The Five Players You Would Want to be Kansas City Chiefs

From the FanPosts. Perfect Friday topic. -Chris

A couple of weeks ago I saw an interesting topic posted over on Pats Pulpit and thought it would be interesting to post here. The topic, as the title suggests, is to pick any five players (and preferably provide a reason) currently not a Chief that you would like to see in a Kansas City uniform. I'm sure we'll see similarities with other fans in the league, but it still should be interesting. I'll start with my five, pictures included!

Ryan Clady (LT)  I would love to see Clady come to the Chiefs and provide our new QB with bookend (future) Pro Bowl tackles for the next decade. I don't care who is on what side, Albert and Clady together provide the foundation for a solid-at-worst line.

Demarcus-ware_medium

via i.cdn.turner.com

DeMarcus Ware (OL) With 3 Pro Bowl selections at the age of 26, Ware is the lone Cowboy I would actually want on my team. Ware is one of the best young LB's and would provide a great partner for DJ.

Andre Johnson (WR) A little controversy? Maybe. I would take Johnson over Fitzgerald. With these additions the Chiefs would have one of the fiercest defenses and an offense on the rise. Johnson would be the best receiver in the league with a team that would live up to its potential. Either one would be a great addition, but I would choose him over Fitzgerald.

Nfl_w_nmangold_195_medium

Nick Mangold (C) The young Jets center also has a Pro Bowl under his belt and would put us one step closer to a return to the offensive line glory we once experienced.

Mayo_roty-2_medium

Jerod Mayo (ILB) The defensive ROY would destroy the middle next to DJ and Ware. Throw whoever else you want in as the 4th LB among these three and you have potential for one of the greatest linebacking corps in the history of game.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Tough

But the five I would chooose would be, in no particular order:

-Vince Wilfork. Put him alongside Dorsey and Tyson Jackson on the line and that is one scary looking DLine, that is if they live up to their potential, Dorsey and Jackson. This would be one solid line and one that would be very hard to get by and penetrate. Sure would be nice to have Dorsey, Jackson, and Wilfork.

-James Harrison. Last years Defensive player of the year, and the man who made the key play, a 100yd interception return that gave the superbowl to pittsburgh. He sure would help put sacks on the board and pair up with DJ Thomas and Vrabel.

-Larry Fitzgerald. Not only would he be back with his former OC coach, he’d be lining up along with Bowe at receiver. These two would make out for one hell of a duo. Dare I say better than Fitz & Boldin? I think Fitz & Bowe, not only sounds better, but would be better.

-Jared Allen. What I would do to have him back. Him alone in his last season in KC put up more sacks than anyone else in the league, and put more sacks up than our defense alone last year. 6.5 more. I hate Peterson & Co. for trading him away. He was heart & soul of our defense. He was and still is one of the top 5, if not 3 defensive ends, just wish it was in red and gold.

-Adrian Peterson. Man this guy is explosive. Probably the best RB in the league right now. I’d love to have him on our team right now over LJ any day of the week. He is just an outstanding back to me. He’s got the speed to get down field and get by defenders and he’s got the power to truck through defenders to keep going and racking those yards. Amazing to watch. Hey he’s even not a bad receiving back either, that’s always a plus.

Would you have Jared Allen

put on weight to play 3-4 DE, or lose weight to play 3-4 OLB?

Either way, you’re hurting his potential…he is a 4-3 DE, period. Making him bulk up to play DE would slow him down, and his one weakness has always been run defense…so maybe you ask him to drop to 260 lbs. and play OLB, but how will he do in pass coverage?

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

Jared Allen

I would simply put things back to place that made Allen succeed. If it means a 4-3 so be it. That’s what he succeeded and thrived in. Put him back in that situation. He will still manage and be successful. He was for a reason.

