Chargers to Score 535 Points this Season!

That's right, you heard it here first...actually you heard it over at Bolts from the Blue. Apparently, according to predictions over there made a couple of days ago, the Chargers are going to go 14-2 and outscore their opponets 535-335. Somebody pass me the acid stamps. http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2009/7/14/948740/2009-predictions-and-hopes

Yep, the Chargers are going to avarage 33.4 points per game while their defense will give up only 20.9 points. They will score a mere 54 points less than the prolific New England Patriots Offense of 2007 that went 16-0.

I am guilty of probably being overly optimistic about the Chiefs. I have written articles claiming I think they can win 9 or 10 games if they get a few lucky bounces but this is perposterous. If the Chargers didn';t score 500 points when LT wasin his prime they sure as heck aren't going to do it now...and not in a season where they play the Giants, Eagles and Steelers. That is just absurd.

And now a picture gallery; Enjoy

I'm beginning to hate the Chargers more than the Bronco's and Raiders

Raiders are just sad.
Broncos at least have a history of winning.

What the eff has San Diego ever done? I can’t think of a team thats done less with more. Act like you’ve been there before, and quit running off your collective mouths. You were 2 plays away from being 0-2 against a team coached by Herm Freaking Edwards.

WTF?

Did these guys sleep through last year or WHAT!? They should of woke up, because their in a false sense of security. They will be lucky to go 10-6 much less 9-7. They also forgot LT is on the wrong side of 30, he is done. He’ll do very little this year. I wouldn’t be suprised if LJ out performs LT. Woooow they crack me up. They will be lucky to have a better record then Denver or Oakland. I honestly believe SD finishes 3rd in the AFC West.
They really gave me a good laugh. That guy was full of ****!

Did I mention they were absolutely hilarious!?

I happened to visit the Bolts site, yesterday, and read that post.

What a coincidence.

Easy enough to make such a prediction, when a homer looks at every game, predicts a score and then, suddenly, at the end of the whole article, arrives at a ridiculous total.

The Bolts fans are actually pretty smart, same as you guys here are about your Chiefs. And there were responses to that initial post that were much more realistic. You might be surprised to learn that among the cooler heads were a NUMBER of Bolts fans saying “Don’t count on sweeping the Chiefs!” There are plenty of Bolts fans who know they dodged two bullets last season against the Chiefs.

I can easily see a similar homer FanPost here on AP come to similar conclusions about the Chiefs’ ’09 season. And saner heads prevailing in the comments section. All in good fun.

by hmills110 on Jul 18, 2009 2:05 AM CDT reply actions

Thank you

That post was made by a fan. He loves the Chargers and is one of our better commenters, but he’ll freely admit that he’s a homer and has a hard time ever predicting a Chargers loss. You’ll notice that the title of his posts is “2009 Predictions and Hopes”.

However, to show that he’s not COMPLETELY insane, there is a basis. The Chargers 2006 season set the bar quite high and we, as fans, want to reach it again. That season, the Chargers went 14-2. They scored 492 points and gave up only 303. The point differential (189) is only 11 off from what Buck predicted. It’s not like he predicted the Lions to go 16-0 or something, he just thinks the Chargers can produce the same kind of regular season success in 2009 that they had in 2006.

Thanks, John

Not that I need too much backing from the folks who post here.

First of all, thanks for the kind remarks. I can dish it out with the best if you want to sling it, but your site rules say that rudeness will not be tolerated under any circumstances. So now we can already establish that many of you are hypocrites on top of being clueless.

My wife is a Chief’s fan, so I don’t just automatically discount your team – not even this year with your pathetic OL who wouldn’t be able to keep Cassell or Thigpen clean if they played on Oriental carpets.

Now – 535 points. That’s right – 214 (40%) of it to come against our pitiful AFC West opponents, another 183 against the likes of the Fins, Skins, Browns, Bengals, & Cowboys, for a total percentage of 74%. To predict 24 against the Titans, 27 against the Giants & Ravens, & 20 against the Steelers is no stretch. Our largest point total, 45, is in what I predict to be both a shootout & a Charger loss with Philly.

The Patriots scored 589 points in their 16-0 run. In 1998, with the likes of Randall Cunningham, Robert Smith, Cris Carter, and rookie Randy Moss, the Vikes posted a 15-1 record & scored a total of 556 points. Randall Cunningham, with a lifetime passer rating of 81.5. Robert Smith at RB – 1187 yds., 8 TDs in 1998. The point differential between the Vikes & their opponents that year was 260 points – 60 less than I predict. Yeah – I think our guys can match these totals.

Phillip Rivers, the badass country boy who owns the rest of the AFC West teams, is tied with the precious Mr. Brady for both active & career passer rating at 92.9. Mock him all that you want – I’m sure that he’ll say a prayer for your poor souls while he’s yukking it up over the drubbings that he consistently hands out. That’ll be the same Phillip Rivers who led the NFL in 2008 in passer rating (105.5), passing TD’s (34), yards/attempt (8.4), & passing TD % (7.1), who led us to 7th overall in passing offense. All after coming back from reconstructive knee surgery at the end of the 2007 playoffs. Playoffs – remember what those are?

