Worst Whitlock column ever?

I am up late on the west coast and I just read Whitlock's column about Randy Moss and Matt Cassel's contract extension.  I realize Whitlock is a complete joke and writes outrageous things to get a rise out of people and further himself as a celebrity commentator, but suggesting that Tom Brady has ridden the "Randy Moss gravy train" is about the most moronic thing he could ever publish.  Brady without Moss = 3 Superbowl wins.  Brady with Moss = 0 Superbowl wins.  Yeah, poor Tom Brady.  He was a complete nobody until Randy Moss came to New England.  Oh, and Whitlock also manages to work a Jeff George reference into the piece as well.  Does Whitlock get a royalty payment every time he mentions George's name?

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

Well,

When you are trying to type in between Krispy Kremes, I’m sure it affects your writing…icing gets all over the keys, all over your Jeff George blow up sex doll, and the sugar incensed delirium probably acts like alcohol to a diabetic. I’m sure that’s all it was…haha.

Truly

The bottom of the barrel for Whitlock. I was actually embarrassed reading it. Moss is good, but I just can’t see him as one of the greatest players ever. The greatest players ever didn’t take plays off. The greatest players ever had intense team-oriented attitudes. According to Whitlock, I would be a pro bowl QB if I had Moss to throw to.

There is a difference in writing to provoke people, and just plain silliness. He has now devolved into silliness.

What Whitlock left out

In 2007, when NE traded for Moss, they also aquired Welker and Donte Stallworth. How much better did that make Randy Moss?
When he got drafted by Minnesota, they already had Chris Carter. How much better did that make Randy Moss?
When he went to Oakland they had nobody else…and it took him two years to get 1500 yards and a bad attitude. The second year WITHOUT Collins throwing to him, he only got 553 yards. Now tell me….who is exposing who as being better than they are?

I posted this in the other thread on the Cassel signing, but it belongs here as well. To say Moss is the best ever is to ignore the fact there were other players around him making him look that good. His second year in Oakland really tells the story as far as I’m concerned. He’s only as good as the other receivers and the QBs that throw to him.

Indeed

I do think Moss is one of the greatest receivers of all time, however he’s not going to shine if he doesn’t have a QB who can throw him the ball. In order for the QB to get the ball out, he has to have an O-line to keep him from getting slaughtered. An established running game makes for a good passing game. Having more than one weapon to throw too will make the play calling for the coaches easier. Basically it’s a TEAM effort. If only Moss had to be good to make a team good, well then, what happened in Oakland? Al Davis tried that and it failed.

The offseason is making me sleepy.

I disagree

except for the fact that “He’s only as good as the other receivers and the QB’s that throw to him.”

That goes for any receiver. Jerry Rice..had Joe Montana, Steve Young, Rich Gannon, Terrell Owens and Tim Brown around him at different points of his career.

Not to say Rice or Moss arent good. They are both great. Moss was the ONLY receiving threat in oakland with a Mediocre QB (Collins was much worse for Oak. than he has been for Ten.) When you are the only receiving threat…teams double and triple team you. If you are being DT and TT, the only way you can put up remotely decent numbers is if you have a good QB who can drill the ball through the cracks to you. Moss didn’t have that in oakland.

Ooops

I disagree because of the fact**

by Petey14 on Jul 15, 2009 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think you quite got my point about Moss in Oakland

His first year, WITH Kerry Collins he had 60 rec for 1005 yards and 8 TDs while Jerry Porter was the only other WR with significant catches and he had 76. Collins threw for 3759 yds 20 TD and 12 INT w/ 53.5% completions. Porter only had a little over 4000 yards in 8 years, so that was his best year. Yes, Moss probably had a lot to do with that, but he had just as good a year the year before, so it wasn’t all Moss. And Collins numbers are not really too bad either. Collins also had a very similar year the year before, so it really doesn’t look like Moss had much affect in terms of raising the level of his teammates. If it was all because Moss was taking double and triple teams, then Porter and Collins stats would suck the year before and have improved drastically with Moss. But they didn’t.

The second year in Oakland, they had a pathetic offense. But you had Aaron Brooks for QB who averaged 79.7 passer rating in New Orleans. Now explain how if Moss is one of the top players ever to play the game he only caught 42 passes for 553 yards and 3 touchdowns. According to Whitlock he should have elevated the QB play so they were riding the Moss gravy train like all these other mediocre QBs.

Yes, all good receivers must have good people around them. My problem with Whitlock’s article is that most of these QBs were good without Moss. Especially to claim Moss made Brady into a good QB is ludicrous.

I saw this very early this morning

I don’t even fanshot his tripe any more and very rarely, if ever comment on them. Normally I actually hope that no one here ever posts his garbage and cringed at knowing it would show up here this morning.

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

Can we put a moratorium on Whitlock please

I no longer live in KC, I miss it dearly, what I don’t miss is that guy. Never need to hear from him again.

I stopped reading Whitlock a long time ago

didn’t think he could get worse but he did. He doesn’t need any more exposer than he already has.

Herm is gone things are better with that one move!!

Whitlock

He writes good articles…when they arent about sports.

He wrote an article about a local musician, Krizz Kaliko, which was a very good read. I couldnt believe it when I saw Whitlocks name on it.

Whitlock says outrageous things when it comes to sports because his fat, krispy kreme donut eatin ass wasnt good enough to make it to the NFL.

How does this happen?

Whitlock implied that Jeff George wasn’t a great QB… and the universe didn’t implo9de?

Close, but no cigar. His worst ever was the Serena Williams B.S on Fox Sports last week. He shouldn’t have a fucking job after that load of crap. I’d give you the link but I’d rather not add to the hit counter so here’s an excerpt in case you missed it:

Instead, Serena is arguably pushing 175 pounds, content playing hard only in the major tournaments, happy to be photographed on dates with pro athletes and proud to serve as a role model for women with oversized back packs.

BBWs — Big Booty Women — do not write me angry e-mails. I’m only knocking Serena’s back pack because it’s preventing her from reaching her full potential as an athletic icon. I am not fundamentally opposed to junk in the trunk, although my preference is a stuffed onion over an oozing pumpkin.

(A stuffed onion is a booty so round and tight that it brings tears to your eyes).

No, I did not make that up. The rest of it is just as bad.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. This makes me glad I do not read this guy’s column.

It's always fun when Whitlock ventures out of his comfort zone (football and some basketball).

I remember seeing Mike Lupica lecture Whitlock on The Sports Reporters when Whitlock said home field advantage didn’t exist in baseball. Lupica had to explain to him that ballparks all have different dimensions and Whitlock seemed to not be aware of that.

And what does Whitlock see when he looks in a mirror?

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Maybe in a high school newspaper or on a half-ass blog. But completely inappropriate for a “professional” writer on a major sports network.

i understand he was wrong on how

he said it but i have to agree that if she were in shape more often she would have won way more championships thats the meat of his column all the other stuff was trash talk and filler to get ppl all pissed about the column so it would get more pub he is all about offending ppl into reading his column and it works