I hate to tell you guys this

but if Allen were still on the team, he’d be making the transition to 3-4 OLB just like Hali is

I think Pioli wants this defense to be exclusively a 3-4 as soon as possible. This hybrid thingy is just a transition until we have time to get the personnel Pioli wants.

by PVChiefsfan on Jul 17, 2009 12:42 PM CDT up reply actions

No Way

Allen I don’t think would be an extrodinary OLB. He’s better suited as a DE. If we still had him I don’t think he’d be going to OLB. I really don’t. He’s a killer end.

Easy

Ryan Clady, Larry Fitzgerald, Terrel Suggs, Vince Wilfork, and Adrian Peterson

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

by 808NaNz808 on Jul 17, 2009 1:04 AM CDT reply actions

reasoning

The heart and sole of a team lies in the teams QB and it’s ability to get to the QB

Clady- Clady was the best LT in the league as a rookie. Slide Albert over to RT and we’ve got a dominant o line for Matt Cassel to sit behind

Fitzgerald- Paired with Bowe, Bradley, and Engram there are threats on every level for Cassel to throw to. This receiving core would arguably be even more dangerous than what Cassel left behind in New England.

Suggs- Young and is the best at what he does. He is the definition of what a DE/OLB should be and his versatility would bring the entire defense to another level.

Wilfork- The best at what he does like Suggs is to the OLB/DE position, Wilfork is the NT every 3-4 wishes they had. Then you take into account that he’s young.

Peterson- The most complete back in the league, he does it all. He catches blocks and runs, but more importantly he’s a threat to take it to the house on every play. Michael Turner showed us how much a good running game can do for the development of a young QB. Peterson’s presence would definitely make Cassel look better.

Time is a great teacher... unfortunately it kills all it's pupils.

I'm going to avoid obvious answers and choose...

- Jeff Otah
- DeSean Jackson
- Chris Johnson
- Vince Young (Only if we run the ArrowSpread)
- Patrick Willis

by Dono on Jul 17, 2009 1:06 AM CDT reply actions

Vince Young?

DeSean Jackson?
Jeff Otah?
There are better options in each case. But I can see Pat Willis maybe Chris Johnson (but we already have a speedy back in Jamaal Charles)

Charles is so not even comparable to Chris Johnson

I could get more sacks with my sack

they run the same but chris johnson just gets it done

charles needs to step up his game. He could be the next westbrook in my opinion if he really focuses cuz he is dangerous we just need to get him more touches on screen plays

CJ just runs a lot stronger than Charles does, and is faster. Charles I believe is lil more shifty and is more likely to make people miss on the cut.

Patience....

…the big difference is enough patience to allow your holes to open, Chris sees alot of them but Jamaal isn’t seeing them yet. Priest was the best at this and is what I think made him an all time great. Also Larry Johnson had this problem when he came into the leauge it wasn’t until he spent lots of time watching Priest that he finally gave it a try. For what it’s worth, I think part of LJ struggles of late are because he has reverted back to some of his old habits.

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

by BigRedChief on Jul 18, 2009 1:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmmm....

1. Calvin Johnson- the most underrated player in the league even moreso then nnamdi. i might get crucified for this but i strongly believe Johnson is hands down the best WR talent in the league. this is a guy that plays with no other threat on the field to draw attention and getting the ball from Kitna, Culpepper, Stanton(who?) and “Ohhhh thats the back of the endzone?” Orlovsky and under those circumstances put up near Larry Fitzgerald numbers.

2. Jordan Gross- very underrated LT but immensely skilled. he would allow us to move albert inside to his natural position and send waters packing to another team for a draft pick.

3. Adrian Peterson- enough said…

4. Mario Williams- after being the laughing stock at the draft of the year of Reggie Bush no ones laughing anymore. This guy is just a beast. He’s good in all aspects of his game and is rightfully a number 1 pick.

5. Terrell Suggs- the best tweener in the game. harrison was good last year but Suggs is consistent year in and out and is still young and has alot of years left.

my five

Good post for a day like this!

