technically wouldn't he be 5th string when you consider the other WR spot?
And surely Thigpen is higher up than Croyle.

Semi-surprising, but not totally so.
He had his best days at DE on the left side of the D. And while it’s an unpopular view, I’ve always thought that LBs do a better job on TEs by smackin’ ‘em in the mouth at the LOS, especially the current crop (Alge Crumpeler and Kevin Boss excepted) of lightweight WR wannabe’s, and even THOSE guys are slowed more by contact than by free release to post-up on a DB.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Copper?
Haven’t heard jack about him.
D-Bowe, Mark Bradley, Bobby Engram and Turtle. Four Chiefs WRers. 4 Pro Bowlers.
The whole body though looks legit

Haley must be seriously pissed at D-Bowe

Just a message I think thus Copper #1
but the D backers seem inverted though lineups seem right

I don't think Haley has any interest in showing his hand.
Frankly, he can prob’ly learn more about his guys and give away less to future opponents by runnin’ his #2s against the Texans’ #1s. Keeping #1s versus #2s in doubt as long as possible might be win-win for ’im.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
I don't think Haley would do that
Seems that a RESPECT for the game is what HC’s do.
Of Course Fischer ran a fake punt and then ran his punter out of the Field of play to seal win.

I don't see it as disrespectful, and I'm not even sure that's what's happening.
I’m just speculating. You don’t need to be a liar or even disingenuous to set people up to mislead themselves. Be interesting to see if Haley wants to win right away to change the mentality or if his goal is to win in regulation, and preseason be damned, if it doesn’t help him evaluate his players. I’m in the “preseason-be-damned” corner. Show as little as possible. Learn as much as possible.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Probably so as the preseason be damned mode
But the Chiefs have sucked and to change the mindset of the players
The Chiefs need to win, The season might end up “Damned” but the Chiefs need
some performance in the preseason. Did Detroit win all of their preseason games last year?

I don't think we necessarilly need to win the games
but we definitely need to play well, gell together as a team, find our Special teamers, and see where our weaknesses are. That is a lot. Although, it would feel good to win the first one!
Haley mentioned the "win versus evaluate" in preseason conundrum.
Nothing definitive, because the need to establish a winning attitude and winning expectations, but he leaned toward evaluation.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
Good point
but I would question the logic of not taking advantage of valuable game reps by having Cassel throw to Bowe. Maybe he will only be out a ceremonial snap or two and then come in the game?
Also
where the hell is Herb Taylor?
D-Bowe, Mark Bradley, Bobby Engram and Turtle. Four Chiefs WRers. 4 Pro Bowlers.

are the backers inverted compared to training camp positions?
I actually like this line up better though

They seem to be, Steve.
Something to be said for your take. Putting the vets on the weak side frees them up, more. But it could just be an accidentally-on-purpose miscue, sowing confusion in the opposition. Oops! Sorry about that! (wink) Didn’t mean to give you guys the wrong idea. (nudge)

Silly question
Tanner Purdum’s name popped out at me, after hearing about his screw up this morning. It got me thinking about something that I’ve always wondered:
Why in the world can’t the regular C also be the LS?? Is it just that the technique is so much different? Why does it require an extra roster spot? You don’t use someone to exclusively be the holder for FGs! Help me here.
In my experience playing football
Long Snapper is every bit as important to a special teams unit as it’s kicker. It’s no surprise that even at the NFL level solid long snappers are hard to come by, there’s a lot of technique and guts that goes into it. And a long snapper can be anyone from a former linebacker to fullback to the traditional center. Hell Jared Allen entered the league as a long snapper and he’s a DE
Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.
It's kind of a unique talent.
Sometimes a center can do it, sometimes its a guard(I think Waters can?), sometimes its a D lineman or a LB.

The o-line looks right
I know none of this is “official” but how is Javarris Williams behind Kolby Smith, who hasn’t even practiced yet.
I think this is the old Parcells trick of messing with the depth chart. I swear if they do that this year they’re going to drive AP’s game coverage off a cliff!!
Yea theres quite a few like that...
Gilberry ahead of Mcgee. Battle ahead of Charles. And the Glaring Copper ahead of everyone.

or I don’t care?
Did you find any other Official Chiefs depth chart
as I don’t check the mothership because their site is gawdawfull to date?

Parcells and Belichik were known for screwing with depth charts
and it’s no surprise Haley is following the same trend. Tom Brady has been on the “questionable” list every week since he got the starting gig in New England..
This is going to suck for Chiefs fans because we already have so many unfamiliar faces on the team as it is.

So are the LB's inverted?

Yea I just noticed that too...
Isnt Hali and Vrabel opposite? I noticed it in that Madden demo too they had Hali playing on Jacksons side and Vrabel on Dorseys.

No, Joel.
What drives fans like me crazy are the dramatic camera angles that provide little useful information and keep me from seeing who’s actually where on the field in the moment. Even with pause-and-rewind, getting the numbers of the players straight is problematical. And those “starting lineups” they always do at the beginning of games usually bear only slight resemblance to what I end up seeing on the field.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
You know a lot :)
But Haley might be playing games or our onfield reporters haven’t captured the line-up yet.
Even Tank Tyler says that the D behind our front three is Chaos. I agree till Saturday night :)

True that.
I actually think we have most positions pretty pegged unless they add another player not already on the roster (like Toomer), so it is just the more competitive position groups that might throw us a curve, especially in the depth positions. I am still not sure how many of “their” players will make the roster and push out a more experience player. Such as Jake O’Connell or Corey Mays pushing out Turk McBride. Not likely, but you never now. Somebody is not going to make the 53 that we thought should, and somebodies will make it that we didn’t think would.
I think…Ha.
Pioli will upgrade 53-man roster all season long
Once the 53 man roster is set and possibly even before then, you’ll see some new additions to the team. I think you’ll see the bottom 5 of our roster being fluid. I’d say Haley and Pioli will head into the season with 48 guys they really like and the rest will be filler or potential options for a trade if there are injuries.
LS, KR/PR, RT, C, TE and NT are my biggest concerns going into the season. I’m hoping i’m proved wrong in at least 2 of those positions listed.
by cameltoeuchdowns on Aug 11, 2009 12:52 AM CDT reply actions
Center and Tight end are probably okay
Niswanger and Ryan will serve the Haley purpose IMO
Edwards and Tank will fill the NT position this year
Right tackle needs addressing before 1st regular game and we might see something there.
Agree on constant upgrading of roster :)

There were a couple things when I looked at this depth chart I too went "what?"
And then when a couple people on here that are smarter than me figured out that this is probably subterfuge I went to myself “that’s smart!” It actually got me pumped up a bit for Haley to be thinking this smart.
Little things I see and little things I don't see...
… seem to suggest he’s 3 or 4 moves ahead of ME in his thinking.
No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.
