Todd Haley is Happy

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley, right, was smiling upon his team's arrival at the summer training camp dorm rooms at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Thursday afternoon. DAVID EULITT/The Kansas City Star

Todd Haley, February 6, 2009:

I’d also like to thank my wife, who is a great football wife. Wives in this business put up with a lot and she puts up with an extraordinary amount from me. My kids also, they’re a great family and they stick by me. I just want to thank them for their support. I want to thank my father who, Scott very nicely spoke about. I happen to agree with him. I’m grateful to have grown up in the atmosphere that I grew up in, with him and my mother. It’s why I’m here today, I’m convinced of that. I’m very grateful and forever indebted to my parents for what they’ve done for me. I’d also like to thank Clark Hunt and the Hunt family and the rest of the Chiefs family for this opportunity, which I’m very, very excited about getting to work.

I am happy toooo:)

Maybe someone can enlighten me on Todd’s background in his youth?
I know his father was an NFL Coach and that he was indentured? to Coach Parcells
as a young man. My question is the sometimes lack of polish to his answers.
I really like the youthfulness and optimism, but was he sheltered from the media circus?
I hope that he can retain that FUN spirit and still get the JOB done.

Not Everybody is smooth when talking to the press.

He will improve as he gets experience. There are plenty of coaches who are not the most charismatic, and some like Belichek are pretty good coaches.

He speaks the lingo just fine, far as I'm concerned.

It may always seem “choppy,” same as Belichick, because he’s being very careful. It’s the things that are left unsaid that impress me, actually. In a man as young as he is, his control is very very good. How often does he have to backtrack?

He looks a little like Bruce Springsteen

"Polish to his answers"?

I just think Haley is uncomfortable in front of the camera / microphone. No crime in that, in my book. I’ll take results on the field any day. Besides…our last Head Coach was “smooth” in front of the media, and seemed to have all the answers. What did that do for us?

Bunch of Answers

That amounted to absolutely dick. I’d rather have a guy that thinks before he speaks. Granted, you may see the hamster wheel spinnin, but at least you know his answer will be calculated.

Head coach HAS to be the pinnacle of a lifetime in and around football.

Even though the dateline appears to be February 9th, if I were in Haley’s shoes, these next few days I’d be a kid in the candy store! I get the sense that he’s been training for this job most of his life, and he has VERY clear ideas on what he wants to accomplish and how to get it done.

I see his facial expression and I have to wonder...

Is that bus about to explode? Dude seriously looks like a criminal mastermind in that photo. Keyser Soze, perhaps?

I would like to thank.............

Following in Haley’s wake here we go.

I would like to thank Clark Hunt for growing a set. I would like to thank CH for going after Pioli and then thank Pioli for going after Haley.

But mostly I would like to thank our beloved founder Lamar Hunt, for giving us the gift of our Kansas City Chiefs!