Tom Brady
Adrian Peterson
Larry English (Yes, I think he’s going to be that good)
Aaron Kampman
James Farrior

wait

I think I meant James Harrison. Then again, any James would be a starter in our LB corps hehe

Hard one...so many good players. Great post for today!

I’m going with..

Payton Manning (Toss up with Brady)
Larry Fitzgerald (Heh, is there any better?)
Devin Hester (Multi-tasking home-run hitter)
NIck Mangold (Pencil him in as the best in the league at center)
Terrell Suggs (Almost went with Adalius Thomas, but I think Suggs has a better mean streak.)

My List

1. Calvin Johnson
2. Nick Mangold
3. Ryan Clady
4. Davin Joseph
5. Ben Grubbs

I’m okay with the direction the defense is heading in, but that o-line needs serious upgrades outside of Branden Albert. Add these five guys and the Chiefs have a top 5 offense.

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.

by UCrawford on Jul 17, 2009 8:54 AM CDT reply actions

My only question is what would you do with Albert?

by Lanier63 on Jul 17, 2009 8:56 AM CDT up reply actions

Move Him To RT

Nothing against Albert’s skills, but Clady is a better pass-blocker and Albert would fit very well on the right. You’d then have a dominant o-line for the next five years. They’re all among the tops at their positions and are all 25 or younger.

Albert is very talented and the Chiefs are fortunate to have him. He definitely needs some help brought in next offseason, though.

by JComp11 on Jul 17, 2009 9:05 AM CDT up reply actions

Not Really

They aren’t that tough to come by via the draft. And the Chiefs need a dominant line more than anything. I’d choose either a linebacker or d-lineman with my #6 pick, though.

Wow, my first fanpost and its on the front page! Nice responses. For those with Petereson or other running backs, I stayed away from them because that’s one of the easier positions to draft. Bringing in talented linemen with NFL experience would be huge for this team and could make any RB great.

by JComp11 on Jul 17, 2009 9:00 AM CDT reply actions

Also considering age...

Calvin Johnson
Shawne Merriman
Ryan Clady
All Day
Jeremy Maclin

Calvin-Another beast at WR who is young, could pair with Bowe to provide a crazy 1-2 punch for many years to come.

Shawne-Answers the rush OLB, young, takes him away from division rival.

Clady-Stabilizes our line with young talented bookends, again steals him away from a division rival.

All Day-Beast at RB who is young, solves our backfield questions, and gives defenses fits as they cant put 8 in the box with the Dbowe show and Megatron.

Maclin-Kind of a homer pick, could be the answer at returned that we have missed since Dante.

by BAMFSpecialOps on Jul 17, 2009 9:19 AM CDT reply actions

Merriman, are you out of your mind?

Seriously… Merriman? Don’t forget that he was pumped up on illegal anabolic steroids when he delivered the hit that ended Priest’s career. Merriman got off light (too light!) and laughs about it to this day.

If Merriman ever wears a Chiefs jersey, I’ll stop being a Chiefs fan… I mean that.

Damn straight!....

….that dude should have been kicked in whats left of his balls. Goddel lost a lot of my respect when he allowed that guy to be DPOY after being suspended! Now what kind of example is he setting?

by BigRedChief on Jul 18, 2009 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions

No....not out of my mind...

Merriman is who I picked. Not like it’s going to happen(Unless he hits FA next year and the Don snatches him up). So no need to get all riled up.

by BAMFSpecialOps on Jul 18, 2009 3:00 PM CDT up reply actions

How about...

