A Thought on Tweaking
No, not Tweeting, still clueless there. NFL tweaking as in this Team is on the verge of a Super Bowl.
The Steelers need no tweaking, every other 2008 playoff team needs tweaking and aligning and/or minor adjustments. The Falcons added Tony Gonzalez, the Cardinals reworked their coaching staff, The Eagles added Jason Peters. All, they think have added that piece that will make them 2009 Super Bowl Champions. The other 20 non-playoff teams to varying degrees need more.
I have worked in IT for near on thirty years now. Tweaking is what you do to make your stuff run better.
Occasionally, some new technology comes along and you integrate it into what you already have. Thankfully I have
not had to participate in a project that was a total disaster and required the Forklift :)
The 2009 Kansas City Chiefs with past mismanagement, poor coaching, bad drafts, poor play, and bad luck
were well past tweaking to make us better this year. So, Beep Beep Beep in came the Forklift. Out with the old.
Bring on the new. Scary stuff. Those on the outside say that it's impossible. Those on the inside say we are
going to work hard to make all this work. Those on the inside have a lot more to lose with a failed project.
Their jobs and reputations!
Many here are realistic and many here are optimistic. Not a single Chiefs fan is pessimistic.
This team is going to be different, a step towards where the Chiefs and us fans want to go.
The Management wants strong, tough, smart players. The Coach wants strong, tough, smart players.
The Fans want strong, tough, smart players. THE players will be strong, tough, smart!
But, this TEAM is Transitioning. Changes in GM, HC, Coaches, Philosophy, and Players is a lot.
Sometimes change is Good, sometimes change is not Fast, and sometimes change does not Work. People
that are realistic are trying to temper those that are optimistic.
The old story, Two Bulls on a hill, One young and strong the Other older and wiser.....
You should know the story. Well, this is a season for the older and wiser. Let's take our
time down the Hill and the NFL SuperBowl Championship will be our goal! When? When we get there!
Geaux Chiefs

Sometimes it takes a several years
To get all the pieces in place. Even when a team makes sweeping changes and wholesale trades and work in free agency. I lived in Dallas when Jones and Johnson took over from Landry. The first year was probably more painful to watch than the Chiefs were last year. The second year you could really see things coming together, and they made great strides going from 1-15 to 7-9. Third year they won the Superbowl and had created a solid team that was dominant for years. Had Jones not been so stupid as to run Johnson off, who knows how long that team may have ruled.
I guess I’m pretty optimistic about what I see going on at Arrowhead. As the season progresses, we’ll see if it is realism or homerism that painted my signature line.
Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.
I truly do not think we aill be as bad as the Cowboys were that first year...
I am hoping for something a little closer to year #2.
I don't, either, 70.
Talent-wise, the only real question I have are perimeter players. And I kinda expect the Chiefs to focus on core team-building before reaching into the top drawer for perimeter guys. One thing that’s significant about Pioli and Belichick in New England, was they built from the inside out, and did it so well that they earned their rings before making any huge splash at WR (and have fallen short since they DID). And with maybe one exception, you can’t really say that the Steelers had a dominating WR corps. Tough, smart, all-around guys, led by the venerable Hines Ward, but not a whole lot of flash on that roster.
And I think the focus of the mgmt is the core of the team, getting bigger and smarter in their big men, and trying to simplify things for the speed guys to get the most out of their speed.
When you look at history and the apparently devastating early part of the Chiefs’ schedule, the oddsmakers aren’t going to project the Chiefs above .500. I am, because, in amongst the little Haley DOES say, is his intention of winning at home, and stealing a few on the road. This guy doesn’t say much, but he appears to accomplish his stated intentions. And if HE says they’re going to be a better-than-.500 team…
I think the Cowboys first year
Equates to the Chiefs last year…cleaned house and started over. I see this as more the second year improvement. I think Pioli is a better GM than Jones. Now we will find out if Haley is anywhere close to Jimmy Johnson.

the Chiefs are better
than the Cowboys were in year 1 but they also don’t have all those players and draft picks the Cowboys stole from the Vikings. Another big difference was that the NFC East in the 1980’s and 1990’s was the best division in the NFL (half the Super Bowls from 1980 – 1995 were won by an NFC East team). Although the Chargers have plenty of talent they are handicapped by their coach who always manages to get his teams to under achieve. The Broncos are also rebuilding and the Raiders….well…you know they are consistently pathetic. I think the Chiefs will be able to be decent (around .500) this year and will be competitive next year.
