Star-divide

I hate to get my hopes too high this early in the preseason, but after looking at the division's opponents, you'll notice that the Chiefs have a relatively easy schedule.  We all have to play the Giants, Ravens, Cowboys, Steelers, and Eagles but San Diego must travel to Pittsburgh, New York, and Dallas.  Additionally, they'll travel to Tennessee.  Baltimore and Philadelphia will be tough road games for us, but the other non-division road games are winnable.  There's no doubt about it.  The Chargers have a tougher schedule than the Chiefs and that could, with a little luck, tip the scales in our favor this season.

I think we can beat the Jags

and possibly Denver on the road as well. That enables us to lose to the Cowboys if we are not playing at their level yet earlier in the season.

I'm hoping

the fan turn out will be much stronger this year. We need that homefield advantage back.

You know

if we look good in preseason and we can upset the Ravens I think Arrowhead will be a very, very, VERY loud place to visit for the Oakland Raiders.

nooo....

I don’t want us to lose to the Cowboys…I’ll be at that game, my first ever at Arrowhead….no, we absolutely can’t lose. Really. I’m serious :)

hell yeah...

If I looked like Jessica Simpson or Carrie Underwood….I would soooo take one for the team…and I’d be taking some for myself….hahaha

Maybe

Sexassassin could handle this one. You know there is something a little “funny” about a guy that would dump Jessica Simpson.

C’mon sex, get out there and show a little leg.

I'd say

There’s somethin a bit more funny about dumping Carrie Underwood for Jessica Simpson.

I could get more sacks with my sack

Yes

The last time we beat them was the last time we went to playoffs before getting blown out by indy 23-8. I believe. I remember watching the KC JAX game. Season closer, we had to beat them to go to playoffs with other team win/losss. Correct me if I’m wrong. That’s the last time I remember us facing them.

Yes we beat them in Week 17, 2006 season

The weather was not too cold during tailgating, but it started snowing about 10 minutes before game time, and got ridiculously cold.

That was the day we had to win and Denver, Tennessee, and Cincy ALL had to lose, at home, to sucky teams…and it happened.

I remember that the San Fran/Donkeys game was the last one to finish – I think San Fran missed a game winning FG in the last seconds, but then sent us to the playoffs with a FG in overtime.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

by PVChiefsfan on Aug 12, 2009 1:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Ya that was a crazy weekend.

Bengals miss a FG on the last play of the game to lose in OT. Denver ties the game late on a miracle TD only to lose in a 4 possesion OT. I needed medical attention after all that.

I don't THINK KC has beaten JAX @ JAX, yet.

but i’m going to the game this year, it will happen. by any means necessary

Hate to be pessimistic

I just don’t see the Chiefs taking more than 7 wins this season. In fact, I’ll be happy if we have two wins going into the bye. I do pretty well agree with the post bye predicitons here though.

by amazingtaters on Aug 12, 2009 12:37 PM CDT reply actions

This has been pretty well noted already, but we lost 7 games by 7 or fewer points last year.

While I would prefer to see the building of the franchise move slowly and steadily and not be one of those one year turnarounds the NFL is able to produce, it’s highly possible that this ship could turn pretty quickly.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

The key to winning the AFC West

is beating the Chargers twice. If we can beat the Chargers twice this year, I think we will make the playoffs.

by Vince D on Aug 12, 2009 1:52 PM CDT reply actions

Can't disagree with you there

If any of the other three teams in the West can do this the Chargers won’t be going to playoffs

That is a great point

They are the team to beat in the West, and amazingly enough, we match up with them really well. Best Chiefs-Chargers in game battles: Pollard vs. Rivers. See the Bonecrusher get into Rivers head. And Shawn “Steriod” Merriman matching up against either McIntosh/Taylor/Richardson/Brown. Or all four at once.

Been guzzling the stuff myself

I’m calling for nine, but I’m refusing to pick the games. I think we will do well in the division this year. I think we will stink it up and get our asses handed to us a couple of times. I also think we will surprise some people who we aren’t supposed to beat. Ahhh….think I’ll drink another glass. Anybody want some?

Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

I don't think Haley/Piloi have their eyes on winning the AFC West.

I don’t think these guys are at all interested in winning division titles — they want to win the Superbowl.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

by Rev. Slappy on Aug 12, 2009 4:03 PM CDT reply actions

nice

I was about to slap you around til I realized what you were saying. I agree. I think Haley knows how to get deep in the playoffs with this set of players. There are a lot of things outside of his control, like injuries, but you can tell that it’s his intention to win playoff games in 2009. He’s as hungry as they come.

by ChiefsDude on Aug 12, 2009 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't want this to sound mean, but I think 40 years without a Superbowl appearance has conditioned Chiefs fans to lower their expectations.

Fans now get excited about winning (possibly) the division. The new regime is aiming higher than that. I’m glad our new head coach just came off a Superbowl loss. It probably fuels his fire.

Here's my kool-aid analysis of the schedule:

Tier One: (We will be heavy underdogs, better hope for the “Any Given Sunday”

Week 3 At Philly - they move to Tier 2 if the injury bug keeps biting
Week 1 At Bal - weakest tier one team, definitely beatable, but great Defense
Week 11 PIT - SuperBowl Champs, the team to beat until they prove otherwise
Week 4 NYG - If Manning plays like the end of last year, could also drop to tier two FAST

Tier Two: (Good teams with some major flaws or Average teams we have on the road, Game could go either way)

Week 9 At JAC - MartyBall, who’s going to make the mistakes?
Week 12 At SD - two close games last year, Bolts add Merriman, KC adds Vrabel, Zach, Cassel, Toomer, SD did little to improve and could be in Tier 3 by the end of the season

Week 5 DAL- wow they lost a lot of talent, can Romo to Witten w/a strong running game and a weaker than last years Defense do it?

Week 7 SD - See above, at worst this series should be a split
Week 16 At CIN - Hard Knocks curse could have them in tier three by the end of the year
Week 6 At WAS - Cutler, Sanchez, Todd Collins start by the time they return to Arrowhead. Does Haynesworth have any incentive anymore?

Tier 3 – As of right now, KC is clearly better than these teams:
Week 14 Buffalo - Tennessee was clearly out of their league on Sunday
Week 17 At DEN - Can you say implosion? Not a pretty offseason.
Week 13 DEN - When is the last time KC swept Denver?
Week 15 CLE - Poor Dog Pound, they have great fans!
Week 10 At OAK - The Raiders acquired a ton of talent. If Jeff Garcia should take the starting job, they could move up to tier 2. They have a great set of Running Backs. They will stay tier 3 as long as JaMarcus is their starter
Week 2 OAK - See above.

So, there you go, if someone spikes my Kool-Aid, 12-4, worst case scenario, 6-10

Negative Ghost Rider the pattern is full...

I like your tiered analysis

And I think I agree with it as well. I see Dallas and San Diego as teams everyone thinks should do well, but have declined somewhat and continue to decline. And everytime Washington blows their wad on some stud player(s), they end up taking a dive.

The only thing missing here.. what tier is KC in? Do you start them out in 3 or give them the benefit of the doubt and throw them in 2?

by ChiefsDude on Aug 12, 2009 4:53 PM CDT up reply actions

sorry

you did say KC is clearly better… So tier 2 it is. As long as everyone stays healthy, I agree with that assessment too.

by ChiefsDude on Aug 12, 2009 4:58 PM CDT up reply actions

That's one optimistic breakdown

Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!

by Buck'O on Aug 12, 2009 10:51 PM CDT reply actions

Here are my upset games

Baltimore -we have the element of surprise and the injury bug seems to have hit them.
NY: I really think we can beat them but, I expect a low scoring game. 13-10 Chiefs
Washington: I have no doubt we will win this game 28-17 Chiefs

These games plus Cincy, Cleveland, and Buffalo will make 6 wins and I expect us to win AT LEAST 4 of our divisional games, splitting with Oakland and SD and sweeping Denver.

Chiefs finish 10-6 and win the west. Pendergast then works his playoff magic with the defense and the Chiefs make it to the AFC Championship only to lose to the Patriots by a field goal at the end of the game.