1. WR Andre Johnson – Without a doubt, the best WR in the game! He and Bowe would give D-Coordinators a headache.

2. RB Chris Johnson – Have you seen this guy run??? He can fly!!!!

3. MLB Patrick Willis – What can I say? He’s a tackling machine!

4. DT – Vince Wilfork – He’d be perfect for our new 3-4 Defense.

5. DE/OLB Shawne Merriman – I know, I know….he’s a Charger, but it would be nice to have a guy with his rushing ability on our side for once….plus we would take away the biggest defensive threat in our division, in my opinion!

by kc_balla_89 on Jul 17, 2009 9:39 AM CDT reply actions

my 5

Shawne Merriman- Assuming he’s back at full strength this year… he makes the defense fierce. (honorable mention: Patrick Willis)

Troy Polamalu- Brings energy and athleticism. the Chiefs have good safeties… but this guy brings a whole other level. (honorable mention: Bob Sanders…when healthy)

Calvin Johnson- this guy is a freak. What a waste that he’s a Lion. Line him up with Bowe… scary. (honorable mention: Andre Johnson)

Jake Long- I wanted to pick one of the best young OL in the game… I think Long is the real deal, and I am tired of hearing about Clady. Bookend with Albert for the next 12yrs. (honorable mention: Eugene Monroe… would have liked that pick)

Adrian Peterson- Best RB in the game, probably the most exciting football player overall… bring him in, get rid of LJ… (honorable mention: Chris Johnson)

by stagdsp on Jul 17, 2009 9:40 AM CDT reply actions

in no particular order...

Jared allen

Chris johnson

Anquan boldin

Troy polamalu

Tony gonzales

Hard to think that we’ve given up two of these guys…
Johnsons a stud. Stupid fast, would be a good lightning to LJs thunder.
Q- honestly one of my favs. He has some issues, but could u imagine him and bowe doing corner routes in the end zone? Who do u throw it up to then?

A Twist

I compiled 5 players that were taken in this years draft I would love to see as Chiefs

OLB Arron Curry- Obvious choice here, LB position would be an immidiate strength with Curry

OT Eugene Monroe- Slide Albert to RT and the Virginia bookends would turn our line to a team strength for the next decade

WR Michael Crabtree- With Bowe Chiefs now would have a dual threat a la AZ Cards with this versatile wideout

TE Brandon Pettigrew- Heir to the now departed TG keeps KC a tight end powerhouse

LB James Laurinaitis- 3-4 Ds need LB depth, Chiefs LB corps needs youth and depth, along with Curry and Derrick Johnson, LB should be a team strength for years to come.

by sandpro on Jul 17, 2009 10:36 AM CDT reply actions

Interesting. Monroe was my choice in the draft but I’m happy with Jackson. We’d have an amazing team in the next 2 or 3 years that’s for sure.

by JComp11 on Jul 17, 2009 11:00 AM CDT up reply actions

like it

I’d pick:
Curry (versatile and smart OLB of the future)
Monroe (bookend tackle)
Maclin (for return specialist/WR)
Rey Maualuga (an animal at ILB)
Max Unger (versatile C)

Cassel protected by Albert and Claddy throwing to Calvin Johnson, Fitzgerald, and Bowe….gives me the shivers. Then shore up the d with the defensive player of the year and Wilfork to destroy the NT position…BAH!

I left out a running back because I think offense we will be running will only call for system backs. We don’t need a big name back, we make a big name back.

Merriman

if it meant he’d bring that spaz-dance with him then he can stay put for all I care.

I don’t want him or Rivers… or pretty much any Charger for that matter. He is what the French call – Le Bag du Douche

We could have had 2 of the 5, JComp11

Ryan Clady (12th overall in 2008) – instead KC selected Dorsey 5th overall instead
Nick Mangold (29th overall in 2006) – instead KC selected Tamba Hali 20th overall instead

Andre Johnson, Demarcus Ware weren’t available for KC to draft during that year. However, Jerod Mayo came out the year we drafted Dorsey, therefore I prefer Clady over Mayo.

Hopefully with Don Pioli’s revamped scouting group, we can better use our draft picks to find game changers, not just a player that starts.

And here’s my 5:

Shawn Merriman
Haloti Ngata
Frank Gore
Ed Reed
Dwayne Bowe (yes, I’m actually happy we have him – one of the bright spots in KC’s draft the past 10 years)

Let’s hope that Tyson Jackson can convinced all of us to put him in our list to replace one of the 5.

