When you're in search of a new career the right job recommendation can be tough to come by. I was always nervous to ask for a recommendation from a professor as I entered college or from a previous employer as I entered the job market.

But I wouldn't be so worried if some of the best in the business were giving me a thumbs up like Dick Vermeil recently did for former Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes.

Holmes attended the NFL's broadcasting bootcamp last week in the hopes of landing a new job.  The odds aren't bad considering 21 of the 40 attendees last year received jobs on the national, regional or local level.

The former Chiefs coach recommended Holmes for a spot on the NFL Network. Whether the Network bites or not has yet to be answered but Vermeil gave a strong grade to his former running back.

"Priest always had a unique response to everyday questions regarding football but expressed himself in a different way than most guys asked the same question," Vermeil said. "I thought fans might find that interesting coming from one of the great running backs like Priest Holmes."

"He has a great smile. He’s a deep thinker. He has a great personality, and for one of those studio shows, he’d do a good job. He has a great understanding of the game, and he sees the game. He sees the real unique little things in the game people ignore or don’t take time to evaluate. If they give him the right opportunity, he will be able to come across in a positive way over the air."
