Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Who is available or might get cut that can help?

I am not going to cry chicken little but I do think we can add some players to help us win this year.

Our offense will be better with Bowe and opening it up BUT we need another WR and more OL help.  Also, I know there are a lot of Pollard fans but I think this defense is one stud safety away from being very good in the short and long-term.

Some of the guys I can think of:

1. Levi Jones - Anyone know why he has not signed?  Only 29 and much like Runyan would be an upgrade over McIntosh.

2. Jon Runyan - old but HAS to be an upgrade over McIntosh for at least a year.

2. Marvin Harrison - is it character or has he just lost it?

3. Matt Jones - character for sure but talent is there.  Worth a 1 year deal to me.  Hell if he comes in and does not buy into what Coach Haley is asking just cut him.  His speed would add a lot and he had a good year last year.

Anyone else?  Any ideas of who could be cut?  Any other Pats or Cards players that might be just deep at one position?

Pioli said he would add 3 to 5 more players...

Any of them

Except Harrison. That guy has lost his mind, along with a step or two. We don’t need him. Engram and Toomer will be much better mentors for Bowe and the young recievers. But..I think that Levi and Runyan would both be worth looking at

Pretty much the same short-list I have in mind, too.

Except for Harrison. Doesn’t demand cushion because he’s lost a step and isn’t physical enough to make up for it.

I don’t think Matt Jones is really a head case. He had the misfortune of discovering white powder with his college buds, and that’s an ongoing concern for the rest of his career. The thing that sticks out in most people’s minds, though, is the probation violation, which, when I looked into it a little bit, amounted to nothing more than drinks on the golf course. The main issue with Jones is he’s never QUITE emerged as a 1,000-yard receiver. He produced at that PACE, but I don’t think he’s ever started 16 games AND put up top-tier numbers throughout.

I think a player like him might be something Pioli and Haley either just don’t want, or they want to be sure that the team has an identity and his teammates will support him as a comrade. One sticking point about going with an apparently impressionable guy like Jones is if they bring him in today, there’s more risk of his falling in with players who don’t make the final 53. He’d have more support from his teammates if everybody he encountered were fully invested in “the program.” I’m just sayin’.

I question whether either of Runyan or Jones can do the running Haley requires of all players. I think either one would bring something extra, but maybe do an end run around the running by waiting until after some of that stuff is relaxed, i.e., quite a bit closer to the 53-man cuts.

But none of us are looking at players who appear to be “on the cusp.” The 4 you list are and have been FAs for quite a while. Players currently under contract who might shake loose (off the top of my head):

  1. Anquan Boldin
  2. Josh Cribbs
  3. Brandon Marshall

Cribbs is the one I’d most like to see. Boldin’s not happy, but there’s almost no way AZ lets him go. Marshall’s a whiner, and would cost a bundle.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Cribbs

would be f’in great. Solve our return problems right there…and we have the money to spend still.

that would be HUGE

Cribbs or Parrish or some other established returner!

Cribbs wants Hester money.

He won’t get it in Cleveland, and prob’ly not in KC, but KC could probably make him a better offer than Cleveland can/will. He’s a versatile player, but, like Hester, would probably not work out so hot as a WR in the regular offense, but he can fill in at safety and maybe H-back.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

I would be surprised...

If we didn’t see some new competition on the O-line. The first unit looks a bit disjunct. No one is cutting Macintosh, but he may need some new competition.

I can’t figure out Darling…He must be doing something right in practice. Bradley out played him last night and last year…I wonder what is isn’t doing in practice.

I think Webb will be out soon and I predict Bowe to be wearing #80 at the start of the season. If I recall, Webb could have had a TD from Thiggy, it wouldn’t have been the easiest…but I think a few of our other guys would have grabbed it.

yep

webb dropped a sure TD, but got a penalty, I think.

I hope the Chiefs DO cut McIntosh and Darling