Predictions as of 06.24.2009.

Larry Johnson will be a top 3 fantasy pick once again in 2010 (after a monster season in 2009.)
Dwayne Bowe will be a 2009 Pro Bowl selection.
Brandon Flowers will have at least 6 INTs in 2009 season.
Todd Haley will have a sideline shouting match caught on TV yelling at one of his asst. coaches.

Imagine Trying To Trade Hali For Mangold Now

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum would probably lose consciousness from laughing so hard. Fucking idiot Peterson.

5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.

by UCrawford on Jul 17, 2009 7:01 PM CDT up reply actions

I’m happy with the Dorsey pick. We had Wiegmann when Mangold was drafted if I remember right so if Hali’s not the pick I don’t think people would’ve been happy with taking Mangold.

by JComp11 on Jul 17, 2009 9:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I Would Have Been Happy With Taking Mangold

Tamba Hali was considered a reach when he was drafted in 2006 and he’s done nothing since then to prove that assessment wrong. He’s gotten worse every year he’s been in the league and now he’s got to learn a new position just to secure a spot on the roster whereas Mangold is now arguably the best player at his position (and a key position at that). So yes, I would have been happy with the Mangold pick…especially once I saw how Hali worked out for some other team.

Nothing against Wiegmann, but the guy’s no Mangold and he wasn’t a young player in 2006 so o-line should definitely have been a consideration at that point.

I Also Would Have Been Happy With Davin Joseph

Tamba Hali was a horrible draft pick by Peterson. He can’t rush the passer without Jared Allen taking attention away from him and he can’t stuff the run. As far as I’m concerned, the guy’s a bust.

As For Dorsey

I think in the right system he’s an excellent player, but the Chiefs are having to move him around after one season and that doesn’t bode well for his long-term production here. Solid player, but a bust for the Chiefs for a #5 pick (although only because the defense changed and Dorsey’s not really a fit for what the Chiefs are now doing…which isn’t his fault). I just think the wrong team drafted him.

Not even close to a bust...

Even in his new position he wont be a bust, not to mention that fact that we could probably trade him today for a first and 3rd or 4th and there would be takers. If Dorsey wasnt a fit he would be gone. Theres no way Pioli keeps a player that doesnt “fit” when he can still get a ton in return for him.

I’d at least give Dorsey a few games, if not an entire season, at the position to decide whether or not he was bust at the pick.

I am so proud of AP :)

other than a couple of comments
QB was not an issue and QB is THE spot to improve a team.
My thoughts on five would be:

LB Derrick Thomas – as the Predator
NT Dan Salameau – QB is a Pig Roast
G Will Shields – Waters to RG
WR Carlos Carson – Deep threat
RB The Nigerian Nightmare Christian Okoye – Cassels’ power Back

I cheated, so sue me :)

Wes Welker (compliment to Bowe)
Jason Whiten (younger Tony G, maybe not quite as good)
Albert Haynesworth (he may not be the best character guy, but winning fixes a lot)
DeMarcus Ware (the dude is a beast)
Nick Mangold (Good Cetners are underrated I think, they call all the line audibles pretty much run the show)

1. DeMarcus Ware. He and Derrick Johnson were the two guys I wanted KC to draft the year they went pro, and I’d be thrilled if both of them were on the team. Ware would provide a great blitzing/pass-rush threat that does not currently exist in KC.
2. Calvin Johnson. Need explanation? He’s not performing quite so amazingly as Fitz or maybe one or two other guys, but he’s younger, bigger, emerging rapidly, and would be terrific with a decent quarterback throwing to him.
3. Adrian Peterson. It’s time KC had a real running back. Larry Johnson’s been overrated since his senior year of college.
4. Kevin Williams. Talk about your ideal big end/tackle hybrid for the new defense.
5. Peyton Manning. I admit that I’m anti-Manning, and I think the guy’s sort of a douche, but there’s still not a better QB in the football world, including Brady.
