Chiefs vs. Texans: Second Half Overflow Thread

via assets.espn.go.com

The Chiefs trail the Texans 16-10 at the moment after a TD pass from QB Tyler Thigpen to TE Brad Cottam.

5 minutes to go.

Head coach Todd Haley has made the 2009 Chiefs training camp about situational awareness, and this is as good a test as any for both sides of the ball.

you are right, I am vision impaired, that’s why I’m watching the last drive again.

1:30 – Throw over the middle into traffic with 3 whites
1:20 – flees the pocket because he can’t read the defense, gain of 10
:55 – Run by savage for a gain of 10. 1st down
:42 – 1 and 10. Flip to savage, idiotic, fumble, loss of 10.
3 down 25 – throw across the field. Stupid.
4 down – had to throw, but picked off

Ain’t saying he’s better than Cassel, but his short-clock play’s better than BC’s. He’s got his team moving, and he made things happen, good as well as bad, and overall more good than bad.

My stat: thalove: Thigpen hater.

If every game

was a 2 minute drill thigpen would be great. It’s not, in a real football game, the 60 minute kind, you actually have to play under center, take a 5 step drop and make a throw. Thigpen can’t do that. Brodie can. Brodie was WAAAAY better than thigpen.

You are right. I hate thigpen. He represents two wins, terrible qb play, and the occasional wow play, followed by a pick.

by thalove on Aug 15, 2009 10:18 PM CDT up reply actions

And Croyle represents

vanilla play, some bad decisions (last year, as the starter), and fragility.

you cannot teach durability, or will to win.

You really think Croyle would have done better last year? I don’t.

You’re a TT hater. If Tyler walked on water, you’d gripe tha he can’t swim.

Not about brodie to me really

I thought he played better, but he’s not going to lead a team to the superbowl… so don’t really care.

Thigpen I do care about. he’s fun to watch, yes, some good plays, yes. but he is terrible. he won two games last year. and if we let him he would walk on water and lead us to the promised land…

… of another 2-14 season because he is THAT bad.

Yes, can’t stand him.

by thalove on Aug 15, 2009 10:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Then your eval of him isn't going to be accurate

Croyle looked better than last year, Cassel looked tenative, more afraid to lose the game than motivated to win the game.

Thigpen, whatever his lacks, played with fire, and his leadership was obvious.

by Bleedingredandgold on Aug 15, 2009 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

and TT's inability

to read a defense, go through a progression, and make a good decision and throw is the defenses fault?

He also had dbowe, gonzalez and johnson. plenty of O. Oh, and an entire offense geared towards the little strengths he has. He sure produced with that.

by thalove on Aug 15, 2009 10:35 PM CDT up reply actions

Going thru a progression is a luxury Thiggy's NEVER HAD.

We don’t know if he can stand up and throw from the pocket, because there’s never been a pocket for him! And if he had one, it’d take a while for him to settle down to the point where a good eval could be made.

He hasn’t looked impressive on those few plays where good fortune or good feet bought him time to survey the field. But those opportunities were, again, few.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

by hmills110 on Aug 15, 2009 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions

disagree

the reason it looks like he doesn’t have time is because after a half second he scrambles, and the of course he has guys chasing him, because HE broke the pocket.

If he had any kind of pocket presence, you know… the kind where you step UP in the pocket and make a throw, instead of burning rubber out to the left or right. he could try and make a throw. Brodie wasn’t scrambling for his life tonight. and neither was cassel.

Why is tyler treated special? Because he caught a flea flicker pass from Bradley last year? Hardly qualifications for a good qb.

I thought Cassel put the ball where it was supposed to be.

If he had the starting WRs in there, he would have moved the ball. He doesn’t quite have Brodies arm but, Cassel is still the best overall QB we have. They were playing Matt “close to the vest” as Haley said in his post game. They ran the ball alot and were not slinging the ball very much.

Fucking WRs.

First off lets wait till regular season to evaluate croyle vs. thigpen

Thigpen has proven much more when it actually counts…Plus thiggy had no actual WR’s to throw too…

Croyle looked good yeah, but he had 2 of our start wr’s out there..Thiggy was playing with the scrubs..

Seriously, its preseason..Wayyyy to early to make judgements

Thigpen would have won most of his games had we not had one of the worst defenses in history..Seriously people, we went from terrible on offense to solid and exciting because of thigpen..How quickly do you forget that Croyle had his chances and didn’t ever throw 2 td’s in a game!!

It’s actually one of the few positions I’m not worried about.

I'm not

worried about a single thing. It’s the first preseason game. I know that there’s things you can judge from even preseason games, but I’m not going to zero in on anything yet. I’ll start making my opinions of players next week.

Preseason always reminds me of the commercial from 2006 (I think?)

Where the raiders fans are at a barbeque after going 4-0 in the preseason.

Raider fan – Super bowl this year, no doubt.

I think our Offense will be fine this year

Haley wanted to check out certain players, and there not running any plays that are going to give teams an indication of how were going to play once the season starts.

Penalties are the scary part.

Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!

True, plays were all vanilla for both D and O.

Probably the best thing out of all of this is proving to these guys what Haley and coaches were trying to teach them. Big difference between the practice field and playing in a NFL stadium. Good experience for the ones that have never done that before. Guarantee you the line up will be different next week against the Vikings.

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

I cannot wait until tomorrow morning

when I can finally watch what happened on NFLN. I just can’t have any real opinion until I see what in the hell happened.

We did not look real crisp, that is for sure.

( No sackable offenses in my opinion:) Oh wait two sacks!!!

Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!

Yeppers.

And no pressure to commune with our AP brethren means lots of stop-and-rewind, to get a little more insight into the entire picture.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

Was there a turtle sighting?

Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!

I spotted him sitting next to Toomer, he was sort of drawn back in to his shell because of the rain.

They were discussing something about routes, Toomer was pointing to a laminated sheet and showing him something.
