Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Pioli pulls the Trigger

Saturday August 15, Houston rolls into Arrowhead for the preseason opener. 1st Rd pick Tyson Jackson
signed his contract on Aug 12 and will sit for the game. The Chiefs are in shape, prepared, and stoked
to be in Arrowhead for the 1st time this season. Cassel is a little pumped early and overthrows a couple
of passes. Haley begins to call Run, Johnson running behind Niswanger, Waters and Albert tears into the Visitors.
Happy postgame Chiefs fans roll back into the Arrowhead parking lot for some postgame fun! Chiefs head back
to River Falls.

Camp is going well. Vrabel and Waters are leading by example and the press is huffing about NO juicy stories.
The O-Line is progressing under Muir and the D-front is okay. Jackson, Tyler, and Dorsey start working together
100% of the time. The LB's are really looking good IN practice, a lot of learning going on for DJ, Tamba, and Turk.
The WR's are mixed some are doing well, especially Bowe, and others not so much.

Friday August 21, The Chiefs bus over to play the Vikings and Brett Favre, or is it Jared Allen. Well, not so
good. The Viking "D" is all over the O-line and Cassel though more accurate this week has little time to look
downfield. Again, Johnson scores and appears the Star of the Chiefs "O" effort. Thigpen has a nice night against the
Vikings 2nd unit but the Chiefs head back to break training camp losers this night.

Saturday August 29, The Seattle Seahawks fly in for the final home preseason game. Man are their wings tired.
Hasselbach looks old as the Chiefs sack him 3 times in 1st half. Cassel and Bowe put on a Show. Johnson scores
twice as the Chiefs roll Seattle. Geaux Chiefs.

Tuesday morning September 1. The NFL decides Johnson must serve a 4-game suspension to start season.
Tuesday afternoon September 1. Larry, we are letting you go. We tried trading you all morning. Good Luck.

Love the future reporting style
Jackson, Tyler, and Dorsey start working together 100% of the time.

I don’t disagree with the trio, but I think there will be a lot of rotation on the D side of the ball: for fresh legs, experimentation and for mixing up the scheme. The 20+ guys playing D will all need their helmets ready and head in the game just about the whole time, I believe. While there won’t be a lot of 2 DE/2 DT four-hands-on-the-turf sets, the term “kitchen sink” may be a better name for the Chiefs 2009 defense than a simple “3-4.” Just bettin’.

I voted WR

…only because I believe Pioli will stockpile talent when he gets the chance.

People may not vote to get a RB because they a) can’t fathom Larry getting cut at that time, or b) believe RB is one of the positions in which we have (relative) depth of okay players. I’ve been one entirely willing to get rid of LJ, but the steady quotes citing him as a model, committed player the past few weeks have got me thinking he may be hungry and humble enough to have a good season. Can something stoke his fires enough to make him run hard besides the chip that was on his shoulder the first couple years (of starting) before the big contract?

This preseason

Larry Johnson is in the same position as Ryan Succop.
No money if not on roster in Baltimore.
Succop has no huge pot of money waiting on that 1st game.
Johnson does and it is guaranteed if makes 1 snap in Baltimore.
The motivation could be over on 2nd down of 1st series of 1st game in 2009.

I would suppose....

…..that Pioli and Johnson work out a contract “restructure” before that first snap. At this point we need LJ but he needs us more. No one wants him, and I for one think he is going to play well for us this year. It’s time for Larry to grow up and learn something from this whole mess, if he doesn’t he will go from the penthouse to the out house. Lock him up for a few more years at a resonable price and fill his contract up with poison pills for his behavior. Everyone needs to realize that LJ is our best back at the moment, you don’t get rid of your best player at his position, not with the position we are in.

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Agree and hope that happens

The Chiefs in 2009 need a strong running game for Cassel to succeed and improve.

I agree....

….Everyone talks about how Cassel isn’t going to be as good without Moss and Welker but it is not like Marohney was a beast for the Pats last year. Cassel may not have the wideouts but he does have a back that, when motivated, is one of the best in the leauge. In fact I’m not totally convinced that LJ has been 100% healthy the last few years, let alone 75-90% which could be a reason for his decline in performance. Not making excuses.

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Looking forward to Aug 15 and Houston

I hope Johnson is the buffest of the Chiefs. Maybe conditioning will help his nagging injury issues as well as the rest of the team.

I'm sure Haley...

….has given a LJ his fair share of boot to the ass this offseason. I really think LJ and this line break out at some point this year. I can’t wait!

Yeah. Haley and Pioli have put in an underground fence

It will be interesting to see if Johnson’s a yard dog now, or that dumbass bird dog that gets shocked every day.

I voted do nothing

There is always the possibility of ANY player being out for 4 weeks due to a variety of things. IF Larry is on the roster for the first game, I don’t think they would look at this as anything more than an unfortunate bump in the road. If he comes back from it and plays like Larry of old he would be welcomed with open arms. If he slips in attitude an effort during the season I don’t think Pioli would hesitate to pull the trigger on a trade or to cut him. But in terms of this scenario…do nothing.

Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

Larry Johnson is going to be a 50/50 bet. imo

A little dramatization of what might be and where we would be IF.
Does Pioli try to replace a power running game? Safe choice
Or beef up the Passing game? A more Vermeil type passing attack.
Or in the scenario just work towards 2010 by trading Waters.
Pioli doesn’t to me seem the Punt type.
If Johnson starts at Baltimore, that is no guarantee that an injury or ….
does not remove him from the starting lineup later. Thanks for voting :)

Is this like some sort of "day dream" post...I'm confused

Again, another person with a personal axe to grind against lj…the guy isn’t going anywhere…Haley and Pioli want to win..They don’t care whether the player likes kc or the kc fans..Obviously you do though

To both

I am not wishing this to happen. just wondering out loud what might be Pioli’s response to such a situation as described. The NFL seems to be very serious about making examples of poor conduct.
Vick and Plax are currently permanently banned. Stallworth also. Grain of salt needed here.
I think a 4 game suspension might be in quite a few players futures this year. A Conviction in a court might all the commissioner needs for an excuse.

If those are the choices, I’d be glad to see Johnson cut and Pioli do nothing. My second choice would be to sign a FA wideout, assuming there’s one on the market, but I doubt there will be anyone of consequence out there.

But please, oh please, get rid of Larry Johnson.

As long as that’s a euphemism for being put in the corner with a dunce cap on his head, I guess that’s fine.
