicks

General stuff
- It was about 75 degrees and 50% humidity (National Weather Service)

Offense
- Barry Richardson was running with the first team at RT again (BobGretz.com)

- Quarterback Matt Cassel was 9-13 today during the 7-on-7 drill. (UW-RF)
- Brodie Croyle hit Mark Bradley on a slant for a 55 yard touchdown (Josh Looney at the Mothership)
- Croyle's pass to Bradley was in a simulated game where the offense started at their own 40 with 50 seconds to go (BobGretz.com)
- In red zone 7-on-7 work, the Chiefs offense had one touchdown (Cassel to Copper) (BobGretz.com)
- To end the 11-on-11 drill, wide receiver Mark Bradley had a near 50-yard reception and touchdown from quarterback Brodie Croyle. (UW-RF)
- Cottam didn’t hustle back to the huddle as fast as Haley would have liked. “Quit feeling sorry for yourself and run back to the huddle, and make the next play!” Haley hollered. (UW-RF)

- Bernard Pollard was back with the first-string. (UW-RF)
- During 11-on-11, linebackers Demorrio Williams and Andy Studebaker teamed up to sack quarterback Brodie Croyle. (UW-RF)

There were a few plays
where he looked like he was in pain during the game against the texans
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
Looked like he rolled over one of the yard markers
where the triangular part nailed him right in the back. I bet it did hurt.

He sure does sound really good
For all the bad stuff that happened under Herm, at least he left us with a really nice secondary.
http://ajax-dj.mybrute.com
i guess that should be expected
given thats where he played.
i have flowers, pollard, and leggett on my fantasy team because they ALL are going to have outstanding seasons (especially with our new and improved DL)
nfl is looking for that yao ming money

Flowers beaten on the fade.
Good as he is at attacking the short stuff and tackling, I’m concerned about the over-the-top stuff.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
it sounded like
He had really good coverage on the play but receiver made an excellent play.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

I will never understand why Darling is always the #1 before the season
Does this guy just kick ass during practices or what?
Put in the first strings for God sakes = Bowe, Bradley, Toomer, Engram, Lelie

Why did darling leave practice? by TEXAN81
gotta love Vrable
The team ran 11-on-11 with 50 seconds on the clock. On a quarterback Matt Cassel pass, linebacker Mike Vrabel jumped and hung in the air for a solid amount of time, swatting at the ball. Vrabel deflected the pass, but was unable to make the interception. Frustrated, Vrabel shouted some obscenities as he ran back to the huddle.
Anyone know when the first cut-down day is?

Sept. 5 — Roster cutdown to maximum of 53 players.
Nice one
Thanks

doesn't it seem dumb
to have the 2 cuts so close together?
seriously, what happens in those 4 days that makes a difference?

good one
Nice link to Cristy’s update, using a minimum amount of words. :)
For the record, your first post did include the fact that you liked her first article.
Nice gesture, ravenhawk.
Since the report is about camp before the Texans game, I thought it was interesting to note the lack of correlation between what gets reported in a single practice and then what happens in one game. Coaches are looking at a much larger body of work when they makes cuts and decisions regarding the depth chart.
It was an accident that I posted this...(I had to many tabs open)
It is a much better article even though not much exciting happened.
I was looking to see if she had written a new article.
new article as in today.
Probably will be uploaded tomorrow.
Brodie deserves a chance to start
Cassel is a bum. All I hear is him throwing picks all day long and brodie throwing long touchdowns to receivers. He was sharp. He is sharp. His injuries were just unlucky. A shot to the knee….he was the most sacked quarterback for a few years. Seriously this guy can play and cassel is ruining it. Pioli is stupid for not seeing it, and its not open comptetition in the quarterback spot. Its weighted 4 cassel to win.
Cassel is a bum?
You are drawing conclusions based on one preseason game (5 passes). And practice drills where the defensive players know the plays and routes that are going to be run so they can jump them. Croyle had his chance and yes he may have looked good in the preseason game but best case scenario he proves to be a good back up this year and maybe we trade him after the year to a team looking for a potential starter.

Cassel looked good in the game as well but the receivers didn't catch his passes.
Matt Cassel is still the best QB on our roster and is the best long term option as a starter.