As for LT – don’t even start when you have Mr. Diaper-wearer as your guy. LT had a down year, worst since his rookie season – and still gained over 1500 yards in total offense with 12 TD’s. The Chargers were 20th overall in rushing – better than AZ, better than Pittsburgh, better than 3 more of our 2009 opponents.

Yep – we had a tough year last year. Never gave up & still came out on top. Things will be much different on the defensive side of the ball this year, gentlemen and ladies. Ron Rivera is going to have your QB stepping, fetching, & failing. When the dust clears, my prediction (admittedly) may be overly optimistic. What it won’t be is wrong concerning the Chiefs.

Now excuse me while I go watch the video of Merriman turning the lights out on Priest Holmes. Maybe you all should go play “Where’s Tony”?

Lame...
So now we can already establish that many of you are hypocrites on top of being clueless.

Clueless? Says the guy who predicted 535 points for the next season? Also there is an special exception to general rudeness when it comes to Charger, raider, donkey fans. We just avoid the personal attacks when possible.

Your pathetic OL who wouldn’t be able to keep Cassell or Thigpen clean if they played on Oriental carpets

We’ll see on the OL next year. It’s far from where I’d like to see it, but I think with the mobility of our 1 and 2, the addition of Bill Muir, and picking up Goff is going to help us out a lot. Say what you will about Goff, the guy has been working his ass off so far and I’m excited to see what he has left in the tank.

To predict 24 against the Titans, 27 against the Giants & Ravens, & 20 against the Steelers is no stretch. Our largest point total, 45, is in what I predict to be both a shootout & a Charger loss with Philly.

You’re going to have quite the time with the Steelers and the Ravens. Especially with Rivers running his mouth. Hes going to get another ride on the roller coaster from Mr.Woodley

Phillip Rivers, the badass country boy who owns the rest of the AFC West teams…. Playoffs – remember what those are?

I respect Rivers and his talent. You guys have a solid QB to work with…but a badass? Hardly…. I put him somewhere between a kitten and Richard Simmons.

If you call 8-8 and then getting your ass kicked by the steelers being on top, then I could see that happening again next year (minus the playoff run =]). You guys are a good team, but you can dig your own grave underestimating the chiefs. Also, for as bad as we have been, you guys still barely scraped a win from us. I wouldn’t be too cocky.

Anyway, cheers to the season.

"Playoffs – remember what those are?"

The only stat that really matters are championships. Championship – does anyone remember those? I know I don’t and I am certain the only ones you might remember you would rather forget. But OK here ya go:

Championships – remember what those are?

Superbowls – SD 0 KC 1 (SB IV) Along time ago yes but it still counts.

I’ll go further: AFL Championships – SD 1 (63) KC 3 (62,66,69)

Such Terrible Drubbings
Mock him all that you want – I’m sure that he’ll say a prayer for your poor souls while he’s yukking it up over the drubbings that he consistently hands out.

A total of 2 points last year with a 2-14 team to whoop up on. We are definitely shaking in our boots.

Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

I didn’t mention Hochuli because, unlike some, I don’t need to use the refs for an excuse. We allowed Eddie Royal to beat us – twice.

Who's PR?

Ron Rivera is the only thing slowing down the Chargers continual drop off since Marty left. Happens to every team that gets rid of Schottenheimer, look at Cleveland, KC, Washington, and now the Bolts.

Thank’s for making my point, if not for two gift wrapping sessions, the Chargers would have a losing record against a team that was so pitiful it only won 6 games over the last two years – yea that would make me want to come to a Chiefs site to talk smack!

PR=Phillip Rivers

At least try to act like you know something about the AFC West. It’s tough looking up from the basement, I’m sure. Try turning a light on.

I’ll make it simple for you – AFC West 2009 standings

Chargers
Raiders

PR is not exactly a common acronym - try to remember your not on the Bolts site.

I’m glad you gave me the 2009 final standings, because in January 2010, it ain’t going to look nothing like that!

The only Charger with a commonly known acronym I know of is LT (although I prefer LDT so as to not confuse him with the real LT, Lawrence Tynes, I mean Lawrence Taylor LOL)

I hope you keep your predictions and look back on them at the end of the year, oh by the way, I did predict the Bolts to be 10-6 on your site (assuming the Raiders don’t get smart and start Garcia, then your looking at another 8-8 year, sorry), so I really am not trying to bash your team.

As for our Chiefs, we have a brutal schedule to start with, but there have been some key additions, Vrabel, Zach Thomas, Mike Brown, and of course Matt Cassell. From where I sit, both teams have a ceiling of about 12 wins and a floor of about 6 wins. Even if I wasn’t a homer, I would be looking at a possible sweep for KC this year against San Diego.

Some of my favorite players have been Bolts, Drew Brees was and is now even more incredible, how do you let him go? I used to wish that Derrick Thomas and Junior Seau were on the same team – wow! And I really like Darren Sproles. I’m just not much of a fan of cry-babies like Cutler and Rivers, and don’t get me going on the Barry Bonds of football you call lights out.
