Steve McNair is dead at 36
First report I found - here
Steve McNair was apparently shot in the head. I've heard things ranging from it was Steve and his girlfriend that were killed... supposedly by another mistress. Sounds like a wicked triangle that ended up going wrong. I can't confirm or deny any of this at this point..
From what I hear it occurred in downtown Nashville today.
What terrible news to hear on this 4th of July. Even though he left for Baltimore at the end of his career, Steve was well loved in Nashville. He was the face of the Titans franchise for years.
Regardless of his issues, it is a terrible loss.

I haven’t heard anything about the mistress angle, though. Man, sucks to see this guy go. He was in the prime of his life, ready to enjoy opening restaurants, things like that. I always liked him.
I was watching
Rugby and it switched over to this….Very sad news to hear.
You will be missed Steve. RIP.
Exactly what lifestyle are you referring to?
The one that leads to a QB being a finalist for the 2005 NFL man of the year? Way to try and blame the victim.

agreed: his faults weren't that egregious
He got busted for a DUI several years back and had minor issues in that area.
Other than that and adultery he was clean as far as we know. He was known as an upstanding, positive member of the community and was well loved by fans and the general public alike.
There are plenty of players I would put on the “don’t do what this guy did” list WAY before I’d put Steve on there.
Hell, I’d tell rookies to look at the guy’s work ethic and dedication to the game and say “you could learn a lot from him”.

Agreed - he was a model
Someone to follow. I’m not sure the details but it does sound like adultery was in there but that’s a personal issue that really isn’t any of our business.
He’s not hurting anyone else (save the DUI) and he’s donated a TON of his time and money to Nashville. He’s justifiably remembered as a model citizen around the city.
I'm Not Going To Judge McNair On Adultery, If That's What's Going On
Frankly, none of us know anything about him or his wife personally or what his marriage was like and there are always two sides to every story. He did good work for the community while he was alive, he generally stayed out of trouble and people liked him. Whatever he did in his personal life was his own business as long as he wasn’t going out and hurting other people.
Predictions for 2009
1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.
I didn't mean to besmirch Steve McNair.
My thought was simply referencing a previous post about what would you tell Rookies.
As you would see the whole episode is unhappy to me :(

Finalist for the 2005 NFL man of the year.
They don’t just hand those out like Grammys. Ask Will Shields.

Who cares?
So he was a finalist. I think the point trying to be made is yeah he was a good football player, but don’t live the lifestyle of cheating on your wife. No, he’s not a good man—with 4 kids now to grow up fatherless—was a 20 yr old piece really worth it? Obviously not.

I don't think it's our position to judge
And we have no idea what happened at this point. It’s his personal life and we really don’t know anything about it.

Agreed
I didn’t know McNair, I don’t know his wife, and I have no idea what went on in his marriage or his personal life. Neither does anyone else on this board I’m willing to bet. Frankly, I don’t think it’s our place to be casting any aspersions or judgments on him and from what I can tell none of it merited him getting shot.
I think in the communications age that it’s very easy for people to think that they know enough about other peoples’ lives to start casting judgments on how they live their lives in private. But they don’t have all the facts, so it’s really not their place to judge.

I think the point trying to be made is that...
murder is justified if the victim cheated on his wife. I don’t buy into that bullshit.
Viva 65tosspowertrap! The master of incoherent, nonsensical ramblings.
Just to clear my point up--
Of course murder is not justified—-and this is a terrible tragedy. Nobody knows what his familty life was about, maybe his wife was cheating on him!! But you commented to someone else " try to blame it on the victim", if you’re not lying and cheating and putting yourself in a bad position, maybe this just doesn’t happen and you still have your life. The message was, I believe, to the rookies " Don’t live this sort of lifestyle". If you’re unhappy, get a divorce and live your life making sure your kids grow up well with everything they need. I’m sorry, I feel worse for his family and kids than I do for him.

I Can Agree About The Personal Responsibility Angle As Well
If you put yourself in bad situations, bad things will probably happen to you. For McNair, I suppose the bad situation he put himself into was to date a psycho…but then again, I can’t say as that’s a problem restricted to professional athletes. Everyone makes a stupid decision sometimes, not necessarily on purpose.

+1
+2 on the stupid decisions statement.

RIP
McNair always a classy act. and a hard worker.

Such a senseless taking of life...
Our society has such a low opinion of the value of every life here on earth, that it is so easy to take such a precious gift for another person and not think twice about it. I could not stand him when the Chiefs played against him, only because of the respect I had for his talent and athleticism. He will be missed.
"But what do I know, I'm AP's new assclown and I’m like an empty room with a large ECHO"
some times you don't really notice how good someone was...
… until he’s gone. A yard away from SB champ and pretty darn good 13-3 season with baltimore. Too bad indeed.
"Toughness"
Is the word I keep hearing. Wish people could say that about me when I’m gone.
What a tragedy.
Scary
He was found dead at his girlfriends(the deceased woman) house and they’ve ruled out murder suicide.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
Adding to my list of things not to do,
twisted love triangle, wow what a tragedy, rip Steve. Man he has a child that is still pretty young, how sad.
Now hopefully this team is fun to watch again! Thanks Scott, Clark!!
he has FOUR children
Junior, Steven, Tyler and Trenton. I believe they were all with Mechelle (wife) so that means they are all still relatively young (married Mechelle in ’97)
Being a father I can’t imagine a more crushing scenario than to have my children grow up without their father. Of course it wasn’t planned – it just breaks my hear to think of those kids and what they must be going through.

man this is out of control who does that
Prayers out to the family . this guy was a class act played with a lot of heart and seemed like a pretty nice guy good leader. soorry to hear this news.
FOUR F'S FIND UM FEEL UM FUGUM FORGET UM.
He's got a son
That plays at the same Mississippi High School that Brett Favre has been practicing at. He’s being recruited as a WR.
Man, thats some really sad news
Steve was a hell of a QB and a damn good leader. I will always remember that Super bowl against the Rams….one of the best Super bowls I can remember….only a half yard away from being Super bowl champs.
My thoughts go out to the family, especially his kids….R.I.P “AIR” McNair
Zack Greinke for Cy Young!!!!!
girlfriend
they were pulled over together thursday night and the girlfriend refused the breathalyzer, her quote " i’m not drunk….i’m just REALLY high’
So What?
Apparently he liked girls who weren’t too smart. It’s a lack of judgment but not necessarily a lack of character.

Right
And not that it matters but I’d prefer someone driving high than drunk….
What his girlfriend did or didn’t do has little bearing on him and his legacy, which is all we can really debate.

You rang?
My crystal ball says that the Chiefs will not be drafting Aaron Curry. Their record at the end of 2009 will be 10-6. After witnessing the 2009 draft, their record will be 8-8.
LOL!
I love how some people think drugs=bad person.
Everyone has a messed up personal life. Everyone has skeletons in their closets. Everyone makes horrible decisions and does things for the wrong reasons. The only thing we can factually know about Steve was his career, his charity, and what his loved ones have to say about him. Anything else is speculation and I get really irritated by high and might bullshit.