You do realize that Brodie has never won a game in the NFL in 2 seasons....
… or was able to start and finish a game last year. Brodie has a strong arm, but weighs about 150 pounds soaking wet. He needs to gain some bulk before he has any chance to be a legit QB in the league.
It's stupid
To throw that much money at a guy who didn’t do anything more impressive than thigpen did. Thigpen had a shitty O line, no show running back, moron coach, no defense, and he threw 18 td’s, ran for 4, and only 11 picks. Cassel had the greatest O line, Randy moss, wes welker, a stifling defense, and a coach who had already instilled a system.
At least if you declare open competition, let it be open. Don’t emphasize that unless you mean it. And the 5 passes cassel threw in the game were mainly terrible. As far as I’m concerned Brodie was the one who led that offense. And I didn’t even like brodie last year I thought he was a pansy. But 5 passes from Cassel said it all.
New England...
Does NOT have the greatest O-Line….nor a stifling defense…
the 5 passes cassel threw in the game were mainly terrible.
I didn’t see any terrible passes actually….4 of his 5 were not only catchable but well placed…you are the only one saying this…
This is nonsense, this is not the Star comments section…
Wow... All I can say is
Who knew there was grounds in drug testing for blogging? Are you serious? Broken Brodie over anyone is a surprise, he’s one of those looks good on paper and in practice type guys that when the games count and mean something just can’t be counted on. Come on I’m a disabled Vet and I can take a hit better than Croyle. Thigpen has yet to show he can play an NFL system, the wildcat came out of the schools and although effective at times, is not an offense an NFL team can expect to win with long term. Until Thigpen can show me he can operate under center and run an NFL offense he’s just another gimmick player to me. I personally want a look at Matt Gutierrez, He is the one putting in extra time on the field and with and receiver willing to stay a bit later just to get more work in. He might, and I repeat might be our best option for the number 2 spot. If he can take a hit and run a real NFL offense, he might just have some talent as well who knows the Pats fans seemed to think he had some skills and didn’t want to lose him. Let’s see what he can do after all we pretty much know what we have on hand with the other two.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
I’m a Chiefs fan Dammit and I’m damn proud of it!
NE played a spread offense seems to work well for them.
And as for as under center, Gretz wrote an article comparing Cassel and Thigpen under center and Thigpen was better than Cassel was last year under center.
And if you watched the game Saturday our offense was lining up in the wrong spots and Thigpen was directing them to the right spots to be in. Sounds like leading too me.
And if more then one team runs a certain type of offense (spread) doesn’t that make it an NFL offense?
Croyle can’t be trusted in real games, he is a camp pro that is it.
As far as Gutierrez goes, The fans wanted Cassel out last year before the season but NE kept him and that turned out good. And Fans wanted to keep Gutierrez and NE got rid of him, so that worries me a little about him.
Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

Watch the Personal Attacks
Who knew there was grounds in drug testing for blogging? Are you serious?
Tony didn’t take personal shots at you in his remark, he just stated a personal opinion on the team and made an argument. Show him the same courtesy…attack the argument, not the person.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
6. The Chiefs will go 7-9 in 2009, good for 2nd in the AFC West.
7. Ryan Succop will not perform better in 2009 than Connor Barth did in 2008.
I Agree With You On Some Of Your Points
I have some of the same concerns about Cassel (although I still think he was a good acquisition for the Chiefs).
But I think it’s pretty generic coach-speak for any coach to say open competition when it’s clearly not. And while Thigpen was a decent QB compared to Brodie Croyle, he really wasn’t that great of a QB compared to the rest of the league (yes, I realize there were mitigating circumstances, but still he was very inconsistent), so I’m fine if they give the job to Cassel without giving Thigpen a shot. If Cassel falls flat on his face, Thigpen will likely get another shot at the job.

And if the defense knows the plays in practice
Can you explain to me why Brodie is throwing way more TD’s than Cassel? Because Brodie has a cannon and Cassel has a limp noodle.
Or more than likely because
Cassell is still going against first team defense with cooper and wright to throw to while brodie gets bowe and bradley…
