Chiefs Sack Leader Poll
Kansas City's lack of pass rushing ability has been emphasized a lot this season. I thought it would be fun to learn who we all foresee leading the Chiefs in sacks this season. If you want to vote for someone not on the poll, add it in the comment space. I'm excited to see how certain players will adapt/develop within a new hybrid system. It'll be especially interesting to see how Hali does playing from the linebacker position. He could show some flash. A few years ago he had more sacks than Jared Allen. Also, it seems that a hand full of people are looking for Glenn Dorsey to showcase his talent this year and do well with the new defensive scheme. I'm looking forward to seeing if Derrick Johnson finally has his breakout year as well, not that it would necessarily entail being the sack leader.

Zach Thomas if he hasn’t lost all zip. Could benefit from all the O-lineman being preoccupied with our front line and slip through for some guick sacks.

Exactly who I was thinking before even reading the candidates. I would go Zach Thomas as well. If he hasn’t lost too much he should get the sacks and be our sack leader.

Because of where they line up and their responsibilities
I think it will be DJ before it would be ZT I think. Thomas’ responbility is to occupy what the Dline couldnt to try to free up DJ. I think these two will make for a really effective pair in the middle.

My thought was that the QB would usually be sliding right and
Hali and DJ would have to get through the left side of the O-line who should usually be better players than the right side O-lineman.

Hali
He’s being set up as the primary attacker. We’ll see if he learns the position.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

Yes
That is the position Hali has to get sacks from.

Yeah, Predator position
We’ll see…Definitely one of the top 3-5 questions heading into the 2009 season.

I voted Hali...
But that doesnt mean I think he will dominate…he will be the leader but only with few…

KC Star is reporting that Beisel will be the starter over Hali.
How can they even start to say something like that this early. I hope it is to fire Hali up.

that's just dumb
I don’t even think Beisel is playing outside at all, is he?

Kent Babb does seem pretty high on Beisel, who may be a contributor, but I don’t agree with his assumption that Hali will begin the season as a backup. In the same article, he says that Hali has made the best adjustment to the new position of the guys who are transitioning to LB to fit the new scheme.

Problem with this is...
Beisel was never taking Halis spot on the field but was Vrabels sub for all those OTAs, so I dont know what would make him think that.

I’ve enjoyed playing against and later watching Beisel play since the dude was in high school. He’s a good guy, and he’s just a very good all-around athlete. He’s just a ‘tweener of so many different things that it’s been hard for him to fit into a traditional role anywhere, but I think the 34 is the best place for him. I don’t think he’ll really rack up the sacks, but he’ll contribute.
I think the three leaders will be Johnson, Vrabel, and Hali, with none getting more than maybe five solo.

Derrick Johnson
i believe this will be the year he’ll breakout with veteran leaders zach thomas and mike vrabel

I think the numbers will look kind of like this poll
Hali 10
Johnson 9
Dorsey 3
Jackson 2
Tyler .5
And that already looks a hell of a lot better than last year without adding any for Vrabel or Thomas and any the DBs may get on blitzs.

I really hope Hali can pull down 10
He hasn’t shown me that he can be effective without JA.
Also I think Pollard will bring 2-3 sacks.

Yeah
Pollard is going to be a lot closer to the line more of the time.
Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Of course
Hali only has had one year on an exceedingly bad defense without JA. I think this year will be much better. I truly expect at least 8 or 9, but do hope he makes double digits.

I'm with you
Hali isn’t as bad as he appeared last year.
my guess:
Hali 10
DJ 7
Dorsey 3
Jackson 2
Pollard 4
Vrabel 5
others 2

It has to be DJ
Linebacker blitzes on the weak side just make sense to me. I don’t recall seeing DJ in a position where other players had to stop him… could be interesting.
