July 2009 Todd Haley Approval Poll

Photo

We are five months and eleven days into the Todd Haley era in Kansas City. The Chiefs' head coach had a decent amount of media interaction recently, especially in the month of June. He held multiple press conferences talking about OTAs and had a couple of good interviews.

Here are some links back to what Todd Haley has been involved with since early June:

The big news of course is that the Chiefs signed Matt Cassel two days ago. Scott Pioli got a bump from that I think when we asked you about him yesterday. Will the same happen for Haley? Make sure you vote in that Pioli poll too.

Let us know what you think. How is Todd Haley doing as the Kansas City Chiefs head coach?

Previous results:

June 2009: 71%

May 2009: 64%

April 2009: 69%

Preseason Approval Polls Are Kind Of Pointless

For a first time, first year coach who hasn’t coached one meaningful game for the team. That’s not a slam on Haley, just saying that until the games start there’s just nothing to judge.

He makes his players work out. I guess that merits approval. He shows up to work I assume. I guess that’s a plus too. Let’s see, what else? He wears Chiefs hats in most of his picks instead of hats for some other team. So right there we should probably be stoked.

:)

Predictions for 2009

1. Todd Haley's going to struggle with managing his staff in his rookie year as head coach.
2. The Lions will draft Matt Stafford, the Rams will draft Jason Smith, and the Chiefs will draft either Aaron Curry or Eugene Monroe.
3. Maurice Carthon will be the most hated man on the Chiefs' coaching staff within two years.
4. Larry Johnson has already played his last meaningful game for the Kansas City Chiefs. He's gone before the 2009 season starts.
5. Larry Johnson will gain 0 yards rushing for the 2009 Kansas City Chiefs.

Ha

I know what you mean…it’s more just to have a monthly gauge of how fans are feeling towards the top three men in charge of the team. It’ll be more interesting a year from now when we have 15 months worth.

bah

The point is I’m hyped up by Haley’s offseason words and the few actions we’ve been privy of, particularly the pace he runs his camps and the conditioning he requires of his players. I’m behind Haley. If I end up being wrong, so be it. But I’m comfortable saying now that I think he was a great addition to this organization and I like what I’ve heard so far.

But he can win 22 games with 2 guys off the street

Or was it the other way around? Either way, he’s got moxie!

by Pilcrow on Jul 16, 2009 9:45 AM CDT up reply actions

I think it is pretty clear

that Haley takes the strength and conditioning aspect very seriously, and that encourages me.

Marley will be walking soon...she could probably play Linebacker better than some of the guys we had.

by PVChiefsfan on Jul 16, 2009 9:47 AM CDT up reply actions

I think...

Its more of an approval rating of what he’s done so far. We’ve had plenty of exposure to him and the offseason program on this site and theres more then enough infomation there to make a judgement call on his ability as a coach through these first few months. More of a judge him on what he can be judged on and not on what he hasnt tackled yet.

Maybe some of the rating is a comparison to what could be.

Herm, McDaniels, Cable, would you say that you approve Haley over what they might or have done so far this off-season.

I think that

we have some to go off of. The guys that were on the team with Herm have all said that the conditioning is much different and more difficult. We can tell that Haley’s mentality is that if we are going to lose its not because we aren’t getting out worked! From this, we at least have something to approve or dissapprove IMO.

Whats up fellow Chief fans!

I’ve been a daily reader of AP for almost two years now and thought it was time to finally sign up and join the maddness. Hello to everyone! After what we’ve had for the past few years as a head coach, I don’t see how anyone could disapprove at this point.

Welcome to AP....officially I guess!

I know I just hung out for awhile before I couldn’t keep my mouth shut.

Chiefs go 9-7. LJ makes 1400 yards. DBowe makes 1200 yards. Defense #18.

He's more than I expected so far

I was more skeptical at first… an OC with no head coaching experience… a guy I had never even heard of until the playoffs. But he seems like he “gets it” and I have a feeling we will have some wins this year. We still need a wide receiver opposite Bowe though. A right tackle would be nice too.

Don't really see what there is to dis-like

He’s changed the entire attitude of the team within the first few months of being here.

After Herm’s tenure, I can’t help but be excited for a new attitude in KC and I think that it starts with Haley.

Sometimes I feel like UC is rooting against the Chiefs. I think your signature is a little dated dude. Replace a couple of your predictions with a couple more that don’t pan out.

by Chief Crazy on Jul 16, 2009 10:25 AM CDT reply actions

nah

UC helps keep us grounded with his cold rationalism and cynicism. I’m not sure whether he does it for kicks or whether he really isn’t excited about the team this year. Maybe he’ll chime in.

If you start the season off prepared for failure, then your disappointment level is lowered later on if your team doesn’t “succeed”. I can’t really fault a person for looking at things like that. I just choose not to be that way because I don’t want my feelings of euphoria in the midst of success to be subdued.

well in my opinion i rather go down in burning flames with my team rather

than prepare myself in my opinion . if you would have told me the arizona cardinals were going to the super bowl i would have thrown my rootbeer in your face punched u and said no bird from arizona will ever fly in the super bowl but low and behold they were there. Point is you always have to have faith its ok i guess to be a realist but im sure no one in arizona even maybe the team had doubt they would get to the super bowl yooooooooouuuuu neeeever knoooooow. Chiefs might win the division this year we might get hot win some close play off games and we are there you never know . so as i said i rather have big faith in my team and go down in flames crash in burn with the team I love.

As long as I come out like

DJ AM in a plane crash (alive), I’m good with supporting the Chiefs through thick and thin. I’ll bitch, moan, and vent, but I’ll be watching every Sunday (and hopefully Monday).

I have to agree with the attitude change in kc

I mean we are getting that i dont know whats the hell is going on factor just like new england had. Hopefully our coaches can come up with good schemes i think our offense will flourish just becuz we have two offensive coordinators that are at the top of their game . Im more worried about our defense thats going to be the factor that puts us over the edge to have a good season. If we can just get dj to stand out and dorsey to work in this scheme then we will be right on track other wise it will be another long season. im hoping for the best at this point im sure we will do alot better this year we had some close games last year a lot of heartbreakers that could have went any way and we didnt even have half the talent we do now on the d and offensive side.

Approve, and it his has nothing to do with Cassel

I gave Pioli the thumbs up yesterday for a few reasons but he did get a bump in my mind for signing Cassel. I’m giving Haley my approval here for changing the attitude of the Chiefs and the tone of their training. I had been withholding judgment until we win games but I’m glad to see we finally have an HC that can, a. make it through a press conference without crying (Vermeil) and b. knows he needs to motivate the players to be their best instead of being liked by them (Herm). We haven’t had that kind of coach since Marty. So, based solely on what he’s done so far, I approve of Haley’s style. Now he just needs to win us some games ;)

by Chiefs4Life on Jul 16, 2009 11:31 AM CDT reply actions

The culture has changed and Haley is part of that...

I know he hasnt coached a game in the NFL but no one can really argue with his preperation and how he’s preparing his players for when the games come. The mindset, makeup and physicality of the players has totally changed under Haley. Also he definitely gets points for how he handled the Waters scenario when mandatory camp came around as well as the bowling and two days off that he gave the players for their hardwork.
